Contest Winner, CVS Find, and THANK YOU!

Hey everyone! You may have already seen the announcement on Facebook, but I have a winner for the Lori Greiner makeup bag giveaway! Lina Dy was randomly selected as the winner, and she'll soon receive the lavender set of bags that she chose. In case you were wondering how she was chosen, the morning that the contest ended, I had Tyler choose a number between 1 and 838 (the amount of comments posted)- and he chose 467... that was Lina's comment. Thanks to all who entered and keep an eye out for future giveaways! :)

Also- just a little announcement about something I am probably way too excited about- but yesterday at CVS I found a cupcake print Turbie Twist! It's so cute. In case you're not familiar, Turbie Twists are these little towels you can wrap your hair up in after a shower, and they get rid of a lot of excess moisture. I always put one on after I get out of the shower- it works so much better than trying to balance a large bath towel on top of your head! It's nice to have several of them so you always have one while another one is being washed. I just thought this one was adorable!!

Lastly- I just want to say thank you. I sent out a tweet earlier today shortly after posting my latest video- the Too Faced 1 Brand tutorial... basically I was just voicing frustration over the comments section being especially brutal (not that there was anything vastly different about me in this video- I guess it all just kind of hit me at once)- with people criticizing my face, voice, length of the video, pregnancy speculation (I'm not), and the list goes on. So many people tweeted me some really kind feedback and I  just want to say thank you. And I can't say thank you enough to those who post really amazing comments on my YouTube videos on a regular basis- I'm not even sure I can communicate how much those comments mean to me, and how much those motivate me to keep creating videos. But when it comes to negativity, I almost always do what many of you say- "ignore the haters". It's good advice and I try to live by it! But I am human and occasionally negativity does get to me. As strong as I want to be, there are times when peoples' jabs really hurt.

I got to thinking- when it comes to those little comments like "her face is so annoying"... it seems like such a thoughtless thing to write. Much of the negativity that I see on YouTube (not just on my videos) seems like someone just had something mean pop into their head, and thanks to how easy it is to just post a comment- it's up for the world to see in a matter of seconds. Just that simple! I'd like to urge anyone participating in any format- Facebook, Twitter, YouTube- you name it... to just stop and think before you post. Ask yourself- could this be hurtful? Do I really want to hurt someone?

I'm not trying to get over-dramatic here, and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir with this thought (lots of love for the blog readers out there!!)... but cyber-bullying is all over the place, and not everyone out there has a thick skin. With so many outlets for feedback in social media- why not try to inject a little positivity out there? Use that easy chance to comment to do something good with your thoughts- keep it productive, constructive, and just keep it kind. I often watch Ellen on TV and I love how she ends her shows with the comment- "Be kind to one another." That's what it all boils down to. As strong as we all aim to be, we're all human beings with feelings. Let's value everyone. Thank you!

Love to you all, and once again- thank you SO MUCH to those who make each day brighter with your support. It inspires me- not just to create videos about makeup- but to be a better person.

  1. Aw, poor Em. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with people in bad moods. Or bad attitudes. Or ugly hearts. Whatever plagues them. Just know that you're becoming my favorite Youtuber and I can't wait for each video you upload so I can hear your voice (I don't think it's annoying at all!) And your face is lovely (and you don't look pregnant). I'm so glad you know how to ignore the haters because I have a hard time with that. I hope you have a wonderful, beautiful week that's filled with much happiness. God bless :)

  6. I can't believe what you say! I mean: you're a really sweet persone, kind, positive who make really useful and helping vids and i don't understand why ppl has to say such things about you. Every one of us have better looking days than others but I don't see anything specialy different on you. You look lovely as always, not even a cold voice,so those comments make no sense at all. Think there lots of ppl all over the world that really love how & who you are and probably those hater can't say the same! So keep on doing what you do because we love it a lot!!

