Seeking Feedback: Mature Makeup!
Hey Everyone!
What's up? I recorded like 3 videos today! whew! I've gotten a few messages/emails from those seeking some makeup ideas for those in the 40+ age range. I think this is a great idea, and I'm considering doing a "Mature Makeup" mini-series if there's enough interest.
Much like "Teen Tutorials"-- it would be the type of thing anyone could apply to their own routine if they wanted to... I think it would be a good resource for those seeking work/interview/professional makeup ideas. It would be a series of looks that might be more friendly to aging skin and less "wild" eye looks... (matte makeup, contouring techniques, subtle but effective eye makeup). As I talk to my mom, I've been learning more about the unique issues facing aging skin, and my Bobbi Brown book would serve as a great resource as well.
So my question to you is-- do you think this is a good idea? Would you watch these videos? Are you in an age bracket where you're looking for something conservative yet beautiful? Also- any suggestions for what you'd like to see, or tips you think I should incorporate? I know this is kind of a lot of questions but I would really appreciate your feedback! Leave a comment, or email beautybroadcast@hotmail.com
Have a great weekend everyone!!
♥Emily

Im 24 so no im not in the age brackett for "mature makeup". would i watch it Yes. i watch all your videos. i found the teen ones to be very wearable for any age so i assume the "mature" one would be the same. i think its great to have lots or color and fun makeup but its also nice to have professional makeup too. i would defently like to see some matte colors used, contouring, covering of spots, maybe makeup thats good for you skin.

I love using really fun eye looks, but I've really noticed lately the need to know how to do more professional looks. Particularly today, I taught a class and I spent yesterday figuring out how I was going to do my makeup to look a little more professional, so people will take me seriously. I look quite a bit younger than I am. Not that I'm trying to look older, per se, but I feel that the more colorful looks tend to show a more youthful "attitude," I suppose. (If you disagree, I would very much like to see professional looks with some color. I heart color!) People will take you seriously if you look more professional. I think you're description of "conservative yet beautiful" is definitely what I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could do a video directed towards college senior and others stepping into the working world on how to present themselves properly.
Okay, sorry this is such a long comment!
yes, that would be a great idea! :)
ReplyDeletei'm now at an age (20) where my mom entrusts me to do her make-up for her and sometimes, i need a helping hand (like your videos :p) to do her make-up that's right for her age (she's in her early 50s). i'm used to putting color and shimmer on myself or on other people's faces (they're at my age bracket too) so doing videos for that age bracket would be of great help and would be greatly appreciated by many (especially your viewers!).. :)
i think this is a great idea!! even though i am not over 40 i still would watch it.. i might learn something from it and be able to share that with my mom and other family members... there might even be a sophisticated look that i might like to try out as well... you never know! somethings that you should talk about are contouring (for sure), better foundation choices for people with more fine lines and wrinkles (probably liquid rather than powder), and primers to cover up some of those imperfections! for some reason when you said mature i automatically thought of plum eyeshadows... i know they arent only for mature women to use (i use plum eyeshadows too) but i think it would be a good idea to use plum colors... to me plums are very sophisticated and mature yet young at the same time... its not as boring as brown because WE ALL can do brown.. plum is just a nice variation
ReplyDeleteYes!!! I follow your blog and youtube and would like to have someone with good knowledge of makeup give us over 40 some tips and demonstrations. Makeup and mature skin is an area that is overlooked sometimes. We wear makeup too:) Thank you, Emily
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be a great idea to take a look at a more conservative/mature skin makeup style. Your videos are wonderful, but I think you wear a bit more makeup because you are on camera. You have a need to make your makeup really stand out. I work in a school district and really need a more subtle look.
ReplyDeleteI'm over 50, and even though I have taken great care of my skin, there is no stopping the loss of firm skin around the eye area.
I would love to see you do a video applying makeup for a look that your mom would use. I love your blog and videos.
Emily,
ReplyDeleteYes, I would love it if you would give some tips/suggestions for "mature" make up. I am now 40. I'm not yet looking my age though, but I just sometimes wonder if my make up is "age appropriate". I LOVE shimmer and color and I also like natural/neutral looks, but sometimes think that maybe I look like an "old lady" still trying to be a "teenager". I don't know. But I would love to get some outside perspectives on make up that is appropriate for someone 40+.
Thanks,
Mina
I think it's a great idea and you should go for it. I'm sure you have many viewers who would watch it, no matter their age, I know I will. I'm 34 and I even watched all your teen tutorials, I think it doesn't matter how old people are, you can learn from all videos. I even took some tips from your teen videos and tried them out and at 34 I'm sooo not a teen anymore, lol.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see some videos for "office appropriate" looks. I'm in my late 20s and want my coworkers and managers to take me seriously.
ReplyDeleteMature skin techniques/products also work for dry skin. :) If I have dry skin, I always buy a foundation for mature skin and it works. My mom is 61 and she loves the Maybelline Age Rewind products. I use their Face Perfector all the time. The concealer end is like MAC Select cover up.
ReplyDeleteYes, please! I enjoy your videos and blog, but at age 50, I'd like to see some more subtle, mature "looks". Since I no longer work in an office, I don't really need to look "made up", I just need some subtle looks for daily wear.
ReplyDeleteYes for the mature makeup!!! I'm 21, but I work in an office, shimmery blue e/s wouldn't fly. But so many yt-bers are either glitter e/s or all matte. Personally I think pearl looks the best on all ages, just not pearl lash to brow! =)
ReplyDeleteYes to mature makeup! I've asked a couple of questions in the past about types of eye shadows for "over 40" eyes. I am 44 (have been told i look much younger) and watch your videos all the time for application tips, product recommendations, etc. and I love them...thank you sooo much! One of my biggest challenges is knowing which eye shadows to use. Shimmer, no shimmer, matt only, colors, etc. I'm just not always certain what to use. I've looked on You tube and haven't found over 40 'help'. :-) I would also welcome contouring, covering up areas, knowing what to use under the eyes for concealing with the wrinkles under them. I know you have so much going on with all the different types of videos you do, so if you happen to have the time for this, it would be welcomed by me 100% AND probably those like me that have looked for over 40 'looks' and don't find them. Thanks so much for all you do! You're greatly appreciated! Take good care!

