Resolutions for 2012

Hi everyone! It's 2012! As you can see, Cupcake got very excited when the confetti started flying in Times Square last night. I think she was trying to bat it off the screen... or she just really likes Ryan Seacrest- one of the two. During all the New Year's festivities, I got to thinking about my resolutions. And earlier in the week I was reading that if you make your resolutions public, you're more likely to keep them. So here are some general, uninteresting resolutions- plus some very specific beauty-related resolutions! You'll notice, I'm trying to be as honest as possible with myself in this "self-improvement" blog! There's just something about a new year that gives me that "fresh start" feeling- so good luck to all who're making resolutions!
  • Get more sleep. On my schedule, I tend to let tweeting, TV watching, blogging, and YouTubing drift into the time when I should be in bed for my 1:30 a.m. wake up. Whether it's napping in the afternoon or just an earlier bed time, I need to make sure I'm getting enough sleep.
  • Drink more water! I swear, I resolve to do this about once a month and it never seems to stick. I hear about all of the health & beauty benefits to drinking lots of water, but honestly, I haven't ever really felt like I'm drinking enough to get those benefits! So I'm making it happen this time!
  • Work-out consistently & eat healthy. These two kind of go hand-in-hand as things I struggle with. I was thinking today about how great I was about working out when I was a college cheerleader. And I really liked it! Now I've gotten out of the habit of doing it with consistency. I tend to rationalize this by being busy with a full time job, YouTube, etc. But if I make it a priority, I know I can fit in workouts a few times a week. And as far as eating goes, even after 3+ years on my morning news shift- it still feels strange to eat something soon after waking up at 1:30 a.m. But I'm going to make myself have my daily protein shakes.
  • Staying appreciative. Sometimes I get so caught up in a fast-paced, busy day that I don't just stop and fully appreciate what's happening. I'm getting to do what I love, and I'm surrounded by people I love. I also have an extended family through Beauty Broadcast, and I love the ability to connect with so many people. So while I can tend to be very task-oriented, trying to do as much as possible, I need to just "enjoy the ride".
Beauty Resolutions!
  • Be more diligent about moisturizing before bed!
  • Get out of my black eyeliner rut and use some colors.
  • Continue to "shop my stash"- making sure I'm using what I have.
  • Take some (small) risks with TV news makeup.
  • Blog with more consistency.
  • Organize meet-ups this year!

  1. Great resolutions! My resolutions are to get a new house or apartment with my husband closer to where I work and once I move there, I plan on being adventurous with cooking and starting a food-related blog!

  4. I struggle with lip colors- in my opinion my lips are "too big" for lipstick or any color products. So, my New Year's resolution is to work up the nerve to eventually wear Red Lipstick! Any tips?

    Also non-beauty related resolution is to blog more consistently.

    Can I suggest we do a "Resolution-checkin-in" with the Beauty Broadcast family? Maybe every 3 months we check in on your blog, Facebook or BlogTV to see how our resolutions are coming along? That way we're all accountable for our progress- or lack thereof.

  5. Hello, Didn't really make any resolutions but will be sticking with my life style change of eating healthy, excersizing and losing weight (30pds so far!).
    I would really like to get my makeup business more active and help more women feel beautiful!

  6. Happy New Year Emily!!! I was reading your blog and you talked about wanting to get out of your black eyeliner rut, well I feel the same way. I work in an office and cant go to far out there with my makeup but i would like to try to use a little more color. I have an eyeliner addiction and have almost every color under the sun but am not sure how to make some of them more wareable. I was hoping you could help me and maybe help with your rut at the same time.

    -I too would love to get into the habit of making excersize a consistent routine in my life.

    -And taking another one from your book, I want to blog consistently on my mommy/ homemaking adventures.

    -I'm also just about 15 days away from having a baby, so losing the baby weight before the beginning of NEXT year is totally on my list :)

  8. In terms of drinking more water, I find that it`s super helpful to keep a pitcher of water or a huge bottle in the room you stay in the most. Seeing it makes you drink more water. If you really want to get fancy, get one of those huge fancy water dispensers, fill it up with iced water, and add slices of lime/lemon, mint, and/or cucumber to the water. Seeing all that will make you want to drink it!