  7. Emily, you are a strong woman and a great role model for alot of your viewers. There will always be haters especially when you're on the verge of greatness. Just remember, that the only way to not have haters is to be unsuccessful (and even then, we are still faced with some). Keep doing what you do and just know that you have a great fan base of supporters. I always look forward to your videos and your insight. Thank you for sharing! Take care and blessings!

  9. I just want to say if people get on your video and say rude comments, or bash the way you look, why are they even looking in the first place? You are a gorgeous girl and you do amazing tutorials! You speak with such confidence and are always in such high spirits!

  10. It really is not fair how easy it is to express and spread negativity. You are VERY loved in the beauty community, but that doesn't mean that the people who want to bring you down wont still manage to hurt you sometimes. Like you said, you're human and you have a HUGE heart. Keep being you because you have WAY more people that love you than who are just plain mean. You are the reason I started my own channel. It goes without saying that I love your videos, so THANK YOU for all you do. <3

Sorry some people can't get a handle on their jealousy! I envy your skin as I'm considerably older than you and the age is showing around my eyes. You are are more beautiful than you know because inside is beautiful.

BTW, do you guys stream your news program? Would love to watch you live one day - down here in Alabama!

    You're great! Chin up!

  14. You're amazing. Though I watch several "gurus" on YT, I find that your videos are the ones I look most forward to watching, and your tips and product suggestions are the ones I always end up using. People are only jealous because they don't have the talent and drive to do what you do. I saw on your vlog where you were just in 'bama . . .my home state! You even passed by the Space and Rocket Center, almost my home town! I hope 'bama treated you well, and that you had a blast at the game!

I really love how you focus on drugstore beauty (and your my age... I feel like I relate to your style better then many other gurus). I look forward to your next video!

  19. People can be so mean! I love your videos! I get so excited when you post a new one! You are my favorite beauty guru because you put so much effort into the information you give us! And you're so well spoken and kind (even when expressing your opinions). Keep up the good work! You are fabulous!

  20. I, personally, cannot imagine why anyone would post such mean comments on your amazing videos. I just wanted to comment and say how much I love watching your videos and reading your blog, and sincerely appreciate all the hard work you put into researching, testing, and reporting on beauty products. So many of the things these rude people criticized are the very things I love about you. I love your voice! The way you're able to explain everything in such detail and so professionally and intelligently is the main reason I watch your channel. As a journalist myself, I appreciate listening to someone so well-spoken and skilled at getting to the heart of the matter. Please don't let any nasty comments get you down. You seem like such a caring, wonderful person, and I know so many of your subscribers love that about you. Thanks for all your hard work!

I'm finishing my journalism graduation and see you dealing with your job, personal life and all the make up world is inspiring.
There are a lot of envious people on internet and you are so amazing. Don't care about them and keep your wonderful work.
    Thanks for all your dedication!

  22. Hi Emily,
Just writing to say I love your videos. I watch youtube videos daily & always look forward to watching your uploads. I love the way your videos are polished, informative & well laid out, you can clearly see your work influencing your videos! I like a lot of different beauty gurus, but their delivery can be a bit rambly ;-) I didn't think you were subject to those kind of negative comments, some of the youtubers I see get such hate, dear god, my heart would be racing with the stress of reading the content of the comments! There's no need for that carry on, and it's a poor reflection on the poster only, in my opinion. My philosophy has always been with real life haters leave them to it - no one doling out that kind of hate is enjoying themselves - better to pity them.
Whoops, a quick note of support has run over massively here.. sorry!
Anyway, keep up the great work, I love love love your positivity which shines through in your presentation, you're clearly a kind person (and easy on the eye too!), don't let them get you down!
    Lots of love from Ireland!
    Kell xoxo

  23. I enjoy so much watching your videos and I learn so much. I feel sorry for anyone that leaves a nasty comment. How sad it is that they have nothing better to do than leave nasty comments. Can you imagine if they treated their partner of kids the same way they post negative comments. I wake up everyday with a song in my heart and a smile on my face. Do not ever give into these people. I love your face!!!