ReplyDeleteEmily I like that idea alot!!
ReplyDeleteI watch your vids frequently& I think they are super.Keep it up!!L-
I would welcome any and all information for the mature women! I turned 50 at my last birthday and decided to make more of an effort to wear makeup - now I need to know how to deal with the age related changes in my skin. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would love to watch this series, I'm 43 and find it hard to get the right look with eyeshadow especially the whole crease outer corner thing. I tried to do cat eyes but it didn't work at all. I don't have many wrinkles or crowfeet yet, thank's to my mums genes. Can't wait for this series.
ReplyDeleteYeah that would be a great idea. There are all kinds of people on Youtube so I'm sure it would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteCiao Emily,
ReplyDeleteYES... that would be a great idea to do some mature makeup looks.
I watch your videos all the time and would really look forward to watching your mature make up looks, because I am 42, shhhhh... people only think I am 39..forever...haha, something like Jack Benny, ha ha ha, so that is what I tell them....hahah.
Keep up the great videos... I love watching them and would never miss one.
Have a beautiful day.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to see those videos. Though I'm young, I need more looks that are work and interview appropriate. I tend to stick with one or two eye looks for those situations and would love to have more variety.

ReplyDeleteI am 35 and love this idea. While it's really fun to see the dramatic/colorful/sparkly/night out tutorials, they (unfortunately) don't have much practical application in my own personal life. Hmmm ... maybe I just need to get out more ... We single working moms need looks that are fast and professional. So I love the concept behind this series. The only thing I would say is that I don't personally like the word "mature" - it sounds old! How about neutral, natural, professional, classic, etc.?
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing what you do!
Found your blog by accident. I am shopping for make up right now online and have so many questions. I am definately over 50 (59)...so would watch your videos with much interest. I want youthful glowing looking skin without looking "made-up" or artificial. Its getting difficult to figure out what to use. I will be following and watching!
ReplyDeletethats really nice blog ....
ReplyDeleteI think it's a wonderful idea and I could really use the tips!
ReplyDeleteI think you'll also find that mature faces can share some problems with some people's younger skins: drier skin, sunspots, fine lines, wrinkles, hooded upper eye(makes it challenging to figure out where to put your shadow), perhaps slackness at the jawline.
ReplyDeleteI really like this website, Thanks for sharing this information. Keep posting more.
