Face of the Day: Red Lips & Classic Eyes

Hi everyone!
When I decided I would try out my new red Lip Butter... and experiment with the "Hot Buns" hair tool on the same day, I promise it wasn't my intention to recreate the Robert Palmer backup dancer look from the Addicted to Love video...

Well the eyes aren't quite a smokey and the lips aren't as glossy! :) But basically, this is a pretty classic look and I've had some questions recently about what kind of blush and eyeshadow to pair with red lips. You could really go quite bare on the eyes and still look "finished", but I did choose to define them  with liner and add some understated shadow. And the cheeks are kept pretty subtle- no major pop of color there, just a little peachy boost. Here's what I used to get the look!

 Face products...
-Cover Girl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation (Buff Beige) - I applied this with my Soho Blender sponge from Walgreens. I dampened the sponge and it gave the foundation a more natural look.
-Cover Girl + Olay Concealer Balm (Fair/Light)
-MAC Prep+Prime Highlighter (Light Boost) -on top of cheekbones
-ELF High Definition Undereye Setting Powder - this actually has glitter in it. In person it does make my undereye area appear somewhat shiny. not a big fan of this.
-Bare Minerals Ready Foundation (Medium Beige) - Applied lightly all over
-NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer (Sunny)
-Cover Girl Clean Glow Blush (Peaches)

Eye Products...
-Wet n Wild Fergie Eye Primer
-ELF Studio Brow Kit (Medium)
-Milani Powder Eyeshadow (Pearl) -all over lid & highlight under brow
-Milani Powder Eyeshadow (Brown Stone) -blended in outer part of crease & smudged under the outer part of lower lashline
-Essence Liquid Eyeliner (Black) -upper lashline
-NYX Slide On Liner (Jet Black) -lower waterline
-L'oreal Power Volume Collagen Mascara -I was watching MissCrystalMakeup's April Favorites and she mentioned loving this mascara after it dried out a bit. I remembered, hey, I have that mascara! Definitely like it better than I did when I first got it. Thanks Crystal!

Lip Products...
-Revlon Lip Butter (Wild Watermelon) -New shade!! I LOVE it. Such a juicy red, and not as heavy/opaque as most of my red lipsticks. The star of this look!
-NYX Retractable Lip Liner (Red) -didn't fill in the lips with this color- just added a little extra definition after applying the Lip Butter.

As far as the "Hot Buns" (I showed them in this haul video), it was super easy to use. I used the larger of the two sizes, and just rolled my hair up in it and snapped it together- no problem! I was really impressed because I have layers in my hair and this seemed to really roll up the hair without any ends sprouting out. The one thing that I didn't understand (maybe it was just my mistake?) but there's a little elastic band that you wrap around the bun to hold it all in place. I don't know if I just wasn't grabbing for the right piece (couldn't see what I was doing, obviously), but it seemed way too tiny to wrap around this giant bun. So I used my own elastic to wrap around. The whole thing feels very secure and I like the size. Have you tried Hot Buns? What did you think? (the hair tool, not the pastry :)

Cute Accessories from Forever 21

Hello out there! :)
I've gotten some great stuff from Forever 21 recently. I have a couple of high-low dresses that I love (I think I'll show those in a video), as well as some super cute accessories! I really can't get over their prices on jewelry. I realize it's probably not the highest quality stuff around... but I love just having a wide variety in my collection and I really love a bargain. Especially cute bargains!

Love these dangly turquoise earrings! They're really lightweight (I hate heavy earrings), and I like how the greenish-turquoise has gold-tone hardware, and the blue-turquoise has silver. These were each $1.50!

Love me some studs!! Ok now let's talk about earrings. Hehe ;) I saw these little gold wishbones and thought they were adorable!! They make me think of my childhood. When mom was cooking she'd always save the wishbones and we'd snap them- whoever got the bigger part won :) And these silvery studs are so basic. They kind of look like dark pearls, yet they also give off a steel vibe as well. The wishbones were $1.80 and the silver ones were $1.50.

How cute are these?!? Love the rosy & lilac colors in these earrings. I think they'll look great with pastel shirts/dresses I have. These were a little more pricey than the others at $3.80, but still a great deal,  in my opinion!

You'll probably be seeing me accessorize my hair with these! Love the clip in flowers. So feminine and fun! You could also easily make something like this yourself as a DIY project. But these were only $2.80 for the set of three.

