Hey Everyone!

Well it looks like Revlon Colorstay has hit another home-run in terms of their products! I love the foundation, powder, liquid liner, pencil liner, eyeshadow.... and now this great lip gloss! It's called Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze and it's a fairly new product. They have a really nice selection of shades (many more that I'd like to pick up) and the stuff is supposed to last 8 hours!! Well... I'm not so sure about 8 hours, but for just being a lip gloss- it manages to stay on quite a long time, and without having an annoying texture! It's odd- but even though some of that glossy shine will wear off- some color will remain, so it's a pretty revolutionary lip gloss in my opinion.

The fact that I love the texture and staying power so much makes me willing to try just about any shade they offer. As you can see- I've sort of sampled the range- a nude shade, a pink, and a plum. Love them all. Seriously! Lasting shimmer is now my go-to nude gloss when I've got a deep smokey eye, and Eternal Blossom (the light pink) reminds me of NARS Turkish Delight gloss (not that I own it, I've just seen people wearing it :) And the plum-- a great shade for people to experiment with if you want a deeper lip color, but aren't comfortable with reds. I think plums look nice on lots of skin tones. OH- just saw a comment on my haul video where these were mentioned- someone said it's a good idea to put a moisturizing lip balm underneath in case you find these drying (with their long-wearing nature). Personally they don't dry my out, but a lip balm underneath would work fine with these and I don't think it would compromise their staying power.

Anyway, this is just my little heads up that this is a product you really need to try. They run about eight bucks apiece on average- but if your local drugstore is have a Buy one Get one sale-- get two! I really think you'll like them! :D Thanks for stopping by everyone, and have a great weekend!

MVP Nail Care Products

Hope your weekend is going well. Recently I posted a video on YouTube sharing my collection of nail care products. I just wanted a highlight a couple of items that I use every time I do my nails... They're inexpensive and they've improved the overall quality of my nails tremendously since I've started using them.

Vaseline Healthy Hand & Nail Lotion

-I use this lotion as the first step of my manicure (after removing old nail polish). It seems nail polish remover can dry your hands & fingers further- and when the weather makes the air extremely dry... you're dealing with a double whammy where dry skin is concerned. That's why I like to use this lotion- it just a great moisturizer for my hands, but is also non-greasy. You could really use it anytime- not just when you do your nails. Also- it's available in a smaller tube, which is what I have.

- According to Vaseline's website: "In 2 weeks - nails are 10x stronger"... How cool is that? It's really hard for me to guage if my nails are exactly ten times stronger- but I have definitely seen an improvement. Even if you don't paint your nails non-stop-- we can all use stronger nails!

E.L.F. Nourishing Cuticle Pen

-Once again, this is a product I use every time I do my nails, but it's definitely a product you could use anytime. I like to put on the above-mentioned lotion, file or clip my nails, and then use this cuticle pen with a neat marker-like tip to push back my cuticles and moisturize them.

-It's supposed to relieve dry nails and flakey cuticles with avacado & almond oils. It's enriched with viatmins- and it just an all around good thing to apply for the health & quality of your cuticles. It really stinks when you've got great looking nails- but the cuticles look dry and uncared for. I haven't had that problem since I've started using this, in conjunction with the hand & nail lotion. It does contain oils, but it's not overly greasy... that marker tip really controls the flow of the product on your cuticles- and only a litte comes out at a time

I thought you'd all get a kick out of this.... This is my niece Ashley! She'll turn 3 years old in April and my brother posted these adorable pictures of her on his Facebook page. My mom told me she has some pretend makeup she likes to play with- and as you can see by the lineup of Lip Smackers on the counter- she's starting to build her real collection! LOL :) It's funny how I just posted that blog about teen makeup... perhaps I should gear something toward 3 year olds? Just kidding!! I just think these pictures prove that makeup can be fun at any age- and it looks like little Ashley is a girl after my own heart!

Upcoming Series: Teen Tutorials

Hi everyone! I've been at the dentist this afternoon and the right side of my face is quite numb. So I'm going to be blogging instead of shooting a video today- I still sound a little funny when I talk! :) Guess what? Tomorrow's Friday! woohoo!

