Sigma "Make Me Up" Brush Collection

Hey everyone! Hope your Monday is going well. Mine isn't. Well, it's better now than it was earlier this morning! We were most of the way through the newscast when I noticed migraine headache symptoms kicking in. For me, that means numbness in my arm, vision problems, and sometimes an inability to make sense & find the right words! Not to mention an awful headache. Thank God I got through the newscast before everything started kicking in. I went home afterward & took some medicine and slept it off. Anyway, enough of my sob story and on with the review!

If you've checked out the Sigma website lately, you know there's a whole new bunch of brushes available... it's called the "Make Me Up" collection. It's basically the professional 12 brush kit (like what was featured in the Emily Awards Finale video), but instead of a brush roll, these brushes come in a cylinder-shaped container! They also come in a variety of colors- pink, purple, black, and my set- teal... also known as the "Make Me Cool" set. I love the color of this whole kit, but even more, I like how functional the packaging is!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Sigma brush roll... it keeps all your brushes separated and in great shape. But I like this packaging more because, in my case, most of the time I'm doing my makeup at my vanity area in my makeup room. I feel like I'm constantly needing more storage for brushes, and it's just so easy to grab them out of a container like this, rather than holding a brush roll in your lap (or needing enough open space on your table/counter to roll out the entire brush roll). As you can see by the pictures above, there is a generous amount of space when you put all the brushes in one container... or what I like to do is split face and eye brushes into each container (top picture). There's tons of room to add other favorite brushes in your collection!

When you're ready to go, just consolidate your brushes into one container, and it snaps shut on each side. I like that the container is tall enough so you don't have to worry about brush fibers getting caught when you close it. The benefit- you get to keep your brushes dust free and covered when you're not using them... the downside- the brushes have more of a tendency to move around if you're on the go, and hopefully they don't get turned upside down (that's not really a concern with the brush roll, which holds each brush in place). I enjoy the faux leather look of the container, the visible stitching, and the cute snaps. It'll definitely brighten up your makeup area! :)

I've reviewed the Sigma brush kit before (just like this, only it's black), as well as the Sigma Travel brush kits. Sigma brushes are also a 2 time Emily Awards favorite in the brush category. So hopefully I've made it clear that the quality is awesome. These brushes are no exception. Again, they are the same brushes you get in the complete kit, only you have shiny teal handles and a matte, deep teal ferrule.

Here's a closer look at the face brushes... you get a powder brush, a stippling brush, a flat foundation brush, an angled blush brush, and a concealer brush.

For eyes, you have a large shader brush, a flat shadow brush, a blending brush, an angled brush, a pencil brush, an angled liner brush, and a pointed liner brush. (this is all my terminology, not necessarily the exact names on the brushes)

Another cute detail, the print on the brushes is in a cute metallic color that gives off a rainbow effect. Again, you can clearly see what each brush should be used for, in case you forget! The whole kit is available at the Sigma website. Keep in mind, this kit is an investment- it costs $99.00. That amounts to about $8.25 per brush, not counting the container. Considering the cost of MAC brushes and other high end brush brands, this is a pretty great deal. It would be the ultimate gift for someone you care about, or a great addition to your vanity.

Daily Nuggets...
  • I HATE migraine headaches. They keep you from doing what you want and you never know when one is going to pop up. The prescription medication Imitrex has been the most effective thing I've taken for them... but you still basically have to lay in a dark room & sleep it off.
  • It's a really, really dreary day outside.
  • I tried out a recipe for crock pot enchiladas yesterday- it was really good & I'll blog about it soon.
  • I'm craving some ice cream right now. Any kind, doesn't matter.
  • I'm uploading a video I shot over the weekend- Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush & powder. The powder has cute heart shapes in it!

  6. Sorry about your headache, I too suffer from migraines and have almost the exact symptoms. They are no fun and can ruin your whole day.

On another note, I have been looking at those brushes now for a few weeks. I have wanted to try Sigma brushes for a while but I've heard mixed reviews about these smaller sets. I guess one will never know unless they try ;) lol thanks for the post and I can't wait to see that recipe

  7. Have you ever reviewed a vegan or cruelty-free set? I've been looking for one for ages, and have tried a few, but they're usually low quality or just hard to find. I've tried eco-tools, and they're nice, but other than that, I can't seem to find a set online or in stores.

