Cover Girl Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation Review

Hello everyone!
Today I surveyed the Beauty Broadcast Facebook page to see what you'd like to have a review on, and most of you said- foundation! One that I've gotten many questions on lately is the Cover Girl Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation SPF 20. If you'd like to see what it looks like on my face- please check out my Go-To Smokey Eye video- I'm wearing it in that video. I would've used it today, but I already have on yet another foundation that I'm testing out.

I love to find a good long-wearing liquid foundation, so I was eager to give Stay Fabulous a try. As far as packaging- it's a glass bottle with a pump (yay!) and a cap (not shown). The cost is $9 to $10 at most drug/discount stores. My shade is 840 Natural Beige and it's a pretty solid match for me. I like to use a dense brush to apply this like my Sigma F80 flat top brush or my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I just feel like those kinds of brushes provide really consistent coverage all over the face.

The texture of the foundation is definitely liquidy- but not overly runny... it reminds me of Revlon Colorstay in that way. Unlike Colorstay- I don't feel like this foundation "sets" as quickly on the face. In other words, you have a little more playtime when you're blending it out. As with most foundations, I like to dot it all over the face, then blend it with a brush. Coverage-wise, it most definitely evens out the skintone, and the coverage can be built up a bit in certain areas. Still I feel the need for concealer when it comes to undereye darkness and spots. I feel it's very similar in coverage to a lot of other longwear drugstore foundations I use and like- Revlon Colorstay, Maybelline Superstay, and Rimmel Lasting Finish. It's not as full-coverage as Estee Lauder Double Wear. Appearance-wise, I feel it gives a matte finish, but it doesn't seem heavy or cakey.

I'm having some camera problems & had to take these shots with my cell phone (sorry), but the whole "3 in 1" claim is stated on the back of the bottle. It says "Lasting power of primer, coverage of a concealer, and blendability of a foundation in one. Shine Free." I must say, the staying power was impressive for me. I've been wearing this a lot (since foundations are some of the trickiest things to review/figure out if they're lasting a long time, breaking you out, etc.) I felt it had solid staying power for 7 to 8 hours. One night I felt the need to touch up with powder, but it's been pretty consistent with it's ability to make it through a day. I have combination skin, and I've been dealing with a little dryness lately around my mouth. I have noticed it cling to those areas, or become more visible there-- so if your skin is especially dry, this might not be your preferred finish. However for oily skin- I think this could be great. This also didn't break me out like Cover Girl's Clean foundation does. I really want to try it in the summer before making the claim as to whether or not it has better staying power than Revlon Colorstay for combo/oily skin (it's kind of the drugstore front-runner for me for staying power!) I do not feel that this has the coverage of a concealer. It's not what I'd call "full coverage"- but probably the higher end of medium coverage.

Bottom Line: A quality drugstore foundation! Plus it contains SPF 20. Love the pump, love the finish on the skin and non mask-like feel, and love the staying power. As always, this is just my experience with the product. I'd love to hear how it worked for you- especially those with super oily or super dry skin. Did it meet your expectations? How about different skin tones? Did you find a very light or very dark shade to work for you? I'm somewhere in the middle and this shade was very good for me. Thanks for reading! :)

Daily Nuggets...
  • Sometimes giving an honest opinion garners praise, sometimes criticism. You probably know what I'm talking about if you've seen my latest video. I have a full explanation in the description box of that video. I'm just trying to take mom's "keep your chin up" advice.
  • I have chapped lips. Anytime that happens I think, you have too many lip balms to have chapped lips!
  • Having a few issues with my blogger layout. I'll try to fix that.
  • Justified is on tonight! Thank goodness.

  1. Emily,
First off love you, love this foundation. I find myself reaching for this more than my estee lauder double wear although I absolutely love that foundation. As to your video, haters are gonna hate!!! I found your review helpful. I recently bought the new Kat Von D makeup because of a review that I saw on youtube... I hated that foundation it made me oily but it worked great for the person that recommended it... Moral of the story each person may prefer one thing over another. No one should fault you or criticize you for your opinion. Chin up buttercup! Much love! Thanks for all your advice.

