Emily Awards... What did you think?

Cupcake with a cupcake bank I found for $10 at Target!

Hi everyone!! How are you? I must say, the past week has been one of the most hectic in my YouTube career! These Emily Awards have taken more thought and editing than pretty much anything else I've done. When I haven't been shooting or editing... I've just been thinking about what my favorites would be! I have to admit... I've neglected doing much cooking, working out, or housework while this series has been happening. I'm looking forward to getting some balance back in my life between this, my full time job, and everything else!

Anyway, I just wanted to get some feedback about a few different things while the Emily Awards are fresh in your mind. It'll help them to continue to improve next year! :) Feel free to answer these in the comments section if you have time! THANK YOU!
  1. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
  2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
  3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
  4. Any other suggestions?
Thanks SO MUCH for watching these videos! I just realized that if you watched all four... you watched close to an hour's worth of videos!

Daily Nuggets...
  • Cupcake is on Twitter. She is sassy and can be a diva at times!
  • I now have a Keurig coffee maker. It's so quick!
  • Tyler & I have finished season 3 of Mad Men (the last set we had) and WE NEED MORE! We are so addicted.
  • Our morning show is doing a "Behind the Scenes" blog series on each member of the team.
  • I miss my family.
  • I need to re-evaluate my home decor now that the Christmas stuff is down.
  • I am really close to 100,000 subscribers on YouTube... this excites me!

  2. 1. Yes, the separation made the videos much more watchable and I didn't feel bombarded with info!
    2. I love hearing comparisons between drug store and high end and so far you have led me to some good deals :)
    3. I would have liked to have heard a bit more about hair products or maybe have seem them in a video all their own.
    4. Keep up the great work and thanks for doing what you do!

  4. These were the best ever...it was like having the best miniseries...and waiting for the next installment...it was creative and brilliant!
Love the high and lower end pricepoint..and your integrity when you couldn't find one or the other in a category. Would love to see you pop in a favorite nail product if you have one!! Loved it!!!! Thank you Em! Kisses to the Cupcake!!

  5. Hi!! Great work! Amazing intro!!!
1- Separate videos - good idea/ it covered every category, but it takes a lot of your time. So...
2- High end and drugstore favorites!!!
3- Maybe body/feet/hands moisturizer ? But that's not so important.
4- Suggestions? It's hard to improve what's already perfect!
    CONGRATS!!!!!

  6. Hi Emily,

    1. I love the awards being separate. This way the video wont be too long and you don't have to cut anything out. Plus the anticipation is awesome!

    2. Having high end and drugstore rocks! This way I can choose depending on my budget.

    3. Nope. I think you went above and beyond.

    4. Suggestions: Continue to be you! :D

I wrote you this message via YouTube mail but I don't think it went through. Just thought you might like to read it. hehe

    Hi Emily,

My name is Felina and I am a relatively new beauty guru on youtube, but I have been a follower of yours since 2008. I just wanted to write you and tell you how much I admire you and how much you inspire me in many ways.

First, I got married on December 18, 2009 to my prince (hehe) and watching you and Tyler, who have been married a bit more than us, just makes me look up to both of you as a couple. The support, love, and respect you both have for each other is beautiful and shows. I wish you both many years of happiness and blessings.

Second, I admire you as a professional woman in society. Both my husband and I are juniors at different universities. He is double majoring in computer science and business and I am majoring in Sociology with a pre-law minor. Seeing how dedicated you are to your job, how amazing you work, and look fabulous all at the same time makes be smile every time I feel like I am having a very stressful and hectic day. Not only are you beautiful but you give something positive to society as a professional and as a woman.

Third, I feel like you are my makeup mentor/big sis I never had. Every time I see you post a video I literally stop everything and watch it. My hubby only watches you if I am on youtube! Hahaha You have no idea how many things I have purchased or not purchased through your recommendations.

Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you because I recently just made my first 2010 Felina Beauty Awards and I totally got inspired by your Emily Awards. I even tried to do a fancy intro! haha took me like 7 hours of editing. I added your link to the video although I am sure all of my 1,147 subbies are subbed to you! :D

I continue to wish you the best in your marriage, career, and of course on youtube. Please continue to be you and do what you love because I feel your passion on the other end.

    warmest regards,
    Felina <3

  15. 1. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos? Definately, they give you a better idea of the products, more description, and it's not all cluttered together, I love that!
2.Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? Definately! It gives us options and it shows that you don't just favour drugstore products only, you have experienced with high-end things :)
3.Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? No, not really :)
    4.Any other suggestions?
Maybe next year you can do a most used product section...something that you have repurchased time and time again and will never stop buying....Just putting it out there lol...Keep up the amazing, beautiful work that you do..your hard work shows!

