Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick!

Hey everyone! Hopefully you saw my latest haul video- it consisted of drugstore skin, hair, and makeup items! One of the things I mentioned are the Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks. They claim to provide pigmented color with a really light feel. In my opinion, they accomplish that task very effectively! The shades I've tried are not shimmery, glitter-packed lipsticks (although I do have some of those that I love!)

These are creamy lipsticks that provide great color, subtle shine, and they make my lips feel really smooth! They may not be the most moisturizing lipsticks ever- so if you have naturally dry lips, you may want to smooth on a balm underneath. Staying power is decent, but not outstanding. These are not marketed as a long-wearning lipstick-- but rather a product that gives outstanding color while not feeling heavy on the lips. I have to give it high marks for that! For those concerned with scent-- I can barely detect a scent with these. Plus- I happen to love all 5 shades I've purchased! How often does that happen within one brand? More on the shades in a minute... first- a look at the adorable packaging!

It's simple, but really stylish. I really enjoy the matte black tubes with diamond detailing on two sides. The best part, in my opinion, is the top. I like being able to easily see what color I've picked up rather than having to read miniscule writing on the label. Good job, Revlon!

As you can see, I've experimented with a range of neutral & pink tones. They're listed below- corresponding with the products show left to right in the pictures...
  • Soft Nude: A true nude lipstick that basically erases the color of your lips. I like having a lipstick like that in my collection. While it has a very subtle smooth shine, I find that it's much more wearable if I top it with a gloss. It just helps the lips stand out more.
  • Blush: I love this neutral with a hint of warm pinky/brown. I've gotten a lot of use out of this one at work when I'm anchoring the news. It's just gorgeous, would work with lots of skintones, and won't make you look washed out. I think this might be my favorite, though it's hard to pick just one!
  • Baby Pink: The name says it all. A classic light pink lipstick that's surprisingly true to the color in the tube. Sometimes I find that pastel pinks rarely come off on the lips like they appear in the stick. This is pigmented enough to really show up as pink.
  • Carnation: A slightly brighter pink with more of a berry tone. Don't be scared by it's slightly brighter appearance- I think it's definitely wearable, and one of those shades that makes your teeth look extra white!
  • Mauve: A wearable berry tone with a bit of a neutral quality. Some may find this a bit easier to pull off than the brighter pinks. Has a nice depth to it that will make the rest of your face look polished and pulled-together.
Swatches shown in the same order as lipsticks mentioned above.

ColorBurst lipsticks come in 20 shades. Be aware that some stores may not carry ALL the shades. For example my CVS had only about half the colors, but Walgreens and Wal-Mart had them all. You may not find yourself in the same situation where you live, but just a heads up. You can browse the full selection of shades at the link I posted earlier in the blog. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, and let me know what your favorite colors are! :D

Do you ever see your favorite celebrity in a magazine or on TV and think- how can I look like THAT? I'm making it my mission to research the products that makeup artists say they use on celebrities, or the items celebrities say they love for themselves. These are not just products that a person or publication *suggests* might make you look like a certain celebrity- they're actually items used on them to get certain looks. FOTD: Subtle Spring Lilac

Hey everyone! Hope you've all had a great weekend. Things have been a bit busy with me- dealing with our house hunt (found one we want!), Tyler got a new truck, work, plus I'm trying to get over this cold! I am starting to feel better though. But all of this hasn't allowed tons of time for tutorials! It's like whenever I'm getting ready, I'm in a rush! Don't worry- I will find time to fit in some more tutorials soon! But for now- a "Face of the Day"! Also- check out my latest Shopping List Ideas video!

This "Subtle Spring Lilac" look is really easy & natural. If you have products similar to the ones I mention here, feel free to use those to achieve a similar look- they don't have to be exactly the same. This look is definitely appropriate for daytime, and if you wanted to kick it up for night, just incorporate a darker plum or black shadow in the crease/outer V for some added drama. It could also be paired with a slightly darker lip! :)

  • Revlon PhotoReady Foundation in Natural Beige
  • Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer in Cream (Light 4-5)
  • Revlon PhotoReady Powder in Light/Medium
  • Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Light
  • CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Golden Pink
  • Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in Living Doll
  • Bourjois Paris Survolteel Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow- use this lilac shade as a base
  • Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow Quad in Wildflower- use lilac shade all over the lid, the taupe shade in the crease, and the light yellow shade as a brow-bone highlight
  • L'oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense liquid liner- slightly winged out on upper lashline
  • Avon Smooth Minerals eyeliner in Iris on the outer portion of the lower lashline- blended up to the liquid liner
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal eye pencil in Loveable Lilac- on the inner half of the lower lashline- set it with the lilac Revlon shadow
  • Rimmel The Max Volume Flash mascara in Extreme Black- apply to upper & lower lashes
  • Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Dreamy
  • Jordana Easyliner for Lips in Rock n' Rose to add definition to lips
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, and I hope you all have a great week! Don't forget, you're more than welcome to join the Beauty Broadcast Facebook Page and follow me on Twitter for the latest updates on new videos and additional beauty info! :)

Clinique *Gift with Purchase* Haul

Hello! It's been kind of a rough day on my end. Called in sick to work... because when I woke up today I could barely speak! My voice was very gravely & rough- not exactly ideal for anchoring a newscast. Things definitely went downhill from the day before in terms of how I sounded, but throughout the day, the pain has begun to die down in my throat. I've had a pretty bad headache today paired with classic "cold" symptoms- fever, runny nose, lots of sneezing. I don't sound great, but I think my voice will be good enough to anchor tomorrow :) Thanks for the get well wishes! I'm looking forward to the weekend when my parents will come down for a visit. You can probably expect an Em's World video on that! :)

Enough talk about my cold! This past Saturday I stopped by the Clinique counter at my local Macy's- where a Gift with Purchase was offered for purchases of $21 or more (or something close to that). I really haven't tried hardly anything from Clinique, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to test out a handful of items for a good price.