  2. Thanks for the much awaited review. I am 200 soft beige in Rimmel lasting finish (which is slightly light on my skin), will natural beige be too light for me? and is natural beige yellow undertoned?

  3. Thanks for the review Emily. I have to comment on you mentioning the feedback you received on your last video. I think the issue people have is that it seems that you are being sponsored by Sigma, because so many Youtube gurus are. If you say you aren't, that's fine, we believe you. But I don't think people are ganging up on you cause you gave an 'honest opinion' it's because we can no longer gauge anymore who is being honest and who isn't. Quite frankly, I feel that as long as you are up on YouTube being paid by advertisers for all the subscribers you have, than people do have the 'right' to review you and question your practices. All you can do is honestly respond to them, but I am for one quite frankly sick of YouTube gurus complaining every time someone gives them criticism in an effort to get their minions to attack that person. Whether or not that is your intent it is not for me to say, but that video did seem a little random to me, which is probably why people were questioning whether it was sponsored.

  4. Thank you for reviewing this foundation! I've been interested in trying it but hesitant to do so because the Clean one broke me out also! In regards to the commenters on youtube, you are doing a wonderful job of ignoring them. I know it'll be on your mind all day--and you're a great person who actually cares what people have to say-but sometimes it's just best to ignore it. And that's what you have to do here. You are fantastic at what you do-keep doing it.

  5. My only issue with this foundation was that I have cool-toned skin and couldn't really find a shade that really matched quite right. I have light-medium skin, and I tried Creamy Natural which was just a little too yellowy, but the only shade that looked like it might work for cool skin was the very lightest - Ivory I think? and I know that would be way too light for me. I wear Nude in Colorstay and Nude in the Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation and those are decent matches with enough cool tone to blend into my skin! I loved everything else about it! Any suggestions on a better shade for cool skin would be awesome!

  6. I recently got this foundation and I really like it.The coverage is good and it was easy to find a shade that matched my skin tone.I also like the fact that unlike some of Covergirls other foundations it didn't have that Noxema smell.I look forward to all your videos, please try to ignore the negative comments.I have learned so much from your reviews and tutorials and appreciate the time and energy that you put into Beauty Broadcast.

  7. I bought this foundation over the weekend after watching many review of them on YouTube and hearing nothing but great things! I couldn't wait to try it, but couldn't justify spending it right when it came out since I was working on my half-used Revlon Colorstay foundation (which I also love!). So, I finally finished my Revlon and bought Stay Fabulous on Saturday.

I also think it has excellent staying power and good coverage, but I love how light it feels on my skin compared to how Revlon can feel sometimes - and a total plus (to me at least) that it doesn't set as quickly so I have more time to blend. I tend to apply and blend Colorstay in portions of my face rather than all at once to solve that issue, also with a dense Sigma brush.

So far, I love it. The only thing I'm not certain about is if the color is right for me - it may be a little on the yellow side. I bought the second light color (Classic Ivory) and use the color Buff in the Revlon Colorstay line. I've been trying to take photos on my cell phone in different lighting to try and tell. Husband's aren't very good at answering the question "is this foundation too dark?"

Love your reviews and also love your videos! Thanks for making my make-up choosing life easier :-)

    1. I wear Buff in Revlon Colorstay also and like you bought Classic Ivory. I found it too yellow and it darkened on me throughout the day. I ended up going back and purchasing the lighter shade Ivory 805 and it's a much better match. Love this foundation.

  9. "Clean" breaks me out as well, which is so funny to me because of the name, lol! I also have combination skin. (Not to mention the chapped lips right now! I can totally relate to having too many lip balms to let that become an issue!)
Also, I feel like I've seen so many videos/posts where you've been given products to try and you have stated honestly that some of them were not so great/not a probable "repurchase item", so I don't get all the sudden suspicion and vitrol. I also think if I had any makeup brushes that cost more than $1 (lol) I'd certainly think about investing in something other than my hand and baby soap to clean them!
Chin up, like your mom says. I don't doubt your integrity one bit. :)

  10. Emily I am needing a more matte foundation for the summer any suggestions

  11. I actually just ordered mine on ebay for $8.49 with free shipping (in case you're wondering where you can find this foundation sold cheaper). My skin tone is between NC 20-25 and apparently Nude Beige has yellow undertones and should fit my skin tone.

