New House News: Painting Progress

Hey friends! I'm going to get back to beauty-related blogs soon, promise! These house updates are just so quick to post with pics from my Blackberry. We've made big progress on the painting (and by we, I mostly mean Tyler :) I think I mentioned this before- but we're not doing a whole lot of painting in the house, but a few rooms are getting a new look. We're leaving a lot of the paint pretty light throughout the house- but as you see below, I'm going for a deeper, cozy look in the dining room. This shade is called "Sangria Red" and I think it's gorgeous. It looks a bit darker than it actually is in this picture... but I just love how it's turning out. This picture shows one coat- but there are 2 coats on it at this time.

One of the small details of a new house- lining those cabinets! I got this shelf liner from Wal-Mart. It's really neutral and you basically just cut it to the size you want and lay it in there. There's no adhesive on this- but it lays surprisingly flat and I think it'll work well. The grid pattern also makes it very easy to cut it straight!

New House News: Primer Time

Hey everyone! So who else is absolutely exhausted? This whole trying to work and getting ready to move is seriously draining. If you're familiar with me and my blog & videos, you know I anchor a morning newscast- so I'm waking up at 1:30 a.m. and going to bed at around 6:30 pm. I haven't been quite so successful with that this week... I was painting well past my bedtime last night, so any amount of perkiness on the show this morning was coffee-induced! I don't see things changing anytime soon. Okay... that concludes the complaining section of this blog!

Yesterday Tyler and I got the entry way and the future home of Beauty Broadcast ready for paint! While you'd think primer would be the first step- you have to make sure the walls are smooth, clean, and that the borders are all taped up so you don't wind up with a messy paint job! So here you see Tyler doing some sanding... we have these open arches on either side of the entry way that let you peek into the next room. He's standing in the dining room, and the opposite side opens up to a hallway. Currently it's green, but we'll be priming it and painting it light yellow.

Meet my new friend, Frog Tape! This is what I've been carefully putting on the borders so the paint will stay neat. What are all those lime green stripes in the background? Oh, that's Frog Tape baby!

I've gotten quite speedy with the frog tape! If you follow me on Twitter, you'll notice that even super tall Tyler needed a step stool to finish the job.

The picture below is the room that will become Beauty Broadcast! We've laid down some canvas since this is the first room we're going to paint! Ultimately, it's going to be a pretty berry-pink shade.

We had to buy so many tools! Buckets for paint, rollers, extenders, little paint brushes... and of course the paint and primer.

The primer goes on in sort of a periwinkle blue shade. I actually kind of like it! We had to make sure we got it in every nook and cranny. We were about a third of the way done in this picture, but now it's complete and ready to be pink!

New House News: Sold!

Hey everyone! Hope your Monday has been good so far! As you may have known through various videos, tweets, and Facebook updates- my husband Tyler and I are buying a house! We closed on our new home today, and by the end of May- we'll be totally moved in! In between now and then, we're doing some painting and making some minor changes here and there. Overall, we are EXTREMELY happy with our decision and can't wait to settle in! This home is basically one town over (15 minutes) from where we currently live. The house we chose was house #3 in my Em's World House Hunt video. We already met a nice neighbor that took this picture for us!

As we go through the whole process of getting the house ready, moving out of our apartment, and moving into our new place- I'm not going to have as much time to make videos as usual. My days will be pretty much packed with going to work, and going to the house to work some more! But I do want to blog along the way so I can one day look back on our house purchase, and also so those who might be interested in buying a home of your own can see what it's all about! If you've already been there & done that- then maybe you can offer me some advice! :) Snapping a few pictures and throwing together a blog is just a quicker way to stay in touch! I will do videos whenever possible though! :)

Here's some exciting news- inside this house will be a room completely devoted to Beauty Broadcast! Check back with the blog to see the transformation. It will be getting a great paint job and will serve as the perfect setting for videos. That will include improved lighting for those of you who can't stand my current lighting for tutorials. (I've just been doing my very best with what I have, y'all!) I have so many plans for the new home of Beauty Broadcast- can't wait for it to get done so you can see it! We're also painting the light green entry-way (shown below) a shade of pale yellow... and our dining room will be a gorgeous deep red shade called "Sangria" (one of my favorite beverages as well!) Other than that, we're not doing a whole lot of painting.

This house has a great deck and a really big backyard. Looking forward to the day I can put my feet up and relax! Yesterday we started taking some things down in the apartment... basically all the pictures and decor. It honestly brought tears to my eyes! Even though this house is a big step up from our little apartment, I got really sentimental because the apartment is our first home. We've made a lot of memories here, and a small part of me is going to miss it! Tyler, of course, thinks I'm a little weird :)

Bright Pink & Green Eye Look!

Hey everyone! You know what one of my favorite times to play with makeup is? When I have no particular place to go, and I have plenty of time to just mess around! I feel very free to incorporate color, and if it doesn't work out... no big deal! Sometimes I don't always like what I come up with, but Saturday I was playing with this look, and I actually really enjoy it! :) If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you got a sneak peek :)

Initially I was just going for a green look because I was swatching some new pigments from Coastal Scents and the green one really caught my eye. (funny story- I emerge from my makeup room and Tyler says "what have you been doing?" and I said, "swatching pigments"... to that, he responded "whatever that means." LOL). Anyway, once we decided we'd spend the rainy evening at the movie theater watching Hot Tub Time Machine- I thought I could really experiment. (if the look flops- you're just sitting there in the dark! by the way, I thought the movie was hilarious). Here's what I used on my eyes & lips... (warning: there are lots of steps).

• After applying a primer to my lids, I used the green side of the ELF Cream Eyeshadow Duo in Olive.
• Then I packed on the new Coastal Scents Mica Powder in Gemtone Topaz (the main reason for the vivid shimmery green on my lids).
• For a little depth in the crease, I applied the dark green shade in the ELF Eyeshadow quad in Ivy.
• I faded up from that with a deep magenta NYX shadow- the shade is called Burgundy Pearl & it's GORGEOUS.
• On the border of that- almost to the brow bone but not quite- I used the Milani eyeshadow single in Illusion (pink with gold undertone- picture doesn't do justice to the subtle gold tone).
• Then right under the brow- Cover Girl Single shadow in Pink Chiffon- super light, shimmery pink.
• For upper liner- I forgot to include it in the picture, but I used LA Girl Fineline liquid liner pen. I just did a subtle wing.
• On the outer part of the lower lashline, I used the L'oreal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil in black to blend with the wing.
• On the rest of the way underneath- all the way to the inner corner- I used Jordana Easyliner in Seagreen. I topped it off with the dark shade from the Ivy quad and used a little of the Coastal Scents Mica Powder around the tear duct.
• For a finishing touch- Rimmel Soft Kohl eye pencil in Pure White on the waterline.
• For mascara- Cover Girl Exact Eyelights in Black Pearl.
• Lips: NYC Lipstick in Chiffon and Jordana Easyliner in Baby Berry.

Here's a closer look at the Coastal Scents Mica Powder in Gemtone Topaz. I'm trying out some of the other shades labeled "new" on the Coastal Scents website. With a slightly tacky base, these really cling to the lids and last a long time... looking totally bold & colorful! :)