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? Maybe more hair stuff, maybe some body care?
Any other suggestions? DON'T. EVER. CHANGE. You have only changed for the better, and I admire the dedication and effort you put into your videos. Thank you for all you do!

Yes! It's so exciting to wait the next one!
Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
Yes, but I do love the drugstore ones, but it's good to have high end also.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

I think that it's ok, but I missed something on eyes... but this may be because I'm the freak of the eyeshadows, I can never have enough =)

    Any other suggestions?

Not at all. I just love your vids, sorry if I can't help you with improvements (I know that there is always place to improvement, but I just can't figure out how can you improve, once you do the job so amazingly)

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. Yes! I think the separation allows you to get more in depth about the products you mention, and i love it when you get lots of details and info about everything.
    2. Yes because I still have a lot to learn in high end makeup so I like knowing what's out there that you recommend.
    3. I wish you would've included nail products, like your favorite nail polishes.
    4. Don't ever stop doing what you're doing! :D

    ReplyDelete
  20. I LOVED EVERYTHING! It is obvious how much work you put into your blog and videos. BRAVO!

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1. Yes, having them in their own categories videos was very helpful.
    2. Yes, even though most times I get drugstore, it's nice to hear high end faves--gives me ideas as to what to ask for on bdys, Xmas.
    3. Can't think of any; other than you may need an actual "award" & picture each winner with it..ha! Please keep Cupcake & Tyler!!
Thanks for all the time & effort you put into the Emily Awards as well as other YouTube videos :)

  22. I really appreciate how much detail, attention and thought went into the creation of these videos and how you categorized them. I thought you would have included "nail products" in there somehow but I really cant complain about anything because I really do appreciate your effort.

    4. Any other suggestions?
NOPE!! You're an editing, product testing wiz! Keep 'em coming!!

  25. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos? YES - I probably would watch one really long video but it at least gives you a little break in between. I like it broken up and I actually watched a few in Wal-Mart when I went shopping the other day.

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? Yes - mainly because I can't always afford the high end stuff. I like seeing it because I can save up for them but I most always buy the drugstore stuff.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? No - I think you pretty much covered it all. :-)

Any other suggestions? I don't have any suggestions. All I gotta say is that I really want to meet you in person. You have made me really love makeup and I feel so much more beautiful. Knowing how to apply makeup is everything, doesn't matter if it's high end or drugstore.

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
    YES
Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
    1)a lipstain category
2)a coral/peach and plum for the lipcolor subcategories?
    3)favorite nail products
    4)false lashes
    5)tinted moisturizer

    Any other suggestions?
You are already doing a fantastic job. The way you interact with Cupcake reminds me of a cooking show on youtube called "Cooking with Dog," only here it is "Makeup with Cupcake"

  27. Separating the videos out is always a nice thing - as a person who uses almost primarily indie lip products, it spares me from learning about products I wouldn't use.

As for the high-end/drugstore split, I kind of feel like products should all compete on an even playing field. My opinion is that a high-end product should be AWESOME in order for it to be worth buying. Also, splitting it into high-end and drugstore leaves out indie companies and health food store brands.

One more thing: I've tried several mineral foundations and I liked almost all of them better than Everyday Minerals. EDM changed their formula for the worse, didn't change the labels, and a lot of friends on a makeup forum reported having serious skin problems after the change. I'd really recommend looking into adorned with Grace, Meow, or Silk Naturals instead. So I just don't understand how they won.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1. Yes i like the separation because i feel like you are giving enough time to each category and not cutting out stuff to make it shorter.
    2. i love that you include both high end and drugstore!
    3. i wish you would have included nail polish (base coat/color/brand/topcoat).
    4. keep up the great work em!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1. Yes! It gives something to look forward to after watching one video. Also, as I have been so busy this month, it allowed me to decide which I wanted to watch, since I haven't had time for them all yet.

    2. Yes, again! I love having options!

    3. You should consider doing an Emily Awards for skin care!!! I know you included some skin care products in the final video, but I would really appreciate seeing an award-type video dedicated to what comes before the makeup. Personally, I am always looking to improve my own skin care routine and keep on top of the best products... I credit watching you suggest the Olay cleansing cloths several months ago with getting rid of the 20-something acne I was suffering from. :)

  30. I love that you separated the videos out. I also loved the high end low end thing. I think it would be cool if you did a favorite color scheme or tone episode though. Like best corals, berries, pink, browns, cool tones and so on. Over all I loved it and now I am counting down the days til next year!

