Favorite Maybelline Eye Studio Shadows

Hey guys!
In a recent blog post I mentioned a limited edition Maybelline Eye Studio quad that I used, and it got me to thinking about the other Eye Studio palettes that I like. I thought I'd compile them into a blog post, and I chose only sets from the regular line, not limited edition ones- because I know those can sometimes be hard to track down, and before you know it, they're gone for good.

So why do I like these shadow sets? I love the soft texture and intensity of the colors. One drawback is that these only contain pearly/shimmery or metallic colors. They're beautiful colors, but it's always nice to have some matte shades to balance things out. Either way, I've created some nice looks with these palettes alone, and I really enjoy them. After Wet n Wild and a nice quad I have from Flower Beauty, these are probably some of my favorite kinds of drugstore shadows. I like to use a primer with these, and I find that I don't have to work to get the shades to show up, and the staying power is great too. These come with double ended applicators that are slightly more skinny than normal, which can be nice for smudging out shadow on the lower lashline, for example.

♥

Mad for Mauve
This one includes a pearly pink, dusty lilac, olive green, and burgundy. You can get a really pretty look with just the pinky tones in this kit, but I like that they threw in the green. It can give a fun unexpected pop on the lower lashline, or even all over the lid.

Coral Oasis
There are so many reasons why I love this kit! Everything from the light peach to the dark brown is beautiful and they work wonderfully together. I love going with a pop of coral on the lid, and using that yellowish-green shade around the inner corner. It might sound unusual, but it's a great little quad! Especially as we head into spring/summer.

Color Explosion: Caffeine Rush
Same formula and feel as the quads, just a different configuration and five shades instead of four. I'm not a big fan of the way this is put together because the V-shaped shadow isn't very wide, sometimes making it tricky when using brushes. But color-wise, this palette is a taupe-lover's dream. The top shade has a light golden sparkle, but the others come off with a pearly finish. Great for natural looks, but yet the slight shine that these shades have makes the look kind of special/different.

Have you used these Eye Studio shadows? This particular line seems to produce limited edition palettes on a regular basis, and I like several of those too! Just wanted to give you a round-up of what I like in terms of what's always available. Thanks for reading! :)

Daily Nuggets...
  • Did a Skype Q&A session with a college class at Western Illinois University this afternoon... talked about TV news, YouTube, social media... they had some great questions! I actually had my camera rolling throughout, so I may make it into a vlog.
  • Excited for tomorrow's Beauty Broadcast Live! 9am Central on Ustream
  • Cupcake gets to make a visit to the vet tomorrow to get some routine shots. That's not gonna be fun! She's not a fan of the pet taxi.

  1. I haven't tried these yet, because I was afraid of glitter overload. I think I may get the limited edition one now. Great post idea, love it!

  2. I have only purchased one of the quads and sadley it is not as pigmented as the ones you listed! Do you think the eye stuido eyeshadows are hit or miss or did I just get a bad batch?

  3. They look amazing! I have the lilac one and it's beautiful :) I would love to see a tutorial on the coral palette, it's just gorgeous but I'm not sure how I would put a look together, would love to see how you would use it :)

  7. I've always eyed these at the drugstore, but never bought one because I wasn't sure about the quality, but I actually love shimmery shadows. I have a $1 off any Maybelline cosmetic coupon, so I'll probably be picking one of these quads up! All of your favorites look so beautiful! Thanks for this post!

  8. I have to warn anyone interested in buying these....I've never really had issues with my eyes being sensitive, but I bought a few of those quads & they made my eyes feel itchy and looked red and even felt a burning sensation. So I recommend buying only one and test it before you buy multiples....so you don't have the problem I had!

  10. I had some of these and I gave them away except for Olive Martini (LE). I couldn't get the shadow to "stick" even with primer, and the color that did apply disappeared within a few hours. Shame because the colors were pretty. I gave them to my little sister, but she had the same issues. I guess you had a different experience with these.

  13. I used to have purple icon, but I didn't love the pigmentation, so I returned it. I was looking for true purples that actually look the same on the eyes, but they weren't as purple as I wanted and the lilac shade looked like a cream color.
I also have the quad in taupe temptress and I love it!! I am a fan of taupe and was looking for a burgundy, so that palette gave me everything I needed! :)

  14. my all time favorite maybelline eye shadow trio is bronze glitz...its 3 beautiful bronzey colors that remind me of the sunset...one is a pale yellow hilight, the other is a dark gold and the third is a reddish gold...unfortunately they discontinued them :(

  28. I have loved the color plush quads for years, even before I was serious about makeup. UD has reformulated their shadows, but back in the day I found these to be the next best thing, and they had nowhere near the fallout. I would be curious to see an in depth "dupe" comparison. Mad About Mauve was my go-to everyday shadow for years, it is the only quad I have ever used completely and repurchased multiple times, and when Coral Oasis came out I wore it for a week straight, both of them are so flattering for green eyes. Other favorites (not including LE, last fall's LE were amazing) are Copper Chic, Green with Envy, and Taupe Temptress. Purple Icon is also great, but may be hard for some to wear, you just have to be careful with color placement.. the white is very frosty and it is a very cool toned palette. There were a few "duds" in the earlier shades that had pigmentation issues.. some people have been seeing these particular shades at outlet stores lately so I believe they have been discontinued.

Caffeine Rush is the only color explosion palette I own, and while it has beautiful colors I find them to be too similar to each other to do a well defined look all together. I feel you really need to pick and choose between them for the best results.

I also own a ton of the "regular" collection eyeshadows and I find them wonderful everyday shadows. Lots more satin and matte shades, with really beautiful wearable color combinations. They do not look like much in the pan but are very flattering on the eye. I think Maybelline shadows in general are highly underrated.

  29. A tip for the "put the cat in the box" problem... set the box down on it's back, with the door facing up. Put the cat in, shut the door, then put the box right side up. You might need to put her in "tail first" that also helps if she tends to brace with her paws on the opening of the box.

  32. I went to Walmart today to try and get some of these and they were sold out of them all. Actually, they were sold out on just about all of their cosmetics, except Drew Barrymore's which they just added. So maybe next time they will have stocked some. I hope!

  37. If you like the coral palette, you should try the Wet n Wild palette in the Fergie collection called Desert Festival (A029). It has some nice corals and browns. I have it and experimented with it - nice pigmentation. Not sure of the wear time since I haven't worn it a full day yet.

  38. Caffeine Rush is one of my all time fave go-to pallets. The configuration of the colors is annoying but the quality and color payoff are really good. I use it almost every second day. LOVEEEEEE!

  41. There is ridiculously buy wow gold high demand for rare and epic items and no one quite has enough time to build up the bank to buy them. So, with so many players in the game and so much demand for items in a limited space, players can charge as much gold as they want. For those that would rather enjoy the game and not spend their time farming gold, it might seem easier to simply buy 100 gold offline and use it to buy what you need wow power leveling in gold. May be you have spend a lot of time building up your account. Also the theft is a major risk. Most of all, you're risking the compromise of the entire game by buying gold from farmers that destroy the economy by overharvesting.Once your account have been deleted both time and money are not valuable. And you are losing a lot of your game life. If you want to continue playing the World of Warcraft game, you should have to buy a new account. Not only that, but you're giving your credit card number wow gold tips away to an unknown entity who will supposedly deliver gold to you in game.
