Share Your Feedback: Have you tried this stuff?

Hello!
Generally I'm on here recommending products and telling you what I think you need to try. Now, I thought I'd pose my own questions. There are a number of products that I've considered buying, and even if they're cheap- sometimes you just don't feel like taking a total risk. So I thought I'd just toss out a list of items that have at least piqued my interest- and if you could let me know if you've tried them and if so, what you thought- that would be awesome! Even if you haven't tried it and just have an opinion or prediction- I'd like to hear that too! It will probably help others as well! I definitely trust my blogger friends! And perhaps if there's a lot of debate about certain products- I'll go ahead and try it so I can post a review! :D Thanks in advance!

Cover Girl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation
This creamy foundation is swirled with some sort of Olay anti-aging formula... I like Olay and I like Cover Girl... only at times I've been disappointed by their foundations. Thoughts?

Cover Girl & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush
I think this interests me even more than the foundation. Anti-aging blush? This is a new concept! Have you tried it?

Revlon Colorstay Mineral Finishing Powder (comes in several shades of bronze & pink)
I've been told by numerous people to try this- but I have not been a fan of the Revlon Colorstay Mineral foundation- OR the mineral shadow trios. This stuff seems to be the same texture as those shadows so that's why I'm skeptical. I've also heard these are/might be similar to MAC's Mineralize Skin Finish? Is this true?

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
This comes in a gorgeous array of shades, and I've heard good things about it. I've heard great reviews overall- many of them commenting on staying power... but is it worth $16 for ONE PENCIL?! tell me!

Maybelline Pulse Perfection by Define-A-Lash Vibrating Mascara
Chances are you've seen this wand displayed at your local drugstore. Just as it sounds, there's button on the wand and it will actually vibrate. With any mascara-- it's often recommended that you wiggle your mascara wand back & forth as you apply the product so you'll better separate and coat the lashes. I don't know about you- but I've been fully capable of wiggling my wand back & forth "manually" for years so I'm not sure that I need a motorized device to do it for me... I guess this product screams "gimmick" to me- but I'm still curious. What do you think?

♥ Emily's Journal ♥
Hellllloooooo! Yay for Thursday! I did one of THE most touching stories ever today. It airs tomorrow in our weekly "Unsung Hero" segment. WSIL viewers must watch at 6 or 10! (it will be on at the end of both newscasts). It features a group of teens that are part of an organization called World Changers- they're from all over the U.S., and they travel around helping people in need rebuild their homes or even construct homes in the first place. They are truly amazing and inspirational- and we also talked to one man who was having his entire roof repaired by these kids- it made me want to cry. Once the story goes online I'll post a link so those of you who're out of the viewing area can check it out!
I worked out again today- woohoo! And the shoulder is feeling much better. I had a salad & a snack wrap from McDonalds for dinner... those are GOOD! :D Hope you have a wondeful Friday tomorrow!

  1. My mom uses the Olay foundation. She says she really likes it. :)

  2. I've heard really mixed reviews on the foundation, you get very little product, like .33oz instead of the normal 1 oz. The packaging is also extremely hard to open.

Nothing on the new blush yet.

The Urban Decay liners SUCK HARDCORE. I tried one and it smudged everywhere, it ended up on my upper lid within a few hours of wearing it. I think the Sally Hansen Carmindy ones are much better. Styli-Style are also a better choice as well.

The mascara has mixed reviews as well. I would wait until a BOGO Free deal comes up before purchasing it.

  3. Hi Emily - I've not used the Urban Decay pencils but I see them in quite a few makeup vids. I've tested them at Ulta and the formula is creamy and smooth and would be delicate on the eyes. Also, the colors are amazing.

I have 3 Make Up Forever pencils which are a dollar more than the Urban Decay brand. The formula is similar to Urban Decay's pencils, and the array of colors is pretty nice. They are pretty and long-wearing as well. I carry them with me in my makeup bag. Great stuff. Hope this helps!

  4. Oh, and the Revlon powders aren't that great either. They are mostly shimmer when applied to the face. Nothing like the Mineralized Skinfinishes. They are also extremely over priced as well.

  5. The Urban Decay liners are totally worth it! They go on so smoothly and easily. No tugging at all and the colors are so vivid. On the UD site you can get sets with 5 small sized ones.

The only other thing I tried was the Revlon powder, I have the pink one and never use it. It's pretty, but not excetional.

  6. I bought the pulse perfection mascara and I actually really liked it!! The vibrations really help to keep your lashes seperated while added volume and length!! I actually posted a video where I talked about it for a second (my channel is sculptedxangels and it's the one called "MAC/Coastal Scents Haul!"). The vibrations are weird and kinda make your eyes tickle, but I really like what it does for my lashes :)

  7. you guys are amazing- loving your comments

  8. I own the black Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On pencil and I LOVE IT! It's great to work on your waterline because it lasts a very long time. The pencil sets after 30 seconds. So the first 30 seconds, you can smudge it to get a great smokey look.