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1.Yes. The separated videos are better, you can get into more detail about products and not have to rush through everything. And because they're so amazing, I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer inbetween vids! Lol (I know editing takes FOREVER!)

    2. YES! I usually go for the drugstore products but the vids helped in deciding which ones to splurge on. =]

    3. Nail products would be nice to see. For the Lips video there was no Lip Stain category & for face a Tinted Moisturizer category.

    4. I know you've done other videos on this and kind of touched on the subject in the lips video BUT... a dupe category maybe best drugstore dupes. Or a buy this, not that type thing? :]

I love that you didnt just fill in categories if you didnt have a true favorite. Your honest opinions are the best part of the Emily Awards. :)

I love love love the intro featuring Tyler & Cupcake. She was so great in the finale video. XD

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love having the separate videos. Love having both high end and low end. Really, I loved it all. I can't think of any better way to improve it. Thanks so much for making such great informative videos.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
Yes, I enjoyed watching installments & much easier to re-watch certain categories than one long video. You did an awesome job of keeping the info concise, no long reviews just pertinent info & moved on. Excellent!

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?

Yes if you have them, I liked that you didn't just pick one to have one and that you only included one if you really did have a favourite.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

No you covered pretty much anything/everything

    Any other suggestions?

I know these are an incredible amount of work but honestly they were my favourite videos by far this year. I think I speak for many when I say how much your subscribers appreciate them. Thanks Emily!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos? Yes! I loved having another video to look forward to. I check every day and splitting them up makes them more time efficient!
Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? Totally! I like having the option to spend a little more on great products or if money is tight, spending a little less but still getting a great subsitute.
Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? I would like to see more hair products and ideas. I tried the Natural Instints Hair Color you mentioned in a video and I LOVE IT! I am pregnant and can't have my hair colored professionally, so this was a FANTASTIC alternative! I may just completely switch from paying $50.00/6 weeks and going to $8.99 every month. Sounds like a great money saver to me! And, the color is so pretty and shiny!
Any other suggestions? I would like a tutorial on how you apply your false eyelashes and how to apply makeup with them on. I always have a hard time making them look natural.

Thanks for all you do! Can't wait for the next video! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?

YES! Its easier to watch 4 different vids than one thats an hour long.

    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?

Yes, I think you did a really good job including both.

    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

    Hair products next year :)

    4. Any other suggestions?

Less cupcake. I know she's cute and she's like your child (I have 5 cats of my own and 4 kids!) but she doesn't have to be in every video. Also, I think starting a twitter for your cat is a little..well...crazy. I love you Emily but I don't want people calling you a crazy cat lady :) I watch you for your great reviews and I cant wait to see what you do this yea!!!

  37. Emily,
I think your videos are AWESOME!! I can't wait until the next one comes out and you are a gem when it comes to upfront and honest opinions!
I like the awards being separated into different videos.
I really like having alternatives between high-end and drug store (but especially like hearing about the drugstore)
I really liked your categories and can tell you put a lot of hard work into the Emily awards. Maybe an award for best overall body moisturizer would be helpful. :) Could you also do an award for the best hair accessories?
Keep up the awesome work! Your videos are always of great quality - great advice, great poise, and a lot of fun!!!

  38. 1) Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
I feel like I am the only nay sayer on this one, but I assume you would like us to be honest. I actually didn't watch all the catagories. I watched the first two I think and the others I just looked at the description to see which products won. I have limited time with working full time and going to school full time, YB is my relaxing time, but my time is limited, and I thought all the videos was a bit much.I feel badly, but there you have it. I know you said it took a lot of time, honestly I would have liked a condensed version.
    2) Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? ABSOLUTELY!!

    3) Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? Overall I thought it was well done. There was not a variety of products, but it would be unrealistic to expect you to try a wide range of products. So overall good job.

    Any other suggestions?

Have you ever heard of the Allure Readers Choice Award? I am assuming you have since the Emily Awards followed a similar format. How about you have your subscribers vote for what they consider to be there best product for the catagories. You can take the top three and choose what you think is the best one for the Emily Awards. Using this format you are not buying a ton of products, you are not only using the options of your subscribers but you are weighing in as well.
    Food for thought.

Since I started on a negative note I would like to end on a postive note. How about a joke? lol
I found your vidoes maybe two months ago and I love them by the way. The very first video of your I listened to I was sitting on my bed. While the video loaded I was doing something else, as your started talking I thought you myself hmmm that's odd. I looked up to the screen. I looked at you as you spoke to the video almost confused I am sure. And I thought to my self what is off here....or should I say what is different. I kept staring that you taking and I kept asking myself what is going on what is strange that I can't put my finger on. Then I said huh....that's odd she sounds like the folks that read the news. BA-DA-CHING.....Only later did I find out.....hope that made you laugh. :-)

  39. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos? - Definitely! That way you can go into way more detail and pick more categories.

