Vacation to Panama City!

Hey everyone! You haven't heard from me in awhile, and that's because I've been on vacation! This past Wednesday Tyler and I traveled to Panama City, Florida. We made the 12 hour drive and had a great time. Our travels took us through southern Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and finally- Florida's Gulf Coast! Just got back yesterday (Sunday) night. I was able to capture a lot of our trip down on my camera... then had some memory card issues and took pictures for the rest of the time. Feel free to check it out here!

Daily Nuggets *Vacation Edition*
  • I love the Waffle House- and it seems these restaurants are ALL OVER the south!
  • Not exaggerating... almost every car we saw on the interstate in Alabama had some sort of label (usually a sticker) identifying themselves as Alabama or Auburn fans!
  • I have some pretty severe tan lines and splotchy burns where I didn't apply my sunscreen evenly enough.
  • One of my biggest day-to-day concerns was whether my alternating swimsuits would be dry for the next time I needed one. (don't you love vacation problems? lol)
  • My parents graciously watched over Cupcake during a couple of the days we were gone.
  • My co-anchor Kevin held down the fort, anchoring News 3 This Morning solo during my time off. He rocks!
  • With the exception of a couple of nights, I had a pretty minimal makeup routine while on vacation, consisting of stuff that wouldn't noticeably smudge off if I went swimming.
  • I loved all the palm trees!!!
  • I now have a nice shell collection! I'll have to share that in a future blog!

  1. Hi Emily! You are right, I live in Mississippi and there are TONS of Waffle Houses in the south. My boyfriend was so amazed (he's from California) that we have that many Waffle Houses Floria to Louisiana. LOL.

  2. I'm glad you finally got to see the beach! I can't believe you never had the chance before.

Thank you for sharing your vacation with us! By the way, (and I know you hear this all the time) you and Tyler are super CUTE!

  3. Hi Emily! So glad you liked Panama City. You sure do deserve a vacation! It's a great place! I have vacationed there since I was a teenager. There are a lot of Waffle Houses in the south. Great place to eat! Lol. I love the "problems" while on vacation. Mine usually consist of should I take a walk on the beach during sunset or sit on the deck on the beachhouse and watch the sunset! Lol. Glad to have you back! :)

  4. Hey Emily! I live in GA so I know the whole Waffle House deal except you only go there to cure a hangover, it has to do with the grease lol! And as for the stickers on the cars....the south or shall I say the SEC is VERY loyal to their college football teams. If you ever come through GA you'll see a "G" on most cars or "Dawgs", yes we spell it differently but we love our football here! I'm glad you enjoyed the beach; I'm originally from South Florida and I miss the palm trees!!!

  5. I'm originally from Georgia, but now I live in Sarasota, FL, so I can relate to you on your trip :D

Waffle House is my favorite! I'm glad you like it. So many people have never heard of it. My sister goes to Alabama, so we are "those people" that have the stickers all over our cars haha.

I'm also glad you enjoyed Panama City. It really is a nice place. If you ever get a chance, come on down to Sarasota: we have Siesta Key (voted one of the nicest beaches in the world)~

  7. Wow I know what you mean Emily! I was like that the first time I went to California, I LOVED the palm tree and beach cause I had never seen them before! I wish we had palm trees in the midwest cause they are so pretty. The beach would be nice too. That's awesome about the Waffle House, I have never been to one but always wished I could go. We don't have that here either, it's in Kansas City and I have heard it's really good. I loved seeing your vacation pics, so neat!!!

  8. What did you think of the salt water? I love it so! My dream is to live at the ocean.

  9. I miss PCB. Waffle House is the best. I have told my friends we need to play the WaHo drinking game one night. Rent a limo and every time you see a Waffle House sign take a shot. You'd be drunk after 2 exits!.

And exactly what Georgia Peach said, we're serious about our SEC football down here. My entire desk area is nothing but red & black for UGA.

  10. Hey Emily, loved your vacation video. Just fyi, that rocket is a prototype for the Saturn 1 rocket which was used by the Gemini program. It is right outside Huntsville, where I live, home of Marshall Space Center. Glad you enjoyed the gulf.

  12. I live in Pensacola, FL (about 45 min from Panama City) and yes there are tons of Waffle Houses.. My husband is from NH and when he moved down here I was so surprised that he had never eaten there before. Now it's his favorite place. We have amazing beaches down here. Glad you got to experience it! :)

  15. LOL I busted out laughing when I read your comment about the bumper stickers in AL! With the exception of maybe FL, AL has the most HATED in-state rivalry in the south! lol Probably has something to do with both teams being the same conference.

  16. I can't believe ya'll don't have WAffle houses. LOL. I live here in Alabama and they are everywhere. Also on a side note I'm a Auburn fan. Alabama and Auburn is a big rival here! Love seeing your video.

  18. I find it interesting that there are people that have never seen the ocean. I live in MObile so I see it all the time. I guess I take it for granted. It is a beautiful sight to see.

  22. Hi Emily!
Glad you had a nice vacation!

Could you please share your vacation makeup products? I work outside in the spring, summer, and fall, and usually forego makeup for sunscreen....I'd love to know and try products that are smudgeproof/waterproof!
    Thanks, Jackie

  23. I am from Alabama and your comment about every car having an Alabama or Auburn decal is SOO accurate!! Fall is not known as fall but as "Football season"!!! The count down to college football season started back in July Lol!! You and Tyler should come down to an Auburn game and see how we do football in the south!! It would be an interesting segment for your morning TV show!! Thanks so much for your awesome videos and oh yeah WAR EAGLE!!! : )

  24. I live in Alabama, and the thing about the car stickers...yep. EVERYONE has one. It's crazy. It's usually either Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, or Florida. (I have an Alabama one on mine (: )

  25. The thing about the car stickers is SO true! I live in Alabama. And the Alabama/Auburn rivalry is so big. I'm an Alabama fan (ROLL TIDE!) and I can NOT talk about football with any of my friends that are Auburn fans. We will end up arguing and get in a big fight...it's horrible. At all of the schools near me, they have Alabama/Auburn days. It's where you can show your spirit and be all Alabama or Auburn EVERYTHING! Some kids paint their bodies. And here it's not the Fall. It's FOOTBALL SEASON! Whoot-Whoot!

  30. hope you had fun on your trip! waffle house IS all over the south and is sooo good! and yes some people in the south are big auburn, alabama and uga fans which is strange to me because most of them never attended these schools!