  11. Sorry for your migraine. Your symptons sound like a cluster headache(migraines but much worse). Anyways I get migraines and understand that feeling of not being able find the right words, but really it just plain hurts to talk.

I am really excited about those Sigma brushes! I want the purple set soooo bad. They are just TOO CUTE for words.

  12. Hope you feel better Emily! As a side note, I was in CVS today and saw that they are carrying the big boxed new wet and wild kits. A great value at only $9.99! I know in a recent video you said you were looking for them. :)

  14. Migraines are the worst. Hope you're feeling 100% better soon! I know sometimes mine will linger for days... ugh. No fun at all those days!

Those brushes are adorable! I especially like the purple ones - purple is one of my favorite colors. I can't afford them though. I need some nice brushes too but I just don't have the income for it so I just have a couple cheapy brushes that are ok but I definitely don't love any of them. Maybe I'll win the lottery some day and spoil myself with some good brushes. =)

  15. Migraines are the worst! So glad you're over it now...
Love this review, I've been procrastinating on picking up a set of Sigma brushes (don't really know why though?) the price and quality sound amazing. I think I might just have to run out and buy a sigma brush collection ASAP!

    Great review Emily!

  17. Hi Emily,

I love my sigma brushes too! I saw in your Emily Awards video that you love NYX mega lipgloss....could you do a quick review and let us know your favorite shades? I'd also love to see a top 10 L'Oreal product video if you have the time. Thanks for all your hard work and videos!

  19. I am so sorry you had a migraine! It takes me a full day of sleep to recover. It sounds like you get the 'aura' too, that's such a scary feeling. Imitrex has worked pretty well for me too (as long as I take it before the pain & nausea set in). Glad you're feeling better now! I LOVE those brushes, the coral/pink ones are really pretty too!

  20. oh emily, sorry to hear about your migraine. i got diagnosed with child migraines really young and imatrix doesn't work for me anymore! one thing that does help while laying in the dark is putting a damp wash cloth on your forehead/eyes. don't know why, but it always helps me :) hope you're feeling better.

  21. I also experienced a migraine this moring! Glad to know I'm not the only one. They also affect my focus, speech, vision etc.. I get nauseus and the only thing I can do is sleep it off. It normally last a day for me! blah. Glad you're feeling better, I'm working on it!

  23. I get migraines too and have to sleep them off and be in the dark because I get them so badly... another trick that I've used is putting a cold pack on my eyes and head while I'm laying down... it really helps!!! I would love the recipe for the crockpot enchilada's-- love crock pot cooking!!! So glad your feeling better!!

  26. This looks absolutely gorgeous! I'd happily splash out on it just for the packaging. Shallow? Me? Well maybe a little :)

I've wanted to try Sigma brushes for AGES but because I'd have to order them online I've been a tad wary (always like to give the test brushes a good feel first!) I'd definitely be way more inclinded to buy a set cos it's just more cost effective in the long run

P.S Glad to hear the migraine didnt hang around too long! Thankfully I dont suffer from them but my poor sis has spent entire days curled up in bed in a dark room trying not to much too much when one has crept up on her ♥

  28. These brushes are so popular! Do you have any idea if Sigma creates brushes for other designers? My Tarina Tarantino set looks oddly similar to some of Sigma's styles!

Thanks for the review, it was so well done, like always!!

  31. Boo Migraines!!! I have them, and they run in family (although my Aunt & I are the only 2 really hit with them often). This is my 1st time reading your blog & I LOVE it!!! Keep it up girl!

  32. Hi emily!!!!! You are such a talented makeup artist! I like your brush review. But could you possibly do a review on some elf brushes? Maybefrom the studio or mineral line?

Sorry about the migrant. My mom gets them almost every day. Her mother had a brain tumor so it might be a hereditary sort of thing. She takes a pill called Maxalt for it. But they r expensive, so she can only take it when it's really bad. Haha I don't know why I'm telling you this!

    Have a great day!

  34. First of all, I am addicted to your blog and YouTube channel. I LOVE that you give makeup enthusiasts like me tips on AFFORDABLE makeup and I'd like to thank you personally for that.

Also, I completely understand about migraines. I was in a car wreck ten years ago and had a lot of trauma to my head and especially my left eye area and as a result, I have migraines all the time. Imitrex is the prescription I've found to work best, and...as weird as it sounds...getting out of bed and out in the sunshine and with people usually helps clear mine up.

Good luck with your migraines and with life. Keep up the wonderful work you do. Thanks so much!