As for the Maybelline mascara, I hear the mascara vibrates so that there is no clumping. It's not crazy vibrations but enough so that there is no clumping. It gives the look of natural lashes and is a little volumizing.

    I hope this helps.

  9. I have the purple Urban Decay pencil (Lust). I like the color and the way it goes on, but I wish it were a self-advancing pencil instead of the kind you have to sharpen.

  10. I LOVE the UD pencils as well. They don't budge and go on so easily. Plus I love all the color choices! They are similar to the Bourjois waterproof contour clubbing pencils (which I also love) that are only $12.50. You should check those out too!! They are at ULTA. :-) I have never tried any of the other products but have been curious about the CG/Olay blush as well!!

  11. Uh no to the UD pencils! I don't care how good they are, $16 for ONE pencil is ridiculous! I tried to Revlon finishing powder in Suntan Matte and it is definitely comparable to the MAC MSF Natural in Dark. Like the other commenter said, it does have more shimmer than the MSF but not like a disco ball or anything. They are overpriced but you know CVS and Walgreens always has BOGO and that's how I got mine.

I don't know about the vibrating mascara. It is based on the Define A Lash line (same wand, same formula)..it just vibrates. Like you said, I can wiggle my own regular define a lash and come up with the same results! ;-)

  12. The UD eye pencils are pretty darn fantastic. Here's my recommendation: buy the 24/7 Duo seen here
    http://www.urbandecay.com/categories/247Duo.cfm

It was how I first introduced myself to the pencils. It's two full sized pencils in Zero and Bourbon (brown and black, respectively,) priced at $24. There really isn't any better deal than two "prestige" eyeliners for only $12 each. I was able to then see how I liked them before I commit to other colors.

  13. I love the urban decay pencils! They are so nice and creamy and they stay on my eyes all day. I think they are worth it

And I haven't bought the vibrating mascara but when I tried the wand thing at the store it didn't really actually vibrate.

  14. I haven't heard fantastic reviews of any of these products...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Revlon Colorstay liner > UD 24/7! The UD glides on a little better, but honestly (this is gonna sound weird!) if you put your Revlon under your arm for a little less than a minute it will glide on just as well as UD!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I use the UD pencil liner almost every day. It has great staying power on the lower lash line, especially if I put a little primer down first. I'm a little disappointed with the waterline application, but it's possible that my eyes are just difficult; I've always had a tough time keeping my liner there.

  17. I wanted to try the foundation and some reviews on it. None of the reviews were good. Everyone said that the shades were lighter when they put it on than what it looked liked in the package. The revlon powder looks interesting but I haven't heard anything about it. It would be cool if it was like MAC.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The Revlon Mineral Finish - I got in Sunkiss or something but didn't work for me! Barely got any color once on the brush. But when I swatch it w/ my finger it was beautiful... so, I don't know who's fault this was: mine or the product. But I would say buy this w/ LOTS OF RESEARCH!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have tried the Revlon highlighter in the white/pink version, I have swatches on my blog, I think I would like it better if the rest of my face was more matte and I don't have very big pores, but when my face gets shiny, it doesn't look right with this.

I think a lot of people would like it though.

  20. The reviews on makeupalley.com are not that great for the pulsating mascara. The consensus seems that it is very gimmicky, however the ones that do like it, say that the main problem is with the button. You have to hold it down while applying which is kind of awkward.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I only tried the UD liners yet. Although they are VERY good quality: color pay-off,soft texture and long-lasting I still think $16 is alot for 1 pencil, that is why I had a look around for something similar.
I came across 'GOSH' cosmetics (which is also available in US) and they became my HG!!! They have a big color-range, and everything else the UD has for half the UD price...

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Urban Decay pencils are brilliant. I'd recommend getting the two sets of minis rather than just one full size pencil that way you get all the nice bright colours to try :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Covergirl foundation is really difficult to blend out, at least for me. & I like the 24/7 liners are really good, but a little pricy for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love the Urban Decay Liner, it is very soft, which can be a mixed blessing. I have a few colors, but if you try it, get it in "Rockstar." It's like a dark purple with a slight shimmer. It kind of reminds me of a nail polish you reviewed a while bacl. As long as you want to smudge it out a bit, or put some powder over it, it's awesome. I've rebought the Rockstar color twice already!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey Emily! I think pinkiecharm has a review on the Olay foundation. You should check it out. It will help!

    ReplyDelete
  26. the urban decay liners rock. It's so creamy and smooth. They have the travel sized collection of 5 liners for $29. Great way to experiment with the colors.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I like the UD 24/7 eyeliner, it's the perfect eyeliner for the water line, it does not smudge at all!!
but for the $16, I get the color baked, because it is more of a unique color, and it looks gorgeous to highlight the tear duct. I know you like to highlight your brow bone with a golden color sometimes, so I thought you may like the color baked also.