  26. I rarely leave comments on videos or blogs, mostly because I have never seen much point. You have really changed my view on that today. I have watched many of your videos and really learned a lot from them and enjoyed them. Knowing that there are negative comments to sift through, I can see how the positive comments are that much more important. From now on I will comment. I did give you a twitter shout out (toseehisback.) My husband really has noticed a difference in my makeup. Thank you, thank you, thank you and keep it up. You are a beautiful person inside and out :)

I am a huge fan!!! I love you suggestions and how you do your makeup. I have rediscovered drug store beauty because of you! I had stopped buying a lot of the cheaper makeup but since watching you I am back getting good deals!
P.S. You are amazing! I love your videos (wished you posted more) and I love Cupcake too!!

  29. Emily,
I'm usually the type of blog/youtube viewer that is just that..a viewer. I never have posted a comment before, but I think this needs to be said. You are really the only channel I watch religiously and get super excited about what I see a new post! Not only is your information super important to me (it's straight to the point, but with a lot of fun involved with fantastic tips and input), you are such a great personality and full of life. Please, please, please do not let the negativity get to you. Where there is positivity in the world, of course the ugly opposite has to follow. Keep you head up and those videos coming! Thanks so much for all the hard work you put into these videos! We love them!

  30. I am 46 years old and you have re-ignited my love of makeup after a period of not really caring how I look. Now I enjoy sitting in front of the makeup mirror each day and putting my best face forward.

My 19 year old daughter turned me on to your YouTube channel. You should be very proud that you appeal to women of all ages.

You are a beautiful woman but you are also articulate with a great knowledge and love of makeup. Your videos are polished and professional but you never come across as uncaring or stuffy.

Keep on doing what you do best knowing there are so many of us out there in cyber land that look forward to all your videos.

  41. The Internet is such a great medium, it allows for us, cosmetics addicts from all over the world, to connect, and to watch your amazing videos.
It's really unfortunate that some people take advantage of the anonymity this medium allows for and end up hurting someone as sweet and invaluable to this community as you!

I can't imagine how upsetting it must be to be bombarded with such hateful comments, but all I can say is never forget that for every silly person who thoughtlessly posts something negative, there are a thousand other people who appreciate your work, and you as a person.

Don't let them make you refrain from radiating your light and making our days with your posts. You're too special for that, and we'd miss you too much.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree that it's so easy for people to comment and not think first these days. I already tweeted this to you, but I wish sometimes that YouTube just didn't allow comments at all.

There are a lot of people who would say that if you put yourself on YT you should expect the negative comments along with the positive.

However, I come from a different perspective as a commenter and I wish other commenters would be responsible and post relevant comments that can be constructive. Saves me the frustration from reading something irrational or nonsensical and more willing to join the discussion. Let me tell you, after experiencing these types of comments through several genres on YT, my tolerance is very low for them, so I only need a few to stop looking at the comments at all and not want to join any interesting discussion.

I can understand the comment about length, it's honest criticism. But pregnancy and your voice? The first is no one's business and you don't ask a woman in real life if you suspect she is, only when you know for sure, so don't do online and the second can't be changed so it's ridiculous to comment on it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't understand why people leave rude comments. If you don't enjoy someone's work, don't read or view it. I have never felt the need to say something mean online, I just choose to spend my time on other pages.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the internet. It is the greatest invention in the world. It's what is allowing me to connect with you right now. Unfortunately, it also allows people to say really nasty things while remaining completely anonymous. Maybe this will help balance out some of those hateful comments:

I personally think you are gorgeous, talented, funny, and smart. Just keep on keepin' on. I know that the people that love your videos appreciate what you do, and that's what's most important.

  49. Hi Emily, I can just imagine how you feel. It makes me mad when I see rude comments, my mom has always taught me if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all and many people should follow that rule :-). You are amazing, beautiful, inspiring, just a great human being.