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? - Yes, that's great because it helps gives everyone an option. There are some items I prefer to have drug store versions (like mascara) and others I love high end.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? - Maybe tools could have had more categories, like favorite liner brush, favorite shadow brush, favorite blush brush.

Any other suggestions? Just keep being awesome! I love your videos and get super excited when I see a new one is posted.

  40. Poof, I absolutely loved the Emily Awards. GREAT JOB OMG. The amount of thought and time that went into them--I'm the kind of person who can recognize a labor of love, and that is so what this was.
PS check your email for info re: Mad Men.

  41. Love Madmen!!!! Can you do some tutorials on makeup inspired by madmen? That would be awesome!

  42. 1.Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
-Yes, i love the idea of what you did for 2010. If it's all together it's gonna be a really long video! And at least whoever is just interested in the eye or face makeup only will watch those parts.

    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
-Yes, because not everyone can afford high-end and sometimes dipping into drugstore can make you find some dupes for high end ones and sometimes drugstore products are better than high-end.

    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

-Eyes, lips and face already completes it. But adding tools, etc is a bonues! :D

    Any other suggestions?
-Now that you are in HD.. i can have no complaints no more xD PLus cupcake and tyler's help just made the videos perfect! :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
Yes; you were able to cover many products from different catagories and were very very specific and gave an honest/personal review.

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
Yes! As a viewer you were able to see what was the best of both catagories.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
You pretty much covered everything! Although I would have liked to of seen more hair and skin care products....

    Any other suggestions?
Are you still doing the viewer/ fan favorites? Other than that, good job! :)

I think you've gone above and beyond what I would have expected!!! I thank you for it. Feel free to add or delete categories at your discretion since it's about the products that have stood out the most for you during the year!!! I will be looking forward to next year's Emily Awards!!!!!!
    4. Any other suggestions?
No!!! Thank you for the great videos!!

  47. I like how you separated them. Like having both high end and drugstore. A product category I would like to have seen is best dupe and best nail polish/best fake nails. I can't think of any other suggestions right now. thanks for all the hard work!!!

Besides the nail products, I love everything about the videos (all of your videos actually) and appreciate how much time and effort you put into making them :-D

  49. I love your videos... I would just make them shorter. They were kind of long videos to watch all the way through.

  50. I think you did an amazing job. I think a short segment on your morning/evening skin care ritual and products used would be great.

Thank you for spending your time. I love makeup and am happy to find that there is a community of women that share my passion.

  51. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
    Yup!!!
Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
YES! I usually buy drugstore products but there are a few products that I want to be consistent and high quality (e.g. undereye concealer)
Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? nope!

    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
nail products and hair products maybe, but overall LOVED IT ALL!!!

    4. Any other suggestions?

    4. Any other suggestions? Hmmm, trying to think of something (love them as they are!), I'm still going thru your videos, haven't seen them all so far, so maybe I haven't gotten to this yet. Maybe some reviews on body products? Lotions and stuff. I did see the one vid of the bathroom tour, that was great.

Hope that helps. Love your vids! Thank you so much for making them!

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? Indeed...gave me 2 sides of the spectrum. I'm normally a drugstore girl, but a few high end products definitely caught my eye.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? I think you covered them all. :)

Any other suggestions? You are fantastic! It's so great that you have so much support and are so sincere in your endeavors both on your blog and on youtube. :) Keep up the great work!

  56. I thought you did this brilliantly, Emily. LOVED the trailer - what fabulous editing! And yes, I think it was wonderful that you did it all in different categories, and especially I liked that you had high-end and drugstore options for each.

Wish I had solutions for the "I miss my family" part for you... As someone who moved across the Atlantic from my own, I know how hard that is. Fortunately you have a truly devoted husband and a darling Cupcake, and hopefully you and your Mom and others can Skype from time to time. And now that the "Awards" are done, you have time for them all again!

Thank you for your very hard work - and for making this so fun for your followers!

2)Yes,definitely let us know the best of both worlds
3)A seperate video dedicated to your 2010 skincare ritual would've been better
    4)Luvd Cupcake!She's a great actress & Tyler's intro was awesome.Keep up the good work!

  58. Loved it. I wouldn't have changed a thing. I was especially excited that you broke it down into separate videos. It was like a little treat everyday! Keep up the great work!

  59. Love the tutorials...it's changed the way I wear and buy makeup. Love the highend/drugstore comparisons! Great job and very interesting.

