Face of the Day: Peach & Plum

Hey everyone! Today I was experimenting with some new cream eyeshadows and I thought I'd share the finished look. It's really natural overall, but the eyes are kind of glam. I paired some shades I don't normally put together (tones of peach and plum... hmmm now I'm getting hungry)- and I was pleasantly surprised with the end result! Here's what I used...

Face:

-Wet n Wild Coverall Cream Foundation in Light (really enjoying the coverage of this one)
-Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser (on the under-eye area & elsewhere on the face)
-Mally Age Rebel Diamond Un-Powder in Medium (pairs coverage with a bit of a glow- reminds me of NYX Stay Matte not Flat Powder Foundation)
-Essence Sun Club Bronzer in Sunny (As a contour for cheeks & forehead)
-The Balm Blush in Hot Mama (coral with a hint of gold- gorgeous shade)

Eyes:

I didn't use any primer on the lids, but instead began with the brand new Sigma eyeshadow bases. I was sent the kit in "Dare" for review- which consists of 3 cream shadows and a brush. There are six other cream shadow colors as well from the "Bare" and "Flare" collections. The claim is that these bases are designed to enhance your existing shadows and reduce surface oil with a water-resistant, light-weight formula. I'm not ready to review these just yet (this is my first time trying them)- but it's now 8 hours after I put them on and I don't have any creasing (keep in mind- I topped them with powder shadows, which I'll explain in a minute).

Here are the bases I used from the Dare collection- Unveil (shimmery gold), Strike (shimmery burgundy), and Dash (matte plum).

The texture of these reminds me a lot of a MAC paint pot. They're kind of thin, and therefore easy to blend on the eye. I found the brush really handy as well when it comes to getting the bases evenly applied to the eyelid (the brush says "eyeshadow base" but it's very similar to a typical concealer brush). I applied the gold all over the lid, blended a little bit of the burgundy into the crease, and used the plum in the outer corner and under my eye like a liner.

Sigma shadows are pretty intense to begin with, but I do feel like these cream bases made the powder shadows pop even more. Here's what I did for the rest of the eye look...

-Sigma Dare Eyeshadow Palette (Used the 3 shades on the far left side of the palette-- Dabbed Chase, a light peach on the inner corner, used Grasp, a shimmery salmon shade all over the lid, and blended Surrender, a deep plum, in the outer corner. I once again used Grasp to blend above these shades to soften the look toward the brow bone, and used Chase again under the brow. I smudged Surrender over  the plum cream shadow on my lower lashline.)
-Essence Liquid Eyeliner (lined straight across the upper lashline
-Mally Evercolor Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Onyx (forgot to take a pic of this- put it in the waterline)
-The Balm What's Your Type Mascara- the Body Builder (on upper & lower lashes, along with Salon Perfect Demi Wispies. This mascara feels kind of heavy and tends to straighten out lashes even after they've been curled.)

Lips:

-The Balm Lipstick in Mai Billsbepaid (a matte, nude lipstick)
-NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Crystal Soda (a super shimmery, shiny gloss... a nice topper for any lipstick)

I'll keep trying out these cream shadows and test their staying power alone with no powder shadow on top. For now, as I said, they remind me a lot of MAC Paint Pots, whereas the Maybelline Color Tattoos have a bit more of a dry/thick feel. I really like the color variety, but the dome-shaped packaging is pretty bulky.

Daily Nuggets...
  • Uploading a new video for Beauty Vlogcast! About time! :)
  • Getting a headache... I didn't have coffee this morning- wonder if it's caffeine withdrawal.
  • Loving our new fully functional heating system. I've been having fun with the fully programmable thermostat (fun with the thermostat? Did I just say that? lol)
  • Got a couple of new things from Sephora thanks to a birthday gift card from my brother... plus a few new drugstore things... would you like to see a haul video?

  6. Hi Emily, wanna stop by and say this makeup "style" looks great on you. I know you love your mauves and smokies (not the sausages, lol) but you should definitely wear peachy looks more often.

  9. I love this post! It is a great way to incorporate color into an eye look without being too crazy or over the top! Can't wait for you to review the sigma eye bases because they look interesting, but I want to make sure they are good before buying them!

  10. I definitely need to try the Sigma bases. I have the Maybelline Color Tattoo in taupe and you're right, it's pretty dry, plus I get the nastiest crease with it midday. It's crazy. I'm also using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser but it makes my eyes water to no end. I'm a blinking machine every time I put it on which is a bummer because I really like the coverage it gives me.
I'm also loving the lip color, absolutely gorgeous.

  27. I love the neutral look, Emily! It's a gorgeous look, and I love the effect on your eyes with the cream eyeshadows. I'm yet to buy and use cream eyeshadows, and I'd buy the gold shimmer and dark purple one. I'd love it if you could do a video on how to get the smokey eye look, I'm finding it very hard to do