  30. Hi Emily!
I checked your page, and I see that you're subscribed to pinkiecharm. In case you missed her videos, she reviewed some of these! I'll link them for you, since I haven't tried any of these products, but I still want to be of some help! :)

I hope this helps, Emily! I think you and her are the best reviewers out there, and I'm not just saying that. I'm subscribed to over 90 people, and I've watch other reviews that aren't from my subscriptions. There's so many people out there that think they know what they're talking about, but they really don't. Both of you have tried sooo many products, both high-end and drugstore, and that's why I trust your opinions. And since you've never tried these products, I'm redirecting you to her! =)

I hope this helps you Emily!
    Have a nice day!

  33. The Covergirl product shown is good - use a stippling brush - AND choose one that is darker than one you would normally choose. That seems to be the consensus; I purchased the 215 and would do the 220 if I were purchasing again. It covers red on the complexion very well.
Urban Decay pencils are very good for staying power - but I find the Styli Style pencils 'line and seal' to be just as good and they are normally about $4.99 at CVS. They have a variety of colors - not as many as UD though. You can find them on eBay too etc...
The Revlon bronsers are mostly shimmer - granted they are attractive in the packaging - but not like a Mac Skinfinish at all.
Don't forget to use Bigcrumbs.com... you will thank me later!

  34. First of all, I love your little journal entries at the end of your posts! I'm a Broadcast Communications major, so your life is interests me!

I love the Covergirl TruBlend foundations! And I also use Oil of Olay lotion everyday, so that sounds like a great combo to me! If I try them, I'll let you know!

I also thought about the Urban Decay liners... but I didn't think it was worth it. I LOOOVE the MAC Eye Kohls, so I guess I'd rather get those. I've never had such an amazing eyeliner before! They're only $14.50 a pencil.

I think pinkiecharm did a review of the pulse mascara and said it's not worth it. lol I'll stick to "manually" as well. :P

  35. I love the UD 24/7 liners!! They are the best and sooo worth it..right now on urbandecay.com they have a set of 5 penicles for 13.99, which is an awsome deal!! you should definalty check it out if u want to try out the pencils.
    HTH!!

  36. The only product I have tried are the UD pencils. NOT worth the money. There are better pencils out there for less money. It would sweat off if it's hot and make me look like I have raccoon eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Revlon Mineral Finishing powder doesn't really do anything for my foundation except add shimmer ... The texture isn't anything to be crazy about either, it's quite expensive too. I'd rather just spend the money on MSFs instead of buying a bad dupe. I was so disappointed b/c I really like Revlon & wanted to like that product :(
If you can get it on a BOGOF I guess it could be worth a try

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love your site and your youtube channel! I have a bunch of the Urban Decay pencils, and recently I tried a MAC powerpoint. I have to say, the powerpoint performed a lot better. The Urban Decay is great for finding vibrant beautiful colors with dimension but the black eyeliner on me does smudge by the end of the day.

I would say it is worth for any color besides the black eyeliner.

  39. Like t.marie, I got the Suntan Matte Revlon powder and the Sunkissed color. I got them from CVS on a BOGO deal & I LOVE them both. I'm a former makeup artist so I love and appreciate high-end makeup but I'm a product junkie who can't afford to be loyal to one (esp. pricey) brand. MAC's MSF is cool but too rich for my recession-affected blood. LOL These seem to work best with a good kabuki brush in order to get enough color but I also use a blush brush. Olay doesn't make the foundation in my shade so I don't know how they work. I'm thinking about trying the mascara on the next major BOGO with a coupon ( I want it to be less than $8). I can't do the Lancome Oscillating mascara so this appeals to me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The mascara is a rip-off of the new Lancome Oscillation (sp?) mascara. I personally haven't used either, but the make-up girls @ Dillard's were doing a demonstration and you could really tell a big difference between the eye with the regular mascara and the vibrating mascara.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Urban Decay has a set of their liners I think you get 5 mini (half sized) liners for the price of 2 regular sized ones you can find them at urbandecay.com there are 2 different sets a fun bright set and a more neutral/natural set both have black my personal fav it's the best for the waterline because it is so creamy I think these do have great staying power and as far as how they compare to MUFE's aqua eyes I can't really say because I'm allergic to something in MUFE plus UD is cruelty free

  42. I have one of the foundations that my Mom gave me because she didn't like it. I tried it, it's really hard to blend, at least for me. The color is also wrong for me, but I don't think I'd go try to find it in the right color.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I use the foundation even though im only 14 and i love it...it goes on smoothly, looks flawless and hey it will help with wrinkles. Im preparing early!

    ReplyDelete
  44. i worked with a girl who used the foundation. i followed her around till i got up the nerve to ask her what she used on her skin. it positively glowed. But when I bought it I found the color selection quite narrow for me and made a bad choice.

  46. I own the Olay/Covergirl Sculpting blush. in Plush Peach, it's VERY creamy, perhaps maybe a little too creamy and moist (the white part is like a weird cream moisturizing element) I like it, it blends nicely, just a little slippery. Not my favorite but why the heck not.