    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? Yes - love it.
    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? Not off the top of my head
Any other suggestions? Nope. But thank you for taking the time to make these videos and plan them out. It was immensely helpful. You are the best Em! :) I just started watching your YT and love it!

  61. I prefer the separate videos and really enjoy having the high end and drugstore options. I would like to see more reviews on face cleansers and moisturizers/etc, as well as hair products. But I love your site and its awesome to have these videos and tutorials. Thanks and keep 'em coming. :)

  62. Emily,
The awards were EXCELLENT just the way you did them. Perfect! Thanks for all your hard work! I love it that Cupcake is now on Twitter...how funny!

  63. Love the awards and that they were broken up and high end/drug store. Cupcake stole the show though (j/k)

Thanks for the work you put into these. I have learned a lot and send them on to my friends to watch too!

  64. Hi Emily! I really enjoy your videos and the Emily Awards are no exception. I think one suggestion I have is to keep a little board with all the categories somewhere easy to reach, and when you feel a product is a firm contestant for the award, write it down on your list. I think this way is easier to gather all the finalists instead of having to go through all your products to figure them out. I am a begginer blogger and I can appreciate all the time and energy you put into this. I think maybe the list could help the preocess and make it a little easier. Keep up the good work!

    xoxo

  65. 1. Yes. It helps a lot when I want to get back to some video, then I don't have to watch the whole video again.
2.Yes, however I live in Brazil and it would be awesome if you could suggest some websites with internacional delivery.
    3. No!
4.As I said before it would be so helpful for me (I'm sure many other brazilian girls watch your videos) if you could suggest website to buy make up products with internacional delivery.
BTW: Awesome job! COngrats! I just love to watch your videos. You are so sweet!;)

  66. I really enjoyed your awards and like the separation of categories I think it would be too overwhelming if you didn't split them p

I have a list on my phone of all the things I want to try out now

I also like the upper and lower cost items. I might want to try out a lower cost similar item first to see if it is worth going for the higher cost item

thanks so much for the hard work you put into this

  67. First i'd like to thank you for all the effort you put into the Emily Awards, on to the questions you posed:

Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
Oh yes, it is so much better as you can talk more about the products.

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
It is fantastic that you have something for every budget, no one feels left out.
Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
I'd like to see more skincare and fragances. Oh and i'd love a video on what/who inspires you and your sources (books, magazines, etc)

    Any other suggestions?
Keep up the good work and don't feel like you have to wow us everytime with fancier editing, i'm sure most of us tune in just for your insight. Ah! and more Cupcake please.

  68. 1. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
I love the videos to be separate because you can get real specific for that product line. It’s very helpful and incisive
    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
I do like to see both high and drugstore favorites. Though drugstore products fits my budget better. I do like to see alternatives that I may supplement and like to see choices. I don’t mind you mentioning high end 
    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
I would like to see favorite nail and hair products and skin.
    4. Any other suggestions?
I love your videos. I don’t see it as a problem that these “Emily Awards” were so long. I can imagine they were long for you, but anyone can sit through a 2 hour TV show and not see a problem. I could listen to you all day. Very informative. I look forward to all your videos.
I don’t really get a lot from the tutorials because my eyelids are mono lid, but the colors you choose are GREAT. Thanks

  69. I absolutely love the different categories and how each one had a higher end price or a low end price. I think the only thing I would have liked to see is hair products, though everyones hair is vastly different. Thank you so very much for your suggestions and testing of these products. I love your website and your recommendations. Thank you!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. 1)I love how you put the categories into different videos! 2)I think it's great how you show both ends. Some people can't afford the high end products and some guru's on YouTube only show high end. 3)I thought there were plenty of products shown 4)I really enjoy watching your videos!

  71. Hi! I watched all the videos. I found some great lookin products I want to try out, so thanks!

    1. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
Yes. I nearly skipped the 'Lips' video (not that big into lip products) but watched it anyway. So really it's a good idea to separate the categories so people can watch what interests them most. Good one.

    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
Yes. I enjoy products from all price ranges so it's good that you recommend both.

    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?
I think you covered all bases. I especially loved the finale video.

    4. Any other suggestions?
Sometimes you said 'it's such a great product' but didn't mention why. Which would have been useful at times. I understand you were pushed to fit everything in the time allowance though.