Lately I've been getting a lot of requests for teen makeup- lots of school looks, looks for dances/formals, cheerleading (i was one, hehe), dates, etc. I think it's a really good idea and I'm going to be shooting some "Teen Tutorials" soon for my YouTube channel. I would like everyone know that just becuase they're geared toward teens- I hope even those of you in the working world (like me) will take note and see that they'll truly be wearable looks for everyone. Key word: WEARABLE. I'll continue to incorporate colorful looks into other videos- but if it's in this series it will be stuff that would generally be seen as "school appropriate." Also- since many teens are just getting started with makeup- I won't just show you eyes- I'll demonstrate how to do the whole face too :D who's excited!? I am.

Since I'll be shooting these videos very soon- I'm browsing around for some ideas. I'd also like any ideas you guys have. Any particular things you'd like demonstrated? Any certain products you'd like me to use? Any products you'd really like left OUT of Teen Tutorials? Please provide your input- these videos are for you!

Cheap & Awesome Body Spray!

Hi guys! Question: Have you ever put on some body spray or perfume and then someone walks by you and says, "what's that great smell?" That's what Tyler said to me a couple of days ago when I sprayed on some of this Clean Lavender Vanilla Fantasy Body Spray by Body Fantasies.

As you can see, this is a very small size- just one fluid ounce. I found it in the section of Wal-Mart where they sell small-sized travel items. I was just browsing through and saw several scents in this brand marked for only around a dollar apiece! So I thought, what the heck, I can always use an extra body spray in my travel bag- and to top it off- I took a quick whiff of this scent and knew I had to have it.

It's a really interesting scent because not only do you get the smell of lavender- but I can also definitely notice the vanilla notes- and I love vanilla. It definitely smells clean and fresh as the name implies- and for only a dollar- it's perfect for the purse, travel bag, in the bathroom, you name it. It's just so cute! I'm sure they sell a larger size too for those who become addicted to this scent :)

*Maybelline Full & Soft Mascara
This was in my collection for quite awhile and then I ran out. Reading this article sort of makes me want to pick it up again because it truly is a GREAT drugstore mascara!

*Jane LipKick lipstick
I have a shade of this in Superstar- it's a red shade with a bit of a pink tone. It is VERY richly pigmented and it sounds like other shades are as well.

*St. Ives Whipped Silk Intense Body Moisturizer
This is another product I had quite awhile ago and I remember really liking the scent and the texture. Next time I'm in need of some new lotion- this might be a good one to re-buy!

*Pantene Classic Touchable Hairspray Flexible Hold, Non-aerosol
This isn't a bad hairspray. Once again- something I used to use but don't currently own. Is that a bad sign? Perhaps the product isn't all that great if I didn't run out to buy more. Actually I think my mom uses this or something similar from Pantene and likes it. I'm sort of indifferent about it, but I don't hate it, so I put it in this category :)

*Revlon Colorstay Makeup with Softflex
Currently own and love this. It's by far one of my top liquid foundations. I'm tending to use my Rimmel Lasting finish more, simply since the particular shade I have really matches my skin tone well- but I also LOVE this foundation. I'd recommend it for sure.

*Dove Sensitive Skin Unscented Bar
I went ahead and stuck this under this category- because I use the regular Dove bar- not this sensitive one but oh well. I use it in the mornings when I wake up- I feel like it's really gentle and since I'm not taking off any makeup, simply cleansing my skin BEFORE makeup application- it works really well. Makes my skin feel soft :)

*Wet & Wild Ultimate Expressions Eyeshadow Palette
This stuff is great quality. I recommended it to a friend I used to work with at the TV station... she got the shade in Sand Castle (neutral browns) and she loved it too. I've heard great things about this on other sites like Makeup Alley and Makeuptalk.com

These come in "naughty" and "nice" shades... I believe the shade I got was a naughty shade (don't remember the specific color, I threw it out) and it couldn't have been more mild and natural. I was looking for some color! It was supposed to be a pretty berry shade! whatev. Plus I hadn't had the gloss for long at all and the color started to separate... nasty.

NYX vs. MAC Eyeshadow

Hey everyone!

As you've probably read... I recently bought a couple of MAC eyeshadows. So far, I've been extremely impressed with the texture, staying power, and blendability. I just find that they're really easy to use and are also quite buildable... it's no wonder there is such a following for MAC shadows! So it's lead me to wonder- what makeup do I already have on hand that is most similar to these great MAC shadows? In my opinion, my NYX shadows are pretty darn close! (the trios run around 5 or 6 bucks at http://www.cherryculture.com/ )

Now keep in mind- I only have a couple of MAC shadows, but I still feel I'm fairly accurate in my comparison to NYX. The NYX shadows are soft, blendable, and highly pigmented. They cost much less and are available in singles or trios. There is a very wide range of shades, and lots of variation in terms of shimmery, matte, and glittery shades.