Just wanted to share that little haul with you! Where do you like to shop for accessories? I have a lot of jewelry from Claire's and Kohl's... but I really haven't found deals as good as Forever 21's!

Daily Nuggets...
  • I've had kind of a busy day (shooting, editing, Ladies' Home Journal writing, grocery shopping), but all activity came to a stand-still for an hour when the cast of Mad Men was on Katie this afternoon! Wish there would've been more time to hear more from each of the cast members... but it was still great!
  • I also bopped into Dollar Tree since I've gotten some reports of good makeup items there. Mine had some Milani lip liners, ELF brushes, and some random palettes from Profusion and L.A. Colors, but beyond that- not too much. I did get some seeds & pots for flowers I'm going to plant... and some random stuff like paper plates, Kleenex, and Rubbermaid containers.
  • Tyler's mom made a brief visit over the weekend. I made a no-bake Jello Strawberry Cheesecake (that stuff is seriously good), but the highlight of cheesecake for me is always the graham cracker crust. Pup- if you're reading this, do you remember when we made a graham cracker crust just for the heck of it when I was a kid?
  • Time to make dinner! It's a tilapia and salad night. And I am very hungry. I leave you with this cute pic of Cupcake- moments before she completely stretched out in the sunbeams this morning!

This Just In: Bare Minerals Feel the Love Collection

Hey everyone!
TGIF!! I just went to the mailbox and look what I found! I ordered this kit last Saturday- it was the Today's Special Value on QVC, and it just looked too good to pass up! It's the Bare Minerals Feel the Love collection. It contains full-size makeup products and a couple of brushes that convert into double-ended brushes! This isn't a full review by any means, but more of a quick haul! :) The set comes with the following products...

-Bare Minerals Ready Foundation- This is the only color you choose with this kit, and then they give you the corresponding shades of concealer and brightener. My foundation is in Medium Beige. I've heard some really good things about the Ready foundation, but this will be my first time trying it. It was the main reason why I wanted to get this kit. Excited!
-Bare Minerals Ready Blush/Luminizer in The Love Letter/The Daydream- This is a mauve blush and a pretty pink/golden highlight. Never tried the Ready blushes either. Such a nice large size!
-Bare Minerals Concealer - Summer Bisque- Here's a product that I know and love! I'm a big fan of Bisque, Summer Bisque, and Well-Rested... a small amount of these loose mineral concealers go a long way and can add so much coverage to any concealer. Used sparingly around the eyes- these are great! Summer Bisque is a good match for my skin, but I'll also use Well Rested for added brightness in the inner corners of my eyes.
-Stroke of Light- Luminous 2- This is another product I've tried, but I have it in one shade lighter. It's designed to be an eye brightener, but I find that it makes a nice all-purpose highlighting product anywhere on the face. Glad to have a second shade to experiment with.
-Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Starlet- This gloss smells like mint chocolate chip! :) You feel a bit of a minty coolness on the lips and it's very shiny. I got one of these not too long ago in a QVC Beauty Test Tube. This pink looks gorgeous!
-2 in 1 Face/Concealer Brush & 2 in 1 Cheek/Eye Brush- I LOVE this concept because I REALLY dislike double-ended brushes! They're so hard to store without smooshing one end! So these brushes actually come apart- and the smaller end goes inside the larger part!

Why hasn't anyone thought of this innovation sooner?! The fit is really secure too. When you snap them into double-ended mode, I don't feel like one end is going to fly off. The brushes are really soft, and while you don't get an eyeshadow product in this particular kit, it's cool that there is a really dense eye brush included. Awesome concept for travel also.

Here's a closer look at the blush/luminizer and the gloss.

I already had my makeup done, but I just threw on the gloss for the heck of it. Love the shine! Are these Marvelous Moxie glosses supposed to be plumping? It feels so nice and cool on the lips. No annoying tingle.

Just wanted to show you what I'll be experimenting with! Did you order this kit? What do you think of the Bare Minerals Ready collection? I really love the Ready eyeshadows, and I also have the Ready Tinted Touch Up Veil, which is really nice. It's been awhile since I've used my loose Bare Minerals, but this kit kind of makes me want to get back into the brand again. Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful weekend! :)

Face of the Day: VERY Girly

 Hi guys!
Beauty Broadcast Live was so fun this morning! #thankyouforbeingafriend :) I had lots of questions about the makeup I was wearing, so I thought I'd do a "Face of the Day" post about it. As soon as I put on my "I Love Makeup" shirt- I felt the need to go with pink and purple! It's fun, bright, and may be a bit much for some peoples' taste. But I've been wearing a lot of neutrals lately, so I figured, heck- go big or go home! :) Here's what I used...