I wish your video's were longer, and there were more of them, but we all know you work full time, and are on an insane schedule. I always think how nicely dressed you look. 56. Hi Emily! I'm always surprised if I see a negative comment on your or someone else's video. I've read something negative and thought, why on earth would someone say that? What do they have to gain? There just seems to be a general lack of kindness with some people. Please know that there are so many of us who appreciate what you do. You are the first person I subscribed to on YouTube because you are beautiful, knowledgeable, well-spoken, and have a sweet way about you. And you also know a thing or two about makeup! Keep up the great work!

  61. Emily, thank for such a cool post. Love the way you chose the winner! Eheh :) also, the cupcake turbie twist is so cute!

Regarding the haters, well Emily, unfortunately I think everyone in YouTube will always have them. There are people that go from video to video just posting hate comments, and I don't think that will stop. I agree, we need to continue to preach to the choir. Every one hater that comes to his/her senses after reading a post/comment/text about this, makes it worth it. You are an amazing person, and the people that actually see your videos and read your posts, know that. So, stay strong and keep on doing the amazing job you've been doing!

Have a wonderful week! So sorry it's Monday tomorrow ;)

  63. Hi Em, You were the first beauty guru I found on youtube and by far the best. And I think for the most part, all your fans GREATLY outnumber the retards that post all that negativity and stupid comments. They're all a bunch of cowards that hide behind youtube and say all that crap, because if they had to say that to your face, they would all shrink away like the puny pathetic souls that they are. All bark and no bite! So ignore them and please continue to post wonderful videos and tutorials to your true fans that really appreciate your efforts :D YOU ROCK EM!!!!

You are the best part- not the make-up & the products!!

  74. Cyber bullying. Ugh. If you have negative things to say about someone why do you watch their videos? Why do you follow them on twitter? Why are you 'friends' on facebook? Bullys are the most insecure of us all and they hide their pain through cruel and unjust words. I only pray that those who are being victimized realize that life is so so much more than that. When you're being bullied nothing else matters. The only thing you feel is pain, numbess towards anything else. Woah Rach bullying 101.

Love you Em! Your videos inspire me, and never fail to brighten my day. Oh and anytime I need to cry I always watch the video when you met Mally. Never fails. Keep up the great work! xoxo

  75. I'm so sorry you are receiving alot of hate! I just want you to know, that before I started watching your videos, I didn't even know where to begin with makeup. I always looked at it and wanted to try it. It would overwhelm me how much makeup there was to choice from. After watching many of your videos, buying products on your recommendation, I slowly started to build a deccent size makeup collection. Then learned the basics of appying it. Shortly after I gained confidence to start doing more skilled makeup looks. Now, I get compliments all the time on how great my makeup looks. People that know me, ask me to do their makeup for
special occasions! I now want to become a professional makeup artist. I will never thank you enough for helping me find one of my true passions in life!! Now I get excited talking about makeup. Enjoy looking at it and being able to
pick from the wide variety. I went from a mascara and eyeliner girl; to I can apply a full face makeup and not look like a clown girl. I love how down to earth you are. How your all about affordable drugstore makeup. Your such a wonderful person! Keep your head up high, and know your are inspiring many women around the world . Just had to tell you!

  76. Emily, I am so sorry for the unkind humans. Of course it gets to you. It would get to anyone! Youtube is full of people who just make comments to get a rise. Unfortunately that mean spirited Jr. High mentality sticks with some people for whatever inferiority complex causing reason. You are obviously gorgeous and incredibly talented. I love your voice and you don't look pregnant. You are the #1 beauty blogger I watch but I do watch other bloggers and I'm constantly noticing that they all worship you and value your opinions. Thank you for all you do and everything you share. Your contribution is huge and I have learned so much. Please don't let them get you down.
Kind of ironic, I got incredibly excited for you for a second reading your post as I saw down below just the print on your new turbie twist and read "I have an announcement..." I thought this was the pregnacy blog but alas it just a new turbie twist. Which I have because of you and love! So apparently I have pregnancy on the brain for you but not because you look it!

