Jane Makeup Haul from Hautelook!

Hello friends! Remember a brand called jane? It was probably one of my first drugstore obsession brands back in high school (late '90's, early 2000's). I loved their products, including duo lip balms in delicious flavors, and the Eye Zing eyeshadows! OMG! It was before I even knew to describe something as "pigmented"... I just knew the Eye Zing shadows were different from what I found in other drugstore brands!

Then the brand slowly seemed to disappear from any store near me. If I was traveling and roamed into a drugstore, I might run into the brand again (and freak out in the aisle), but for the most part, I reasoned with the fact that I wouldn't experience any satisfying amount of jane makeup again. But several weeks ago, jane went on MAJOR sale on Hautelook, which is a website that features new discounted brands everyday. (Keep in mind, jane is not likely available on the site anymore-- products go out of stock very quickly). Products were marked down big time, in most cases more than half off. I stocked up!! I just got the order in a couple days ago and haven't had much of a chance to try things.. but here's a look at what I got! Some things were favorites from back in the day, and other items (like the certified organic AguaCeuticals line) are completely new to me!

Face Products...

  • AguaCeuticals Aguaglow Bronzer... (There's no shade name on this)... Reminds me at first glance of Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips. I love how this type of product can act as both a bronzer and individual eyeshadows.
  • Staying Powder in Medium... A great loose powder that I used to use a long time ago! I haven't been using a lot of loose powder since I ran out of my Mary Kay Signature Loose powder, which I loved.
  • No Show Oil-Free Concealer in Light... A concealer that appears to be creamy, with full coverage. I don't remember ever using this in the past, but a quick swatch on my hand makes me think this could be a really good product.
  • Shimmering Blush in Peony... A pink blush with varying tones that you can swirl together. Doesn't seem to be extremely pigmented, but could be a nice highlight.
  • Oil-Free Bronzing Powder in Terracotta... One of the first matte bronzers I ever remember using! It's coming off a little orangey in the pic... but rest assured this is a quality bronzer! :)

Eye Products...

  • AguaCeuticals Aguashimmer Eyeshadow... (No shade name on this)- contains 3 matte neutrals and a shimmery cranberry color. I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this kit!
  • Eye Zing Eye Mixers in Nirvana... This is the long palette in the top center. Love the Eye Zing shadows in palette form!! These are all kind of a satin/shimmer finish, except for the cream and brown on the right side, which are matte. I like how all Eye Zing shades have a name (they're listed on the back)- and whether they're sold single or in a palette, you know exactly what shade it is... it's never just a random color.
  • Eye Zing Mix & Match 6-color palettes in Manhattan Tones and Baja Tones... The Manhattan palette on the left contains shades of green, mauve, plum, bronze, and a white highlight. I've been wanting to try more olive looks, so I thought this one would be fun. And Baja Tones just screams summer! I think the gold & turquoise- paired with the neutrals in this kit- will be so interesting. I love that jane palettes always seem to have AT LEAST one matte color!
  • Eye Zing Shadow Collection... These six circular duos & singles were boxed up and sold together. All of the shades look great- except the blue color was broken. Given all the products I bought, I'm not too disappointed by one broken shadow! I swatched a few of the colors below...

Left to Right: Perfection/Sungloss (Duo), Clubbing/White Lies (Duo), Dazzle (Single), Hazelnut (Single).

I absolutely LOVED clubbing-- the sparkly black color- so I'm super glad to have it again! And Dazzle is also gorgeous.... a mauve with gold shimmer. So excited to start adding these in to my daily makeup routine! :)

By the way... out of curiosity I checked janecosmetics.com and this is the screen that came up!! I'm super excited that the brand is launching a new collection this summer! Type in your email address to be notified when it comes out! :)

Daily Nuggets...

  • I'm not gonna lie, I want my weekend back. It was relaxing, fun, and very enjoyable.
  • Tyler and I golfed yesterday... it went OK, but I'm not very consistent yet! We took some video of the experience for a future vlog.
  • Speaking of vlogs for Beauty Vlogcast... would you like to see something on my favorite magazines? Maybe Tyler's too? I thought that might be fun.
  •  Still working hard on blush dupes... I have about 5, maybe 6 solid dupes. I'm trying to come up with more before I do a video on them.