 Face Products...
-Cover Girl Whipped Creme Foundation (#325 Buff Beige) *Review coming soon!!*
-MAC Pro Longwear Concealer (NW20)
-Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder (Golden)
-Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
-Flower Beauty Blush/Bronzer Duo (Gloriously Golden- just used the blush)

Eye Products...
This is my biggest palette! It's the 252 Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette from Coastal Scents. There are three separate palettes that lift out, and I used the one with pinks & purples. I first applied my Wet n Wild Fergie eyeshadow primer.

Step 1: Apply the shimmery medium pink all over the lid. (I also used a bit of white around the tear duct, but forgot to identify that shade on the palette).
Step 2: Apply the matte purple on the outer part of the lid, and blend into the crease, pulling the color upward and out slightly to create the "outer V"
Step 3: With a tiny bit of the bright pink on a brush, blend above the purple crease shade, creating a "halo" of pink that will be visible when the eye is open.
Step 4: Using a smudge brush, blend the shimmery purple under the eye from inner to outer corner.

More eye products!
-I used Milani Ultrafine Liquid Eyeliner in Black Vinyl across the upper lashline, creating a slight wing.
-I used Tarte EmphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener on my waterline.
-Topped off the look with Cover Girl's new Flamed Out mascara (review is coming soon!)
-Also wearing false lashes- Eylure Katy Perry colllection in Oh Honey!

Lip Products...
-Tarte Glamazon Lipstick in Whimsy
-Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pink Pop

Hope you enjoyed this look! It's always fun to play around with those huge palettes because the options seem endless! Sometimes people say they are too overwhelming. If you feel that way, when choosing shades, pretend like you're building your own quad or trio. Don't feel like you need to use a dozen different shades on your eye just because dozens of shades are there. Just concentrate on picking light, medium, and dark colors that you think would look good together. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to determine what truly does look good together... but that's the fun of makeup! Don't like it? Just wash it off! :) Would you like to see more "paint by number" makeup posts like this with large palettes?

Daily Nuggets...

Hautelook Heads Up: Tarte

Hey guys!
Apparently I wasn't paying attention to my Hautelook email updates, because I didn't realize Tarte was being featured on the site today! Thanks to Pamela @twostep271 for tweeting me about it! :) If you're new to my blog- here's what's going on. Hautelook is a site that features various brands at discounted prices. If a brand is on there that I'm familiar with, I thought it would be helpful to do a blog post with my feedback on some of the things being offered. Over the past couple of months I've done these kinds of posts for Laura Geller & NYX. Even when these brands aren't being offered on the Hautelook, hopefully these mini reviews are still helpful to you! :)

My recommendations...
I'm a big fan of the Tarte lash primer- you can use it with any mascara to get added length and thickness, and it doesn't make the lashes feel stiff & brittle! Here you also get Lights Camera Lashes-- a classic from Tarte's line. It's really good about giving you the look of more lashes without turning into a clumpy mess. Good stuff in this duo!

Ok, here is my absolute favorite mascara from Tarte. In my opinion- this is Lights Camera Lashes kicked up a notch. I notice even more length with the Amazonian Clay Gifted mascara. This also comes with a double ended Smolder Eyes- which is like a smudgy jumbo shadow stick. I really like the Smolder Eyes that I have, but I don't own this particular one being featured. If you're trying to decide between this duo and the first one... I kind of lean toward the first. You're getting a great mascara and a primer that you'll probably use a lot. With this, yes you have an outstanding mascara, but there are a lot of products on the market similar to the jumbo pencil.

This is not a trio- these are 3 separate items for sale- but I figured I'd show them all. I LOVE tarte Lipsurgence! Hydrating jumbo lip pencils. I have a lot of shades and really enjoy almost all of them... however I haven't tried any of these shades that are being sold on Hautelook right now. There are different varieties of Lipsurgence, and these are the "hydrating lip cremes". I'm intrigued! Thinking about getting one or two of these bad boys.