I just wanted to show you the NYX products I have, and also ask you- have you tried both MAC nad NYX? How would you compare them? Do you think they're somewhat similar or are there major differences? Here are my only singles: Burgundy Pearl & Cherry.

I love using burgundy pearl to fade out a darker crease shade- giving it a warm pinkish halo effect.

Trio in Golden, Rust, and Walnut Bronze.

This is one of my favorite trios! I love all of these shades and the Walnut Bronze color works great in lots of different looks. The whole thing is gorgeous for fall- or anytime!

Trio in Shimmer, Peach, & Copper

If you like really warm tones on your eyes, this set is for you. Shimmer is a great highlight shade, and Copper is actually a bit more reddish than it appears in this picture. Nice for a change of pace in the crease if you're used to deeper colors.

Trio in White Pearl, Silver, & Charcoal

This is another favorite of mine. The whole kit is nice for a soft grey smokey eye. Charcoal is my favorite for deepening the crease on any more colorful look. SO easy to blend.

Trio in Nude, Taupe, & Dark Brown

This was the first NYX trio I ever purchased- I had found it at my local Big Lots when they were doing a huge drugstore closeout sale. These colors are very comparable to those in the Coastal Scents Neutral palette. I must say that the "dark brown" color is much more like a medium brown- definitely not super dark at all. A great trio to have in your collection if you like really natural looks.

Trio in Lake Moss

Unlike many of the NYX trios- the individual shades in Lake Moss are not named. I don't know why this is, but that's just what the label says on the back. These are three GREAT crease shades. I actually did a video tutorial on how to use these awhile back. I'm convinced that the third shade has a slight, slight hint of green to it in person.

Trio in Frosted Lilac, Pacific, and Kiwi

This trio is like the little pastel cousins to Lake Moss up above. I just realized this, but you could do awesome looks pairing the light shades with their dark counterparts! The lilac would look nice with the dark purple, and the light blue and dark blue would be a great pair as well. And how cool would Kiwi look with that charcoal shade?! OMG- I sense a tutorial coming on.... :D

Long-Wearing Eye Look

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! If you haven't seen videos from me in a few days there are a couple of reasons why... I'm still learning about my camera and editing software, and also my parents were down for a couple of days- my dad had a workshop down here and he and mom were able to come watch one of my newscasts live in the studio! It was awesome.

I've had some questions about my makeup in the most recent videos- (2-9 haul, qotw valentine's makeup) thanks for all the kind comments! My face makeup has been the same as what I've had on in many of my recent videos, but I believe the new camera picks up on color better and makes my face look more like what it truly looks like- i.e. the color shows up better. So for a quick refresher, here are the face products I've been using:

-Rimmel Lasting Finish or Stay Matte foundation (both are the EXACT same shade-Soft Beige so they look very similar)


-Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit in Natural + Corrector in Bisque


-Mary Kay Loose powder


-Milani Sunset Duos bronzer (shades vary- but I use the matte tan shade in the duos)


-Cover Girl Cheekers blush in Golden Pink (contour)


-Milani Minerals Blush in Mai Tai (apples of cheeks)

As for the eye makeup- I've been experimenting all week with the MAC stuff I recently bought (posted product pics in a recent blog post, there's also a haul video about it). I've discovered that the look I've been using is EXTREMELY long wearing. When you see me in those videos, that's me at the end of my day (I anchor morning news and get up far before the crack of dawn). I haven't touched up at all before doing these videos and I feel the eye makeup has been holding up GREAT. Here's how to get the look!




1. Apply Too Faced Shadow Insurance All Over lid (I've decided this is better than Mary Kay eye primer)
2. Smooth MAC Rubenesque Paint Pot all over lid (I think this is a big key to the long-wear aspect)
3. Apply MAC's Naked Lunch shadow all over lid
4. Apply MAC's Sketch (a brownish-plum) in crease, concentrating on outer "V"
5. Use Cover Girl's Golden Sunrise for a light wash of golden color under brow bone
6. Use MAC's Naked Lunch right under the highest part of your arch for extra highlight
7. Line top lashline with Femme Couture Mineral Effects liquid liner in Brown
8. Line halfway in on the bottom lashline with Revlon Colorstay pencil liner in Black-Brown
9. Line the rest of the lower lashline with Sketch shadow, using an angled liner brush
10. Curl lashes, apply one coat of L'oreal Lash Out mascara, then use Salon Perfect lashes (the ones that are to be applied only out the outer half of your lid- makes a nice cat eye look). Apply one more coat of Lash Out to blend real & falsies together.