Keep your head up and keep on doing what you do best :)

  80. Hi Em, try not to waste any attention on evil, hateful things. You're absolutely beautiful inside and out. One of the reasons you're my favorite you tube beauty guru is that you're so friendly, relatable, and well spoken. You come across as an intelligent woman who still has fun girly enthusiasm for life - it's infectious. You've had so much wonderful success that you absolutely deserve and sometimes that means people will be jealous or envious. These people aren't happy with themselves and hopefully one day that will change for them. You made me fall in love with makeup, cupcakes, and all things girly!! You inspire me, as well as thousands of other girls and women to appreciate who they are and always try to be the person we want to be. You're great Em, keep doing what you do. We love it!!

  81. Well said Emily. Ignore every word they say. It's not fair at all and is disgraceful that people say these things. Like it's okay that it's said over a medium that isn't face to face. It's meant to be social networking, not anti-social networking!! Please keep on doing your amazing videos (random side note here, I couldn't sleep last night so I watched loads of your videos until 12.30am!). Love, Heather.

P.S. love turbie twists, or turbie towels as they're called here in the UK.

  82. Emily, you are an amazing person! I love watching you and value your opinion. I come to you before I buy anything just to see what you think of the products! Remember, its easy for hateful people to hide behind their computers and show how much of a low life they really are. I'm pretty sure they are copy/paste the same exact comments on other peoples blogs. Don't let it get you down.

  83. Emily, I don't know why people feel the need to be so mean and ugly on you tube, but they seem to be ugly to everyone, not just you. Please don't let it discourage you. I don't comment regularly, but you are the first person that I followed regularly on youtube and the one I most consistently watch. Please ignore the ugly and concentrate on the good. You are AWESOME and I'd hate to lose your presence on youtube!!!

  84. Hey Emily. I normally dont comment but after reading your blog I thought this time maybe I should. I just wanted to let you know that even though you dont see or hear from me...that I am watching your videos and paying attention. I even pause your videos and take notes. I am learning so much from your videos and you are now my favorite on youtube. What I like about your channel is how professional your videos are. Half of the videos out there are not. I even like the news cast feel to it. I feel like your giving us a heads up on whats out there and to help us not to be afraid of makeup. I have been a hairstylist for 12 yrs. and I only know the basics about makeup. And to be honest its my field so I should know more...and thanks to you I now have a new found interest in makeup. I still can't do it as good as you, but I'm trying. I like how you show us that makeup can be drugstore and look great too. Dont let what others say discourage you. I know its hard to sometimes...but the majority rules...you cant stop now. Just wanted you to know that...cause I am sure there are more like me who dont like to comment on anyones anything...but it doesnt mean we are not watching, learning and waiting for the next video. Oh I have to tell you this before I go...my favorite video of yours...was the one where you showed us what makeup books you liked. I am still trying to get my hands on the Bobbi Brown one. To me that is like the makeup for dummies book that I have to have now. I went sallys friday and got my first eyelid primer and went to walgreens saturday looking for the e.l.f makeup brushes. I was so upset that they didnt carry it cause I wanted to practice my makeup saturday night. It didnt turn out like i wanted it...still needs work...but point is-you did that. If it werent for you I wouldnt even try. So thanks Emily.

I completely understand...I like to "show" myself as a strong and confident woman to the world, friends and family but deep down I am TERRIBLE at dealing with critiques of any kind whether they are work, weight, looks etc... cyber bullying is the main reason why I haven't started a channel of my own on youtube...it takes a very Brave woman like yourself to put yourself out there for all of us and be able to take in the good as well as the bad with such grace. Keep doing what you're doing Emily, you are AMAZING at it and soo many of us ADORE you! Thanks!

  90. Hello beautiful Emily. I haven't seen your latest video because I am in the middle of exmas nad have saved it to my special "post exams" youtube list but I just wanted to acknowledge what you said about haters and having thick skin. We can only go so far and to be honest sometimes we need to stand up for ourselves so the truth gets told. You make my day brighter every time I get a blog to my inbox or a video and I thank you so much. I can't understand why anyone would watch something that they get annoyed about. Seems like a waste of time to me. Meanwhile, I think every video you've made is awesome. I didn't start wearing makeup again until I foudn your channel after being at home with kids for ten years. It's been a breath of fresh air. I've also made friends in other countires via Beauty Broadcast. Kepp going - we love you!