  10. I love that your resolutions are realistic! Most people's resolutions are so far fetched or unattainable that I have to roll my eyes!

  11. I started drinking more water in 2011! I got a few big acrylic cups with the screw on lid and a straw. I found that sipping with a straw causes me to drink WAY more. I keep it full and with me at all times. The straw also helps keep your lipstick looking good!

  13. I don't generally do resolutions but I like your fourth one; sometimes it's hard to appreciate the little things when all the bigger ones are so much more imminent and require more attention. I'll have to work on that in the coming year.

    Some stuff I do to help me drink more water is to use larger sizes of drinking glasses and to keep a glass or bottle of water with me at all times. Just having that visual reminder is so helpful, and larger sizes mean fewer refills. After all, if larger plates encourage people to eat more doesn't it make sense that larger glasses encourage more drinking?

  14. I love that Cupcake got after the confetti or Ryan Seacrest ;-) I have decided to stop making resolutions as I never keep them no matter what they are. I believe that if we really want to do something then we will make it happen. So, if you don't get to all of them then keep working on it!

  15. Sugarbumpkin and're so on target with those water-drinking ideas. Straws are great.

    And as for adding lemons in your water...I've heard and read that the lemon actually helps burn calories. Not sure, but it can't hurt!

  18. Some of my 'resolutions' are much like yours, only I've already started working on them last year and running my own little revolution: using makeup, Clean Eating and doing a lot of workout are biggies.

    BTW, if you have trouble getting food in your stomach first thing upon waking up (like I did), drink a large glass of water and let it work its magic... ;)

  21. Good resolutions! Since you view yourself as task oriented - set a date or time and reward yourself if you managed to keep up with your resolutions. A spa visit perhaps?
    My resolutions are to lose weight. drink water and devote more time to my blog so I hosting my 1st giveaway :)
    I was away for a week on holidays and had no internet access...first thing I did when I got back was catch up on your vids LOL You cleaned up for your birthday and Christmas! Luv it! Keep up the great work.

I want to purchase CG's NatureLuxe foundation but am a little apprehensive about what color should I try. See I wear Revlon Colorstay in Sand Beige and it's exactly my shade. I also have MAC Studio Sculpt in NW20 which is a little lighter then my skintone... Hope you can help to solve this! :) Anyway, love your blog! Happy 2012.

  25. This year I am trying to work out and be healthy because next year when I graduate college I am going to air force basic! So excited and I don't want to be out of shape. I need to start drinking water too bc it is so good for you and your skin. Oh one piece of advice you said you needed to get more sleep and naps but make sure if you nap it has to be for at least 1.5 to 2 hrs bc that is the length of time our body needs to complete one full sleep cycle and sleeping like 30 mini power naps are actually bad for you and can cause you to be more tired and exhausted so watch out! Have a happy new years!

  26. Great resolutions! I am attempting a 2012 no buy for makeup/skincare/bath/hair products, so I would love to hear more about you shopping your stash! And, I still can't imagine that you wake up at 1:30 AM that still boggles my mind.

  28. Oh Emily, I absolutely adore your beauty broadcast channel. I found one makeup channel (letzmakeup -- you should check her out if you haven't yet. She's LOVELY!), and I was looking for more when I stumbled upon yours. I am so glad I did! Thank you for sharing your insight!

    As far as tips for your resolutions: I began my "work out/eat healthy" resolution back in November. The hardest part about working out is, of course, sticking to the routine. BUT, I've finally gotten to the point of getting up every morning and busting my butt at the gym. YOU CAN DO IT! To help with eating healthy, I find the "lose it" app. extremely helpful. It just keeps me honest, and knowing I'll have to enter what I eat into a food journal of sorts helps me make healthier decisions.

    I've also chosen to drink more water and less/no soda. I bought myself a 22 oz. water bottle and take it with me everywhere. If you designate one bottle for water and have it with you at all times, you may be more apt to drink it. Just a thought.

    Anyway, good luck on your resolutions. Looking forward to all of the beauty tips you offer this year. :)