Do you need some eyeshadow? I did a big blog review with swatches back when this kit first came out.  I like that it contains 3 separate compacts (they're not just open palettes- they shut), so you can just toss them in a makeup bag & they don't take up much room. They also contain cheek colors and all of the shadows are full-sized. If you like neutrals & plums- this is right up your alley. Variety of matte & shimmer. If you expect Urban Decay-ish brights and wild shades- this doesn't have that going on. I must admit-- I do not use the little silver clutch that these snap into for "on the go" use. I pretty much never touch up my eyeshadow when I'm on the go, so it's kind of unnecessary for me. But 3 separate palettes of shadow? I like that very much. There's a gloss too!

 My "maybe" products...
Here's a situation where I like both of these products-- but I don't own them in the particular shades being offered. I have one of these little boxes of shadows in purple tones and I was really impressed with how pigmented the shadows were. This looks like a nice basic kit that could give you a smokey eye! As I mentioned up top, I do enjoy the Smolder Eyes! I don't have this shade, but it looks like it would coordinate nicely with the shadows.

I have this disc! It's very pretty and summery. If you love bronzy shadows- this is awesome, and I like the pop of teal. The drawback for some is that every product in this palette is shimmery. The blush is downright glittery... granted, not a lot of glitter seems to show up on my face when I use it, but some does and I'm not a huge fan of glittery blushes. I don't think the discount on this is that great, but again the shades are pretty. Just not any variety in finishes.

I put this on my maybe list... I think this is a great price for 5 glosses! But I don't have these particular colors so I can't really vouch for how they come off on the lips. I have a lot of other Maracuja glosses- and I LOVE the shine! A lot of my lighter shades are somewhat sheer, but I have some great colors that really pop. This set looks like a mix of both. I've heard some people say that these glosses are too sticky. I personally don't think it's a problem to the point of being annoying, and a little stickiness to the gloss does help the staying power. Just my 2 cents! :)

A few more notes... I haven't tried the Maracuja cheek tint with the pump so I can't share any info on that. I also haven't used the Brow Mousse or Lumizing Wands. The Cheek Stains (in the big sticks)- are nice for fresh color, but there is quite a bit of moisture in these. If a dewy appearance is what you want- you might like them, but I don't really like the moist texture they leave on the face. Hope this post was helpful for you! Happy shopping! :)

My Lil MAC Haul

Happy Monday everyone!
Thought I'd share a little MAC haul with you. A couple weeks ago I got on the MAC website for one reason, and of course felt compelled to try a few other things. It's actually been quite awhile since I've made any sort of MAC purchase. I think MAC has great products-- (Pro Longwear foundation/concealer, eyeshadows, lipsticks, etc.), but I'm not really a MAC-aholic. I don't tend to pounce on new collections.

What drew me to the site to begin with was this product- the Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost. I'd heard some rave reviews on this, so I thought I'd give it a go. I don't think I've ever actually tried anything from MAC's Prep + Prime line (gasp!) I was intrigued by this highlight because of it's yellow tone... it seems like most of my highlighting pens/cream products have a pink tone and usually some shimmer. I like that this seems to brighten- but it does so through it's color, not because of sparkle/shimmer. I've used this a few times under the eyes and anywhere else on the face I want to highlight. I like it, but I do feel the need to wear a little concealer with this too. It's not so much a coverage product as it is a brightener. I'll keep experimenting with the best ways to use this.

I really enjoy a good MAC lip product every now and then! I also love their light vanilla-ish scent. I'm loving pinks right now so here's what I picked out (swatched from left to right): Sunny Seoul Cremesheen lipstick (shown above in the silver tube), Viva Glam Nicki satin-finish lipstick, and Viva Glam Nicki Lipglass.

In this pic I'm wearing Sunny Seoul. I LOVE this color! First off, I love the cremesheens... of all of the MAC lipsticks I own, most are in that formula. They're creamy, not at all dry, and just feel good on the lips. I was surprised I didn't already have this one! It has a little shimmer and when I wear it sheer, I notice the slightest bit of a coral tone. When I build it up a bit more (like in the pic above)- more of the pink comes through. Beautiful shade!

Here I'm wearing the Viva Glam Nicki lipstick and lipglass. I'm pretty sure I've seen Nicki Minaj sporting her signature lipstick on Idol more than a few times (reminds me of Milani's Color Statement Lipstick in Fruit Punch!), and I just felt the need to get it! This satin-finish lipstick has a lot more color to it than Sunny Seoul- it's very opaque. The coordinating gloss really kicks up the look! A couple days ago I just wore the gloss alone for this overall color, but a more sheer look on the lips.