  101. For the life of me I cannot understand why people are so unkind! If they hate what they are watching then simply change the channel! Don't watch! To remain there and then attempt to break someone just because is completely unnecessary! The negativity and ignorance that leads to such cruel insults is mind boggling to me! I can't help but wonder how much in need of attention and a quick ego boost these people must be.
But to get right down to a more constructive point and to express the real reason I am posting this comment: Remember, in the end, for everyone of those malicious people there are about 100 or more people who absolutely love you (myself included!) who have learned tons from you, who have been inspired by you to be themselves, to love and enjoy life! People who don't necessarily know you but feel like you are their best friend and who smile every time they see you! Now that is not easily accomplished! It is hard to convey your true spirit through video and reach people on such levels but you do it so effortlessly and it is because of that gift others are intimidated and jealous of you. In a feeble attempt to self- inflate and feel better about their lives they do what comes easy, they attack. I am so sorry for how bad this all made you feel … but I know they have wasted their energy with such a strong woman. Don’t despair Ms. Emily, for no one has the power to break you unless you grant them such power. Onward, the rest of the world awaits your smile! Hugs! :)

  104. Hi Em!!

I'm a first time commentor, but wanted to say I totally get the feeling down about comments. I was always so afaid to blog or put myself out there because people can be so vicious. My son has a YouTube channel and gets randomly nasty comments. I thought this would affect him and hurt his self esteem or at the very least tick him off. Nope, he laughs it off and tells me, his MOM, "Not my problem...they are the ones with the issue, not me..." My son, much younger in years, oh so much wiser in age. I figured if he can do it, so can I, so I started blogging again, this time without fear. I wrote a blog about this today, about how I finally got brave enough to do the blogging thing. Am linking:

  105. I just find leaving rude and mean comments pointless. Like, honestly, if you didn't like the video, stop watching it! Just move on! Beauty guru Wayne Goss did a great video on this, and I believe he hit it right on the nose. People who make these comments normally wouldn't say them to your face (of course, there's always exceptions), but being able to make the comments online makes them feel invincable because they can be "annoymous". It's really just flat out stupid. Why say these things when you don't really mean them? Or if you do, why bother? Say something "I think your face is stupid" doesn't help anything. Like you can change you face (well, you could, but that would be a very long, painful, unncessary project, lol). Just the whole thing, again, is stupid. I think you are just great, Emily :) I'll be honest, I don't watch every single of your videos, but I do watch about 80% of them, and they are all great :)

  106. Ah, you know .. people make it a sport of leaving nasty comments. Try not to let it bother you.

  108. It bothers me that people post mean things all the time on social networks because they never have to face the person they are attacking. I've been attacked on facebook fan pages for just posting my thoughts about a TV show! I'm not one to get upset by things like that, but I was really upset about it when it happened. Those people should just refrain from saying rude things online. However, just know there are plenty of people who simply enjoy watching your videos, listening to your opinion on products or getting ideas from your tutorials. Keep doing what you're doing!

  112. Hey Em,

Stick in there. You're work (reviews, tutorials, etc. ) thru all your media outlets is appreciated by many. All these uplifting comments above are evidence of your positive influence in someone elses life. If someone doesn't care for your delivery or whatever they choose to knit-pick about, it's really their issue. After all, isn't watching utube a choice. If they are just going to complain, why are they really watching. Watching your videos is a priviledge, not a right, and we're lucky to have someone like you who is willing to put in so much of their time and effort for the benefit of others.

    Just saying,
    Leah

I work at a college and am amazed by how this generation (and the next) that grew up expressing themselves so openly though social media seem to have no filter (not everyone, but you know what I mean)...they are going to be in for a shock when they enter the work place and that isn't tolerated.
