Black Radiance Downtown Browns Palette

Hello my friends!
Just wanted to show off a great find from Dollar General... does it look familiar to you?
It's the very same style as the Wet n Wild Color Icon 8-pan palettes, but this one is from Black Radiance and it's called Downtown Browns. It's manufactured by Markwins, the same company that makes Wet n Wild- hence the identical packaging. I am in love with my Wet n Wild shadows, so when I saw this at Dollar General, packaged with two black eyeliners for $5... I was all about it! If this is old news to those of you who have the Black Radiance line in your drugstores- sorry! It's not usually sold anyplace where I live, so I was super pumped about this. This Downtown Browns palette appeared to be the only type of palette being sold.

As far as overlap with Wet n Wild shades, I noticed a similarity with the sparkly purple crease shade on the right- the Wet n Wild Petal Pusher palette also contains that shade. But everything else is different. Definitely a great palette for a plum smokey eye, and I'll make sure to post a pic either here or on Instagram (emilynoel83) when I use it for a look.

LOVE the way all of the shades swatched! The very same quality as the Wet n Wild shadows. I think the bronzy/brown in the lower left hand corner is especially beautiful! The back of the palette says the shadows are matte, pearl, metallic, and sparkling finishes. I'll agree with pearl, metallic, and sparkling... but nothing here is matte, just so ya know. Anyway, next time you're making random dollar store purchases like glass cleaner and wheat thins, scope out the makeup!! :)

Daily Nuggets...
  • The 1 Brand Tutorials are back! Check out my new one! :)
  • Cupcake is sitting on the zebra bench, supervising me as I type this.
  • We have Mally on the TV right now! QVC of course. Excited to see a demo of her new nose contouring kit.
  • Who else watched Idol last night? Did you think a lot of the performances were pretty disappointing? I was agreeing with Randy's critiques most of the time.

  5. These shadows are very pretty! A little off topic, but could you review the Paula's Choice cosmetics line? It's pretty limited right now but I would love to hear your opinion of how the products perform. I love her skincare products.

  7. I came across the palette at CVS and it totally reminded of Wet and Wild. After I did some research, it turns out that W&W and Black Radiance are owned by the same company. I believe that it is the same palette with a different name on it.

  8. I bought that same palette last summer! Mine came with two eye liner pencils! :) I was so excited when I found it!

  10. I believe our Wal-Mart sells Black Radiance and I know that our K Mart does for sure. I'm pretty sure there are three of these palettes and some other shadows. I often wondered what the colors looked like on light skin since I think this may be a line directed primarily for women of color. I'm sure I will try them now since I try most things you suggest. :)

  13. I'm not keen on Wet N' Wild's shadow quality, but I must admit that the colors are lovely. Also, you can't beat the price.

  15. LOVE finding makeup deals at the dollar store. I always check out the makeup just in case - I just came across a beautiful revlon palette, and 2 almay trios at our Dollarama. Yay! Can't wait to see a look with this!

  16. Emily, you are TRULY a gift! Thank you! Not sure if I was the only one with this request but this is a brand my Mum used and loved and I too love. But it's so hard to go up to those crazy counters and talk to some of those ladies, many of them, sadly do not know what I need or am looking for. But your reviews/opinions are right on. Thanks again for this! Caterina

  22. That picture sure fooled me - I thought it was a Wet n Wild palette for real! The colors and pigmentation look great.

Oh and I agree with you about Idol. Randy was spot on with his comments in my opinion. I can't believe Charlie made it over Johnny though, that was a shocker to me.

  24. I love Wet n wild palletes. Keep thinking on them every time a blogger or vlogger says wonders about it. Unfortunately, here in Portugal we don't have access to them... maybe one day I'll try them.

    bye

A kiss from a Portuguese follower since like forever :D

  25. Black Radiance and WnW are sister companies, both owned by Markwins. They are both cruelty free. BR shadows are fantastic.. and these 8 pan palettes are only a drop in the pan (there are 3 of them BTW). They also have a large selection of quads and duos.. the duos are some of my favorite shadows from any brand, such beautiful colors. The packaging of the smaller palettes does not do the shadows any justice.. makes them look a lot more dull than they are, grab one and swatch it and you will be hooked. They are not an exact dupe of WnW shadows, they have a slightly different consistency, but they are smooth and pigmented. Their Complexion Perfection primer contains clay and is amazing for oily skin, and the blushes and lip products are very good as well. Don't be afraid of the branding.. any of the color cosmetics (shadow, blushes, etc) can be worn by any skin tone, and the primer is clear. If you don't know where to buy both Walmart and Walgreens websites have features that allow you to find a store near you that sells a specific product. Also drugstore.com carries them as well, I have ordered from them several times and can recommend them, and they have free shipping over $25.

  26. What a coincidence - I just sent you a message about tgree weeks ago about these- I knew you'd like them because they're by the same company as wet n wild. I bought tgree if them and have two extras so I wanted to send you one. I ended up having to buy three of them because they are no longer available :( and I could only find a seller on ebay offering a lot of three. I love tge bronze shade tge best

  28. Emily, you've hit the nail on the head once again. I am obsessed with finding great drugstore alternatives to some of my high-end shadow favorites, and I had never even heard of this brand. At first glance, I thought that this resembled the Wet 'n Wild Comfort Zone palette, mainly because of the dark, smoky colors and of course the IDENTICAL packaging. Clearly, it's much different, though, and I can definitely find some dupes for MAC shadows in there. Thanks for sharing!

  29. Hi Emily! I have seen Downtown Browns in Rite Aid and CVS for about a year now and it has always looked so pretty... But it is always broken and super powdery, so I have never picked it up. I only saw the W&W palette that was so similar to this once, I actually held them side by side and was shocked at the $3 price difference- now I can't remember the name of it and haven't seen it since.

  32. Thanks I do appreciate WnW even though I love my high end stuff. Since you told me about Meet Matt(e) nude I haven't swayed much from that palette. Just love it. Have you tried the WnW Mega Last Liquid Lip Color? Just wondering if it tastes bad or is too tacky.

  34. Walmart and KMart sells The Black Radiance line! Walgreens use to, but I don't know why they stopped?! I usually one purchase the brow gel.

  35. HA! I e-mailed you about this once, Emily. I could NOT understand how you had never mention BR considering your love of WnW. Maybe you can find the brand in your Walmart. I get mine at K-mart or Walgreen's all the time, but I'm in Philly and have plenty of options.

This brand is awesome! They have a lot of different options from WnW! The lip glosses are super pigmented. Don't let the branding stop you from checking out the products. I Have the BR Urban Jungle palette... LOVE!

  40. I absolutely love the Black Radiance Palettes. They are very similar to the Wet N' Wild Palettes. Just in case you were more curious about them I did a blog post comparing three of them March of last year. I would love your input!

  41. I am in the UK and cannot find anywhere on line that can supply me with this palette. I love the Wet and Wild ones and some times I get lucky and am able to buy them. Does anyone have any ideas who sells to the UK. Thanks in advance for any help.

  42. Just the other day I saw a terrific Black Radiance palette. It was on the shelf right next to a Wet and Wild palette. It was then that I realized they are made by the same company. Both palettes had 8 shades. W&W = $5 BR=$7. Why?? I left the BR palette but it was so memorable I just might go back and buy it. I just hate paying $2 more for the same exact thing.