What I bought:
-Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder (oil free) in 02 Stay Neutral
-Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 in Fireberry. (both are shown on the right side of the picture).

I can always use an oil-control powder when it comes to reducing shine under those bright lights on the news desk. Definitely liking it so far- it doesn't appear cakey and keeps shine to a minimum. And the gloss is a unique berry shade with a golden undertone (subtle shimmer). It really does last a LONG time for a lip gloss!

What I got for free:
-Large cosmetic bag
-Mini bag
-Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
-Even Better Skin Tone Correction Moisturizer SPF 20
-Colour Surge Eyeshadow duo in Strawberry Fudge
-High Lengths Mascara (curved comb-style rubber brush mascara)
-Different Lipstick in Raspberry Glace

There were 2 kits to choose from in the gift sets- the only difference was the eye & lip color. I haven't tried the skincare items long enough to know how well they work for me, but both the Dramatically Different moisturizer and the Even Better moisturizer appear to be very rich and hydrating. I wasn't overly impressed with the eyeshadow- it wasn't all that pigmented, though the pinkish shade in the duo is really pretty- with a gold undertone. I've only used the High Lengths mascara once so far- and it didn't make my lashes look huge, but it did provide some nice definition. I didn't really like how the comb was curved because it made it harder to apply on my left eye for some reason. The lipstick is a pretty berry tone that's not too thick & heavy. I really like it for a bright pop of color!

Swatches from left to right: Colour Surge Eyeshadow Duo in Strawberry Fudge, Different Lipstick in Raspberry Glace, and Long Last Glosswear in Fireberry.

Just thought I'd show some fun springtime makeup to brighten-up my otherwise sick & gloomy day! Hope we can all round out the work week on a high note! :D

FOTD: Natural Weekend Look!

Hey everyone! If you checked out my latest Em's World video- you know I spent Saturday doing some house hunting with Tyler! I didn't have a lot of time to make a tutorial, but I thought I'd snap a few pictures for a "Face of the Day" (FOTD) blog! :) I'd like to do more of these... they're no big deal to do and I think it's fun to share different looks day to day. I love when people do this sort of thing on my Beauty Broadcast Facebook page!

As you can see, this is a really natural look! There's not one particular facial feature that's dramatic- but I think the eyes, lips, and cheeks work together harmoniously! :) I also managed to put this look together very quickly & easily!

  • After moisturizer- I used MAC Mineralize Satin Finish SPF 15 foundation (I use NC40- the shade I was matched to...sorry if you don't think it works- but it does). It has a bit of sheen to it, giving the skin sort of a glowing look. I also used Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer (forgot to put it in the picture!) under my eyes and around my nose.
  • Since I didn't want my "glow" from the foundation to turn to shine- I used ELF Studio Translucent Matifying Powder on my nose and forehead since those are the first places I start to notice shine.
  • I didn't use much bronzer for this look, but for a light cheek contour and around my temples- I used Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer with a fluffy brush.
  • To warm up the apples of my cheeks, I used ELF Studio Blush in Blushing Rose. It's a fairly intense blush color, so I barely dabbed my brush into the product.
  • For eyes, I first used my Palladio Herbal Eye Primer (not in picture, but I'll be reviewing it soon). Then I used L'oreal HIP Matte Shadow Duo in Dashing. I used the peachy shade all over my lid, and the black on the outer corner. I also used it to set/smudge my lower liner.
  • On my upper lashline- L'oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense. I gave-in to the hype on this one... and I don't really like it as well as Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Blackest Black. It goes on more intense than this... but the L'oreal is ok.
  • I used L'oreal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner in Black on the outer part of my lower lashline. This is almost exactly like Milani Liquif'eye liner- so if you don't have access to that one- grab the L'oreal. It's very smooth and after about 15 seconds- it won't smudge! I lightly used the black shadow for soft definition on the inner part of the lower lashline.
  • For mascara- I'm trying to new Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous mascara in Very Black. It was 40% off at Walgreens so I thought I'd give it a try. So far, it's sort of average for me, but I'll keep working with it. I think it gives more volume than regular Lash Stiletto.
  • Next-- my favorite brow product!! Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer in Blackened Brown (step 1) and Taupe (step 2). The dark brown on step 1 is a tinted wax pencil- a little thicker than your average liner. I used it to better define the inner & outer portions of my brows. SO easy & natural! Then the lighter end (reminds me of a jumbo shadow pencil) is a bit shimmery, and I use that to highlight under the arch of my brows.
  • Finally, for a light hint of color on my lips, I used the L'oreal HIP Jelly Balm in Succulent (got this as a BOGO with the shadow mentioned above from Walgreens). I love how these balms have a light cotton candy scent, come in a glass jar, and give you shiny, sheer, buildable color (I could've made it look a bit more intense than it does in the pics).
Thanks for checking out my blog, and if you have a picture of your "Face of the Day" feel free to post it on the Beauty Broadcast Facebook page and share the products you used! :)