  1. You can fix a broken shadow if you still have all of it, with rubbing alcohol mixed in!
I miss jane in stores, I loved it so much. It's one of the first shadows I remember buying for my best friend when we got into make up. It was an Eye Zing in Clubbing.

  2. I used to love Jane. They had a really good mascara I loved. I recall it slowly disappearing from my Walgreens several years ago. Everything was clearanced out, then it was gone...

  4. They have limited Jane cosmetics in my local Nordstrom Rack. Any ladies that have access, they have quite a few blush and bronzers that look pretty good. I bought a few and have been pleased with their quality.

  8. I forgot about Jane! I'll keep an eye out for it. I don't think I ever even had any, I just loved looking at it when I was younger.

  9. I ordered the Shimmering Blush in Peony too, and it's now my go-to blush. I do have fair skin, so that probably makes a difference, it gives me the perfect rosy glow. It's easy to build up without looking streaky or painted on.

I'm super excited about the new collection launching. Thanks for the heads-up!

  10. If you're looking for a good loose powder, the Clinique one is nice, and it has this super cool twisty thing so you only get the powder you need, which is good because I've left the whole thing open and dropped it before. Instead of losing all the product, I only lost the little bit I'd twisted out. :D

  11. I miss the Jane Megabites lipsticks..they smelled and tasted amazing. I still have two of them for sentimental reasons, but they smell awful now. I wish they'd bring those back!

  12. My old WalMart had all of their Jane stuff on clearance last May, and I was able to pick up a few items them (a few blushes and a bronzer). I used to love Jane too when I was in high school. I had this loose blush with this awesome sheen to it that I completely used up because I loved it so much. I'll have to keep an eye out for the new collection.

  18. Jane was my go to makeup in high school. Maybe about a year ago I caught a clearance sale on it and picked up a few things. It isn't as good as I remembered though. I had thought they discontinued it from the way it was clearanced every where and then you just didn't see it anymore. Maybe someone bought them out and revamped the products. I will definitely have to check out the new collection.

    xoxo,

  19. Hey Emily-I went to Big Lots the other day and browsing around I found some Philosophy brand products. Do you have Big Lots near you? You never know what you will find in there. Anyway--I got a Shimmering Face Powder in "Amazing Grace", a blush in "Bare Your Soul", and an eyeshadow duo called "Heaven and Earth". And the best part was they were $3 each. Really. $3. Wow. I had to go to another Big Lots nearby and check to see if they had any. Yay!! They had even more. I got two more blushes and a lipgloss and then found a little palette "the supernatural coloring book". So cute! All of it has really nice packaging. Maybe you can find some at a Big Lots near you! Thanks for all your insights.

Can't wait for Jane's comeback! and I just got an alert that my fav Calgon scent is back! There's no shame in looking and smelling like your high school self xoxo

  26. Love your vlogs, keep them coming! I use to have 2 favorite blushes from JANE and I hit pan on both of them and then they were no more :( I would love to see their new makeup line, so maybe I can get them back.

  27. Emily, I need to thank you. I stumbled on your Youtube channel looking for something for super fine hair. I was hooked and spent a weekend with your videos - watching how you did things and what you liked about different products. You got me to try Rimmel and I have a new love.

You've reinstilled my desire to "dress up" for work - and as a nearly 40 year old woman in IT, that's saying something. Who says you can't teach an old dog...

    Thank you for being you.

  36. Please do a review on these cosmetics and expose them for the scam artists they are being right now. Take a good look at the ingredient list... then take a good look at the price they're asking... and then ask yourself what J.A.N.E. is supposed to stand for (it's an acronym for "juniper, aloe, nettle, elderflower"). At $10 for a simple makeup palette, they could at least leave the parabens out, if not add some skin beneficial/natural ingredients. But all you will see is cheap chemicals and pigments, like what you would see in the ingredient list for dollar store makeup.