*FYI... I shot a video on this, and then once I loaded it into my editing program, I accidentally deleted it. like I said before, I'm still learning! LOL. I'll likely try to shoot this again though, since I think it's a valuable tutorial for those looking for a nice long-wearing shadow look.

My New Camera!

Hey guys! In my last video I had a lot of questions about my new camera. Many of you noticed that the quality was much improved from my last camera, and I definitely agree. As you can see, it's quite small, which I like. There were many more larger and higher priced options at Best Buy, but I'm not trying to make Oscar winning films here, I'm doing YouTube videos... so I went with something better than what I had, but within my price range. I'm still learning about it, but I'll put some details below...

Camera: Panasonic SDR-S7 (SD Video Camera)

Cost: Around $200 at Best Buy

Comes with: A battery and charger, an audio/video cable, a USB cable and editing software

Records on: an SD card. (I used my own, the camera does not come with one). Then I just pop it in my computer and it loads it into the editing software (definitely still learning about that!)

Imrpovements over previous camera: My last camera was a little white Aiptek- about half the price of this one and worked well for me for a year and a half or so. It ran on rechargeable batteries and had a similar flip around LCD screen. This new one has much clearer audio and video, and lots of bells & whistles... you can adjust for low-light situations, there's something called "soft skin" mode, you can set the date & time... there's many things that I'm not even familiar with yet. Oh and lets not forget this can be used just like a regular digital camera as well.

As you can see in the picture below- you can easily play back video you recorded on the LCD screen... you can also flip that screen all the way around- and see everything you're doing as you record- that's really important when you're doing tutorials. Many of the controls are right there opposite the LCD screen. Even though I don't know tons about it, it's still pretty easy to use.

Another thing-- You can see the tripod the camera is sitting on. The camera screws onto this mini tripod which was one of the smaller options available at best buy. The legs extend out to 3 different lengths- it's great for sitting on a tabletop or counter. I no longer have the packaging but it says "mini-D" on the side. It was around 15 bucks at Best Buy and I love it.

St. Louis Trip + Haul!

I took a few pics from our trip to St. Louis! Tickets to a St. Louis Blues hockey game were part of Tyler's Christmas present- so we went, stayed the night in a hotel, and of course visited the Sephora, MAC, and Beauty First stores while we were in town! :D We had an awesome time!

After the game we partied at this awesome sports bar place in our hotel (which was just a block away from where the game was). Should've taken pics but kinda forgot. The next day we went shopping at a great mall in St. Louis...

This pic kinda sucks- but you get the idea... and if you want more info I posted a haul video on my YouTube channel- yep I got my new camera up and running! It does lots of cool stuff that I haven't even learned about yet! Anyway- As you can see I got some Too Faced Shadow Insurance from the Beauty First store (Sephora was sold out!) and since I got a lot of Sephora loot for Christmas, I spend a little $$$ at the MAC store on a couple of eyeshadows- Naked Lunch & Sketch, as well as a Paint Pot in Rubenesque. Also- prior to the trip I picked up some Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara and the CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain in 400. Look for upcoming reviews & tutorials!

Technical Difficulties...

Hi everyone!

Hope you all are having a great weekend. Mine was awesome, except for one thing- my video camera completely died and will not allow me to shoot videos! Therefore I acted quickly and picked up a new camera- one I believe will be better quality. I just got it and will not have the chance to post a new video tonight, however I will figure out how it works and post one tomorrow. I've been kind of on a roll lately with posting a new video nearly everyday, so I just wanted to explain why the streak was broken :( Also, I've been in St. Louis for most of the weekend (a little getaway for Tyler and I... it also involves new makeup! I will totally tell you all about it...) so I haven't been able to respond to many of the messages in my YouTube inbox. Expect me to get back on track with that soon.

You Ask! Blog Edition

Hey guys! How's it goin... things are good here but I'm just very tired! I keep getting into new projects (like blogs, videos and other makeup related stuff) and I've been getting to bed late! I need to work on that haha. anyway... you might have seen my You Ask! segment on my YouTube channel. That's where I address specific questions from viewers. I've definitely stocked up quite a few and I thought this might be a good outlet to answer more than one, especially if the answer isn't too complex. QUESTION:

What are some good body lotions for dry skin?