  12. Hey Emily, after seeing that you and gossmakeupartist posted a video about that sigma brush cleaner at the same time, I has a feeling there would be lots of mixed opinions on people watching - you gave a positive review and he butchered it. I really think that had something to do with the amount of negative comments on your channel....yes, of course keep your head up. You can't please everybody! Honestly, I've been following you for over a year now and tried countelss things that you have reccomended and there was only one thing that didn't work for me (almay get up and grow) and you know what? That's ok! I can't expect everything to work the same for me and I think you do a fantastic job of explaining that. I have many, MANY products that I love and would have never discovered if it weren't for you. You are fantastic, and this is just a little switchback on the way to the top. Gotta have bumps on the road to success!

    1. Yeah I saw his video right before hers. Emily at least tried to find some positive use out of the item and how it could work and appeal to some people. Some people dont want to touch the brushes directly and others could care less about brush care. I dont see why people cant see a product being presented to them and decide on their own if they like it or not regardless of being sponsered or not.

  13. Definitely keep your chin up. Those people were out of line with the comments they were making. I think I will by the glove, based on your review. If I decide I hate it, it isn't your fault I am out $40, it is my decision to spend it, and blaming you if I don't like it, is RIDICULOUS. Do what you do, don't second guess yourself, and screw the people that have nothing else to do than to tear apart someone they've never met, and not to mention, through the internet lol. Don't ever think that it was a mistake quitting the news, because what you're doing is what you should be doing. Love Always! Lisette

  16. I don't know why everyone was freaking out about your video. You clearly stated in the video that you are a Sigma Affiliate, so yes you were given the glove, but you never once told people that they had to go buy this. You demonstrated in the video that it obviously worked well in cleaning your brushes, and you were like yeah this is a cool product. But I never felt pushed into buying it by your video. Ignore all those negative people! :)

  17. I never read the comments on videos, but I had to now. Cheese and rice!!! I watched TiffanyD's review, yours, and goss. While I personally don't feel the mitt is worth the cost for my smaller brush collection, I was a but taken back by goss's review. I can see the benefit of it for many, it's obviously much more than just am oven mitt. Keep your head up, some people are just hateful and will complain about anything.

  18. Thank you so much for this review! I have been using this foundation for about a month now and I love it! I wear it to work and have had no problem lasting a 9hr work day or more. I do recommend for people to get one shade lighter than they think they need as the foundation does tend to oxidize a little.

I always appreciate your reviews on products, as I believe you are fair on your reviews.

  21. I have ridiculously oily skin, like enough to run a small country! That being said I LOVE this foundation. I've been faithfully using ELDW for a while now, and never thought I would stray. However, my acne treatment has made my skin really dehydrated and the winter isn't helping, and ELDW cakes up on my face because of it. Covergirl's foundation lasts as long if not longer as ELDW does on my skin, the coverage is beautiful (more so than ELDW I would argue, because it doesn't layer as well). It's my new fav!

  22. I have chapped lips. Anytime that happens I think, you have too many lip balms to have chapped lips!

That's what I think every time, too, haha!

Sorry to hear people think you gave them a dishonest review in your video. I'm sure for every person that thinks negatively about you, there are at least three others who think the opposite. I quite like the point Flowerinmyhair made - nowadays a lot of beauty reviewers or gurus are heavily sponsored and for us as viewers it can be difficult to know if that really doesn't influence them. If you say your opinions are honest, we trust you on that.

  25. I agree with Laurie. I feel like the nay reason you got so much negativity is because gossmakeup artist posted his review at the same time. Your two reviews actually came up one on top of the other in my home feed. But then again I did notice that when TiffanyD posted her review on the same products she got a ton of dislikes as well (she has since disabled ratings on that video). Anyone that has watched you for a while knows that your opinions are always honest. I really feel like I can trust whatever you say as being the truth regardless if a product was sent to you for review or if you paid for it with your own money. Try not to sweat the b.s. negativity, and keep on doing what you do.We all love you!