Loved the vids. Keep up the fab work! x

  72. Your individual format videos broken up my eyes, lips, face, etc. are sensational. Yes, I appreciate reviews on high end vs drugstore products. I wouldn't mind seeing reviews on Avon or Mary Kay, but you don't need to go out and buy these products if you don't already have them. I've recently stumbled upon your YT channel and have subscribed. I also now follow your blog through my Google Reader. Your videos and information you impart have greatly enriched my life. I've finally learned how to properly apply make-up and people guess my age to be 15 years younger. If I'd only started wearing makeup sooner! I can't thank you enough for your time and effort. Your productions are first rate and I salute you all the way from Stafford, VA. With heartfelt thanks.

  73. Love the separate videos en love the high end en drugstore fav`s. Suggestions I would have is a categorie with brands to be found in Europe, I know you have lot`s of fans over here. In most of europe one can find the following brands(just so you know), some of which are already featured in you videos lucky me :)
drugstore selection:Loreal, maybelline, rimmel, bourgois, revlon (sometimes), max factor
high end: chanel, dior, estee lauder, lancome, mac (sometimes), clinique
keep doing what your doing :D

  77. 1. yes! I also love that you did not upload them all at once....the wait kept things interesting, this was my first year seeing the Emily Awards and I am already counting down for next year!
2.YES! In certain categories, I am willing to spend a little more on products, so it helps to see a favorite of someone else's. I love that you shop drugstore like all of your fans! I also love that you try out high end stuff and do full reviews for those of us not willing to spend tons of money on "iffy" products. It makes me feel better when you review and love a high end product, than a guru who only uses high end products.
    3. No I think it was the perfect mix of makeup and "other" beauty related items.
    4. more cupcake!

Any other suggestions? Thank you for all the hard work. I use to rely on makeup counters such as Clinique and others but now I am much more willing to trust my instincts (with your guidance, of course) and pay alot less!

  79. 1. Yep! That way each type of product will be easier to access later on if I'm like, "Man, I need a new foundation!" I'll know just where to look.
    2. Definitely!
    3. Hm. Maybe some more like, bath related items? Lush has a lot of awesome body products. Also, maybe shampoos?
    4. You're the most relate-able guru, and I love that. Keep it up! :)

  82. I thought you did a great job with the Emily Awards!! I am a newer subscriber and I really love your videos. You are very practical about not buying everything high end and always have interesting and creative videos. I love that the videos are broken up into different categories. It allows you to review more subcategories of products and makes it more manageable for your viewers to watch. I really enjoy the drugstore and high end favorites. I also like that if you don't have a high end favorite then you don't mention it. I felt like you were very thorough with your categories. You came up with categories that I would never have thought of. Maybe you could do a little bit more of bath and body things though. Things such as lotion, body wash, bath bombs etc. Also I would love if the Emily Awards had an honorable mention section. Products that arn't necessarily your favorite but still are a great deal for your viewers. I just want to thank you for all the hard work you put into the Emily Awards and all of your videos! I really value your opinions and look forward to each one. PS- tell Tyler he did a great job with the intro to the Emily Awards! I thought that was adorable!! :)

  84. 1. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
Yes. I thought it was much easier to watch, but I think they were still a bit long. Also, if you left a longer time interval between releasing the other award videos I think it would be better.
    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?
Yes! I like drugstore, so it was nice to have a separate category for those only.
    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

    3. I think you covered all the categories I am interested in!
    4. Any other suggestions? I think you are doing a FABULOUS job at these wrap up videos. I always come away with a list of things to try! Also, I could tell that you put a lot of time and effort into these productions! Thank you so much, Emily!

  90. I love that the videos were separated! I was hoping for a bit more in the finale video, more specifically face care products such as washes, toners, moisturizers, i etc. You did a great job though, i loved them! I love that you offer both high end and drugstore options. I am a college student so no extra money for that high end stuff so i love having suggestions for some cheaper end stuff that i can afford! Thanks for putting in so much work, it was AWESOME!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I liked how the videos were separated because you could focus more on the things you wanted to say about the products without rushing it or anything. And as a viewer we could also watch the sections we were most interested in as well.

Seeing both types of makeup was very nice. Drugstore is always fun to hear but for those of us who don't exactly have the money to buy high end we now know what we should invest in because of you.

Nothing was left out at all. We got all the info we needed and much more.....in a good way of course.

My only suggestion would be keep doing what you're doing. You're my favorite beauty guru and I will continue keeping up with everything you're doing.

  93. Early congratulation on almost hitting more than 100k subscribers on youtube!!! You should do some sort of giveaway as a celebration. hehe.

    1. Yes, I do.
    2. Definitely yes! It gives me an idea weather I want to go high end on certain products or drugstores. Also, you should list your most favorite out of the two. (which I think you have done)
    3. I think you covered it all. I've been trying to catch up on youtube videos so I'm not sure but did you mention tinted moisturizer? I think what I wanted to know was either tinted moisturizer and your best pick for press powder.
    4. Keep up the great work! I love watching your videos and especially the annual awards!

