Hi everyone! I have another Milani Color Statement lipstick collection to share with you! First it was Reds & Oranges, then Pinks & Corals, now Naturals & Browns. The plum/berry shades will be next. This collection is really interesting because it includes some really wearable shades- and some really un-wearable shades (at least for me, personally). But I think it really depends on your skin tone. As with the other collections, there are a variety of finishes here, and whether it's a light shade or a dark shade- it's important to note that these colors are NOT sheer. Each and every one is very opaque, and they apply very smoothly. As I've said before, they don't dry out my lips- but at the same time, they don't feel overly slick on the lips... therefore the staying power is very good. They have a scent that I'd describe as lightly sweet.
Left to right: Naturally Chic, Nude Creme, Dulce Caramelo, Teddy Bare, Candied Toffees, Bronze Beauty, D'oro, Chocolate Berries, Double Espresso.
25 Naturally Chic (Cream)
Such a great natural lip color. It's creamy, therefore there is no shimmer- just a little bit of shine. The best word to describe this shade is "appropriate". I don't think you could go wrong with this shade for work, church, school, job interview, whatever. It's got enough depth to give your face a bit of a boost, but not so dark that it seems unnatural. Love it!
26 Nude Creme (Cream)
For those who saw the first shade and thought- I'd like to go a little bit lighter... here you go! I love the amount of pink in this nude color... and the fact that it's not "baby" pink- but a more mature pink. I think it looks really fresh and I'll be wearing this one a lot with everyday, natural looks... but wouldn't this be stunning with a charcoal grey smokey eye too? That might be my Friday night "going out" look tomorrow.
27 Dulce Caramelo (Pearl)
And welcome to my third favorite! Unlike the first two, this one has a pearly finish-- and I must say, well done, Milani! It's definitely not too frosty but does just what I want a pearl finish to do, which is softly catch the light. It's another shade that is just so wearable, and workable in a variety of scenarios where you want natural-looking makeup. This is a really similar tone to the first lipstick, but the shimmer makes it come off a little lighter on the lips.
29 Teddy Bare (Cream)
Now we're starting to see some brown. If you like a deeper neutral, this might be for you. It's a bit more brown than I normally like to wear, but yet I don't feel like it's sucking the life out of my face, which is good. It reminds me of a lot of those lip colors or lip liners that are named "spice". It's neutral plus depth plus warmth. For me, it's a "like" but not a LOVE. As with the other Creams, the color applied smoothly with no shimmer.
30 Candied Toffees (Metallic)
This shade was my little surprise. Some colors I immediately thought- love it! Others I thought- umm, no. But this one kind of made me think. I didn't love the brownish-copper vibe I was getting from the lipstick in the tube- but on my lips I actually think it looks quite nice. It has a little reddish warmth to it that I like. While the creamy formulas are kind of "what you see is what you get"- the pearl or metallic formulas come off a little bit differently as they interact with the light on your lips. So again, I like this one, but I'm not in love with it.
31 Bronze Beauty (Shimmer)
The camera definitely tamed this shade a bit. It has a TON of golden shimmer and as I looked at myself in the mirror, it was very apparent. It really looked like my lips were a little bronze disco ball. When you're describing a lipstick's finish- sometimes the words shimmer, pearl, or metallic are practically interchangeable... but with Milani, apparently "shimmer" is the most glittery of them all. This is actually the first shimmer finish that I've had out of all the categories. Again, the full amount of sparkle isn't really showing here, but I think it looks very dated in person.
35 D'oro (Metallic)
Hello! I have gold lips! What more should I say? It's a metallic, bronzy-gold lipstick. It seems to really show all the lines in my lips. It makes me look kinda crazy.
37 Chocolate Berries (Cream)
When I first looked at this, I thought it'd be a really pretty shade on darker skin tones, but I actually kind of like the way it looks on me too! It's definitely got some brown in it, but I really like how some reddish tones are coming through. When I look at it in the packaging, it practically looks purple- so definitely an interesting color, and I think it was perfectly named.
38 Double Espresso (Pearl)
Dark brown lipstick with a pearly finish- not something I see myself reaching for, for may be beautiful on a skin tone that it won't has as much contrast with. I don't think this does anything for my skin, but it does make me look rather mysterious! What do you think? Could you see yourself wearing this lip color?
There you go! Again, some of the most wearable- and unwearable shades of all of the Color Statement collections I've tried so far. But keep in mind- what one person sees as unnatural or unwearable, another person with a different preference or skin tone might love it! So go for what YOU love! For me, my favorites are Naturally Chic, Nude Creme, and Dulce Caramelo. They're very "safe" colors, but really pretty and have a wonderful formula. Thanks for taking time to check out this post!
- Uploading a long vlog that I shot yesterday! Includes a recipe!
- I have been looking at a computer too long today!
- I'd like to apologize again about today's Beauty Broadcast Live. Google+ was an experiment and I wasn't sure how it was going to go. Turns out 10 people at a time got to watch! I thought selecting "public" meant an unlimited broadcast, but obviously not. I'll keep you posted on the next one through Twitter & Facebook, as usual.
- If you have a question you'd like to ask Tyler, he's having sort of a "live forum" at 6:30pm central time on Beauty Broadcast Community. Just go to the site and click "forum", then "off-topic"-- and he'll have a discussion set up at that time. This isn't a video thing, just a message board thing. Should be fun! :)