ANSWER:

Lately I've been using body moisturizers with sunless tanner. They moisturize and also leave your skin looking perked up in the dead of winter. My current fave is Dove Energy Glow since It's so moisturizing and actually gives me a nice tan. They have a couple of shade options for light or medium/dark skin. Let's see what else... I like the Victoria's Secret PINK! body lotion (and the body spray too). It's called Drenched in Pink and the scent is Fresh & Clean.

QUESTION:

What is a good nail polish top coat that can extend the wear of your nail polish?

ANSWER:

My absolute FAVORITE is Sally Hansen Mega Shine extended wear top coat. It's super shiny, dries faster than anything I've ever tried (and it dries SOLID quickly, not just tacky), and it also extends the wear of the nail polish I use. I noticed this polish was on sale at several drugstores recently and I was worried it might be discontinued. But I checked the website and it's not on their discontinued list, thank God!

QUESTION:

No matter what, when I do my foundation my skin always ends up looking oily. I usually use a liquid for the coverage. How can I cut back on the shine without a ton of powder?

ANSWER:

What a common question! Understanding your skin type is very important to making your makeup work... You need to look at your routine and ask yourself a few things...

1. Am I using too much moisturizer?

the face should not look like a shiny oil slick after you put it on.

2. Is my moisturizer formulation too thick?

Make sure what you're putting on your face is oil free. Go for the most lightweight moisturizer you can and make sure it absorbs before you start to apply makeup.

3. Am I using too much foundation?

try to keep the application sheer... It sounds strange, but actually putting on less makeup will give you a longer-wearing look. To get a sheer application, try using a sponge or a stippling brush.

4. Is my foundation formula making me oily?

Once again, check the formulation. Make sure it's oil-free. An inexpensive idea that works well for oily/combo skin is Rimmel's Stay Matte foundation. I love it!

5. Am I setting my foundation with an oil-free powder?

I recommend using a loose powder and a big fluffy brush to go over your whole face after applying foundation. Loose powder will keep the application more sheer than a pressed powder & puff. Don't skip this step- it's important! If you've followed all of the prior steps this will be the icing on the cake :)

6. What am I touching up with?

Carry some oil blotting sheets around with you. ELF has some cheap ones that are only $1. Touching up any shine with these will keep you from caking on more powder.

What are some good whitening products for teeth?

ANSWER:

In the past I have really enjoyed just the traditional Crest whitestrips. I thought they really gave me a noticeable difference and if you have any major discoloration on your teeth, I would suggest using something like that. However if you just want to brighten up your smile a bit- which is my goal- make sure you're using a whitening toothpaste, and of course, brushing with it 2x a day. Crest Vivid White is one of the best, and currently I'm using and enjoying Colgate Total Advanced Clean + Whitening. I have tried the brush-on whiteners (different brands) just because they're cheaper than whitestrips- but I don't think they work all that well, and they taste nasty :p

Review: ELF Mineral Blush in Rose

Are you looking for a blush that is affordable, natural, pigmented, and makes you look like just just went out for a morning jog minus the jog? I think I've found it. I really love ELF mineral blush in Rose. Here's why...

COLOR... To see this shade in action- check out the blog below about the romantic pink & purple FOTD. I used the blush very lightly, but it still came off with a nice amoung of natural color. It's so pigmented and is truly a "rose" shade. In person it actually seems a bit more colorful than the website picture above. It's amazing quality for the price. If you don't really like "barbie" pink blushes- you'll like this. It's a pink with the slightest mauve tone that makes it very wearable. Also- this is a matte blush- there isn't any shimmer and I think that contributes to its great pigmentation.

PRICE... This blush is only $5! And you get so much (3.5 grams). It's available at www.eyeslipsface.com and there are plenty of other shades to choose from as well.

USER-FRIENDLY... For being as colorful as it is, you might think a blush like this would be difficult to blend. It's actually really easy to use. I also like how buildable the color is. You can make it as bold or light as you want. The packaging is typical for mineral makeup with the sifter lid.

Hey everyone!

How's it going? I've been asked about doing a Valentine's Day look, and I do plan to do a video tutorial, but I also thought this soft pink & purple look was really pretty and would also be a nice Valentines option. (Not that it really matters, but this FOTD was from a couple of days ago. I thought I lost the pictures but somehow they were in some random folder on my computer).