    3. I would LOVE to have another category (in the awards and in you channel)... and that is healthy makeup. Like mineral, organic, safe ingredients, no parabens, etc.

    4. I think that what I just mention (as a suggestion in #3) is the only thing that is missing in your channel to make it just PERFECT.
You are so organized and professional! Congratulations and thankyou!

  95. 1.) yes I like it because I feel we get a lot more and for I personaly wanted to see all of them, but someone that doesn't care about the lipsticks just wouldn't watch it :)
2.) I think that you always test everything out and if something is realy good it doesn't mather to you that it is drugstore. therefore I truly belive that you wouldn't recomend a high end product if it wasn't better than anything you tried. so YES I like the comparison :)
    3. Emily I LOVE your hair and I wanted to see that part the most to be honest :) so I wouldn't mind if you went a little bit more into detail about that :)
    4. Thank you thank you thank you! You saved a lot of women a lot of time and money and trial and error :)the whole thing was done really proffesionaly and thumbs up to tyler and cupcake for that amaing into:) you are my favorite you tube guru. YES, definitely! I love looking forward to a new fav video and also, when I want to go back to remind myself what a particular product was that I remembered you talking about, it's easier to find as it's split into categories.

    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?

DEFINITELY. I'm currently saving for my wedding and I really don't want to spend much money this year on high end makeup. Drugstore all the way!

    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

I think there could be more hair!

    4. Any other suggestions?

Maybe do a category for just generally "useful" things, not just makeup. Maybe there's been something for the kitchen or for cleaning or a particular piece of furniture or some art that you loved that year. Or maybe even what's been your favourite thing that happened to you this year or your favourite piece in the news.

    3. Well, not that I can think of...Maybe do more skin care? I find that it's the basic, if you don't take care of your skin, there's no point in using makeup! You need a canvas to work with (anyways that's what I think...)
    4. Maybe do more random emily awards? like your fave tv shows, fave celeb for syle, fave celeb for makeup, fave etc... And call it like the "random cathegory". it's fun to learn more about YOU! :D

    2. Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites?

I do, but I would like to see more high end products. I think a lot of people would agree that when buying high end products, we want to make sure we're not wasting our money on something that doesn't work like it is supposed too. Because your viewers trust your opinions we turn to you for reviews on these higher end products.

    3. Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of?

    You covered everything!

  119. 1. Yes, i did like the separation, otherwise the video would have been super long. I very much enjoyed the intro(:

  121. Emily, you did a wonderful job with your reviews. I appreciate it so much! I love that you let us know when a product is a 2 or 3x winner. Love that you break it down to three videos and love your descriptions and visuals of the products. I am completely over my high end make-up snobbery! Elf products are amazing and no animal testing! I love the Rimmel foundation and primer! Have you ever tried Pur Minerals "Clay" eyeshadow? It is fantastic! Also, do you use rubenesque if you are doing a matte eye for the day?

  123. Love the awards and the format you use. Love the description and visual of the products. I am over my drug store brand snobbery! Elf is amazing! The mattifying powder is fantastic, love the lip glosses, brushes, blush, etc! And they don't test on animals! Also loving Rimmel foundation and primer! Have you tried Pur Minerals eye shadow in "clay". It is gorgeous!

  124. LOVED the Emily Awards! Well done!
    1. Separated videos: Like the idea a lot. More products are included!
    2. Having high end and drugstore favorites: Some people may prefer high end and some may prefer drugstore, so keep having both!
    3. Product categories you felt were left out/not enough of: Nope!
    4. Any other suggestions: more Cupcake in the intro? haha

  125. Ahh! I LOOOVED everything about the awards.

    1. Loved the separation, it made it so much easier to follow.

    2. Loved having a mix of high-end and drugstore. Would have loved to see a few more high-end, but I mostly buy drugstore anyways, so no biggie!

    3. No, I feel like you did every category justice!

    4. No other suggestions, just keep up the fabulous work!

Emily, you have inspired me to start my own beauty blog. I hope that you are able to check it out: http://occasionalbeauty.blogspot.com/

  126. I looooooved your awards videos. The intro with cupcake was sooo cute and the thought you put into them was amazing. I can't really think of anything that should change, the splitting of the sections was really nice and allowed you to put more emphasis on why you like each product, and you did a great job covering all of the most important categories.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? NO! I think you covered everything possible! Hahah

Any other suggestions? Nope! I like it just the way it is, can't wait for next year!! :)

  128. 1. Definitely! I think it gives people the chance to pick n choose what to watch - I was on the lookout for a new lipstick so I watched your lip product video just before I left the house. Very handy indeed :)

    2. Yep. I personally buy far more drugstore than high-end goodies but I love knowing what high-end stuff is actually worth splashing out on so I enjoying hearing about those products just as much

    3. Nope, you covered pretty much everything in great detail. I can honestly say that you covered every question I'd have about the items you mentioned and you can really ask for more than that!