  26. I found a tip for dry lips on youtube. Pack on the same moisturizer you use on face to your lips. Pack on so much that you can see the color of the moisturizer. Your lips will absorb it and will feel super smooth. Then follow with a lip balm. I promise it works! I recommended this to a friend and she swears by it too.

  27. I started using this foundation a few months ago and wondered if Emily would review it. Yay! This is a fantastic foundation. I mix two shades to get my match; a little more costly but worth it for me. As for the negative comments on YouTube, don't let them get to you Emily. They probably aren't "regulars" because they would know that your opinions are unbiased. Keep doing what you're doing--you're the best!

  29. Thanks for the review of the foundation ^^
Regarding the video, I think you gave your honest opinion as always and don't think there should be a disclaimer for that. However I disagree with people using the words "haters" or "hateful" to refer to those that felt strongly about the product in question and wanted to express themselves. Just as much as we all appreciate the reviews and have always found them quite helpful, this product in particular felt a bit pushed on me. As a former Sigma affiliate I know how it all works and I understand the need to try and use as many of their products as you possibly can because, after all, this youtube business is a career for many these days and you basically make money off of it. What I thought, and probably many others did, was "what is Emily doing talking possitively about a $40 oven mitt? This is the same woman that introduced of us to the wonders of Koren's homemade brush cleanser." I'm not criticizing that you or any youtuber/blogger reviews high-end products, but the price is among the top three things that will determine if a product is worthwhile so I believe it's important to talk about it. Furthermore, I don't particularly think is good advice to tell you to ignore what everyone is saying just because they aren't agreeing with you. Your viewers got you where you are, so what they think does matter, for better or for worse. I do most certainly not approve of rude comments, but constructive criticism must always be taken into consideration. What really saddens me here and motivated to write such a long comment today is that those that consume Sigma products should go and express the same disgust on their wesite, social networks and blog because they're the ones that put the price tag on this ridiculous product not Emily, and they're probably going to make a lot of profit from selling out this "product". As for you Em, I've followed you for years now and will continue to do so, you've introduced me to a whole new world of inexpensive products (and some high-end as well) and I can only hope you'll continue to do so in the future. I respect your opinions but I just don't always agree with them. xx

  33. Well, everyone knows that bloggers / youtube guru's push Sigma products due to their affiliate status. So right there, the lines of honesty are drawn. Sorry, but it's true.

I'm not saying you (Emily) are dishonest, it's just the nature of the 'getting sent items for free' and 'earning a percentage of sales' from Sigma makes people question the validity of your (and everyone who chats up Sigma) opinion of their products.

I'm still happy to watch your videos and read your blog posts, but there is no way in heck I'm buying a $40 brush cleaning mit .. lol.

Anyways, I was eager to try this foundation but it was difficult to find my shade so I gave up the search. (Normally, I wear W4 in the Loreal True Match foundation, and it's my perfect shade.) But I jus wanted to try the Covergirl foundation to try something new. Ovverall, I am disappointed I couldn't find my shade.

  36. I LOVE this foundation! I've been using it everyday for a couple weeks and have nothing negative to say about it. I have combination skin and had been having trouble with my skin looking really oily by the end of the day. This foundation lasts all day on my skin and still looks great at the end of the day. I do my makeup at 5am every morning and it still looks good until the end of my day which is usually around 8 or so. I even had my mom start using it and she loves it too!

  38. Thanks for the review. I have this review in Classic Ivory and I also find that it can go on a bit dark - especially if I use my regular brush (Expert Face Brush). I like this foundation better when I apply it with my beauty sponge. The coverage is sheerer, but the it blends better and also doesn't cling to dry spots.

Thanks for all you do - your videos are my favorite ones to watch.

  39. I recently started using this foundation and I love it! My shade is Buff Beige and it matches me perfectly! Covergirl foundations tend to be too pink for me, but this works. I agree with you that it doesn't have the coverage of a concealer- so I just use a concealer with it. I have oily/combination skin and it keeps me shine-free and has great staying power. I also like that I don't have to use a powder with it because it is a matte finish. Keep up the reviews! Thanks!

Still- this has worked for a friend who was on Accutane, which dries the lips like no cold or dry weather can. Simple, cheap and accessible: Hydrocortisone ointment. Like I said, non-glam. But effective.