I'd love to be able to suggest something useful but I genuinely can't think of anything you could do to improve the "emily awards" the videos are great and beautifully edited and I love that you've included full details of stuff on your blog so people wont have trouble finding anything you mentioned. Fantastic job as always!! ♥

  129. I think everything was done perfectly this year round. However, it would have been great to see more on hair products. All in all, nicely organised. Thanks for your hard work, we appreciate it!

  130. Emily, I love your blog and vids, so criticism - other than I want more makeup vids from you - you won't get.
I loved the whole split video concept. One would have been too long or you would have had to edit too thoroughly. No one wants good content on the proverbial cutting room floor!
I loved the idea of high-end and drug store brands and I'll admit to a happy tingle when the drug store brand won.
The question about what you could have added is just silly! You could have added favorite purse types - hobo versus satchel - or fluffy bunny slipper reviews, but you covered makeup thoroughly.
BTW, I don't know which room it is, but I like the berry-colored walls in one of your rooms. If you redecorate, think twice about changing that one. The color suits you and you should always decorate with colors that you can wear.
    Now, make more vids!

    4. Any other suggestions? More like a compliment. Keep up the great work. I find your Emily Awards and all your other reviews very helpful. They gave me good ideas of what to buy and I ended up loving them too. I am looking forward to see more reviews from you in the future. Take care. :)

  132. 1. I like the awards being separated keeps it from getting too long and bogged down.
    2. Its good to have a high end and a drug store because sometimes if the product is just as good i don't always want to spend the extra money. Not a brand whore :P.
    3. I would love to see nail awards best base coat/top coat/ overall brand polish.Best False lashes. Best hydrating conditioner.
But overall think you did a really great job. and i for one appreciate how much time and effort you put into your videos having a full time job and a rl outside of the internet i know its not easy girl :)

  133. Emily,

Of all the YT gurus I have ever watched, you my dear are my favourite! It is the time and effort you put into making these videos that make them so enjoyable to watch; believe me, it does not go unnoticed! The Emily Awards are some of my favourite videos to watch! I love getting reccomendations from you about drugstore make-up because I know that the feedback you give is honest.

Since I am from Canada, we can't always get the products you mention at our drugstores, but every time I go shopping in North Dakota, I always bring a list of items you reccommend to try! I have yet to be disappointed!

Thanks for all your videos Emily! Hugs from Canada!
    Kitty

  135. Do you like the awards being separated into different videos?
Definitely. It makes it's easy for me.

Do you like having high end and drugstore favorites? Yes. I stick more to drugstore, but if something is really really amazing I will try high end.

Are there any product categories you felt were left out/not enough of? Not really. I would have liked to see your favorite straightening serum. Your hair always looks so gorgeous.

I missed the high end lip balm - maybe because I LOVE Kiehl's lip balm...
I´d like to give a couple of suggestions:
    - a category for multiple uses products (they are great specially when you´re away from home), like a moisturizer with SPF, a lip tint which can be used on lips and cheeks, eyeshadows which can be used as bronzer or highlighter...
    - travel size products

    Any other suggestions?
Suggestions for travel size products. In spite of living in Brazil I travel to U.S. a lot and love to buy make up, cosmetics, clothes (so much cheaper than in Brazil!!!)...

Please, keep your wonderful job with the blog and the videos! :)

Keep up the good work, you're great!!

  138. 1. Yes, because otherwise I probably wouldn't have wanted to watch a 45 minute video. :)
    2. I have high-end products, but I really only buy drugstore, so I'm happy you included both, and I love that your one of the only gurus on YT that uses and loves drugstore products. :D
    3. I loved it, but maybe False Lashes, Lip Stains, and Tinted Moisturizers?
    4. No, just that I think Cupcake should be featured in every video. Shes so cute!

  139. Love your videos! I really like that you broke the videos into a few shorter videos instead of one ling one.

I love hearing about both high end and low end products. I use both and believe in whatever works the best is what i'll buy.

There's nothing to improve or change, your videos are great. How about nail products (base coat, long lasting polish, good colors, cuticle cream, etc.). Would love to know what Tyler thinks of all this. ;-)

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