Overall I'm very happy with what I got! Loving all of the lip products- and I especially think I'm going to get lots of use out of Sunny Seoul. I'll continue working with the Prep + Prime highlight and keep you posted on how that goes! :)

Daily Nuggets...

Review: L'oreal Colour Caresse by Colour Riche

Hi everyone!
Another quick drugstore review for you today! Smooth, lightweight, lip balm-ish lipsticks seem to be the trend among drugstore brands. L'oreal has a couple of versions... something called Colour Riche Balm (tried one of these and wasn't a big fan), and also these more lipstick-like products called Colour Caresse by Colour Riche. Kind of like L'oreal's response to Revlon's Lip Butters. The brand claims that these are glossy lip colors with a lightweight feel. They come in 16 shades, and the ones I picked up are  Pink Cashmere (top two pics), and Rose Taffeta (bottom two pics). Color-wise, I think they're really pretty. You can see these two shades are actually quite similar... Rose Taffeta is just a bit deeper.

While I think these colors look pretty, my one concern is the way they feel on the lips. I was mentioning on Beauty Broadcast Live this morning- they feel kind of greasy. I'm not a fan of overly sticky lip products either, but sometimes when the formula feels too thin and doesn't quite grab the lips... you have to wonder if it's running outside your lip line. When I wear products like Revlon Lip Butters, Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Sticks, Maybelline Color Whispers or even Maybelline Baby Lips... something about those formulas isn't quite as slick. While they have some shine, they don't feel as if they're about to slide off the lips.

Final thoughts...
I really do love the trend of more comfortable lipsticks that can look shiny and feel moisturizing. This line from L'oreal isn't my favorite from the vast array of drugstore options, but they're not terrible either. The shades I have are very pretty, and I must say, Rose Taffeta is really growing on me. Doesn't it seem like one of those super-wearable shades that would work with just about anything? Still, while the shades are light and shiny, they're a little greasy and don't have very good staying power as a result. What do you think of these? Thanks for reading! :)

Review: Maybelline Master Duo Liquid Liner

Hi guys!
Just a quick review on some liquid liner I've been playing with lately. It's the Maybelline Master Duo. I have it in a deep blue shade called Navy Gleam. Why is this one liner being called a "duo"? The tip has a slightly round, yet flat "ball" at the end. When you turn it one way, you get a thicker line, and when you rotate the wand 90 degrees, you'll get a thin line. Hopefully this picture explains it-- and I apologize for the lesser quality... my other camera is charging.
Top left: the flat disk side of the liner, Top right: the wider line that it creates.
Lower left: wand is rotated to show a thinner tip, Lower right: the thin line it makes.

What I like...
-I'm pretty comfortable using most forms of liquid liner, but something about the little nub on the tip of this one makes it even easier to apply. Maybe that's because the wide line is less precise & doesn't seem to require as much effort to get a straight line.
-I like the thought that you can get two looks in one eyeliner
-I like the color of this Navy liner. It's a nice shade of deep blue... sometimes the navy liners are too close to black.

What I don't like...
-The formula. You must shake this up well, otherwise you will get an extremely thin, watery look to the liner. But even when I do shake it up (which I did before photographing the swatches), I found it to be somewhat thin compared to other liquid liners I've used.
-When I do another layer over the liner to get more full color, I also get a somewhat glossy finish (it was advertised this way). Just personal preference, but I don't like when liners (especially what's used on my upper lashline) have a shine to them... I prefer a matte finish because it tends to look very even & perfect.
-It takes very little moisture for this liner to wear off. It is not a waterproof formula by any means.

Final thoughts: I think this product is a good concept, but I don't love the formula. If this had a slightly thicker formula, I think it would be great. I'm kind of curious to try the black... maybe it could be a bit different in consistency compared to my navy? I will not wear this on a day when tears/watery eyes are a concern... it smudges too easily. That could also be a problem for those who deal with eyeliner transferring onto the lid or other parts of the eye. Again, I think the applicator is a cool design. When you turn it to the thin side, it can create a nice wing, but when you feel the need to add another layer due to the thin formula, it can be a bit of a challenge to make the wing look perfect and effortless.

Daily Nuggets...

Rediscovered Favorite! ELF Custom Quads

Hi everyone!
I definitely had an "a-ha" moment while shopping my stash this morning. I forgot how much I LOVE these super affordable ELF Custom Eyes compacts. I remember when these first came out and you could get eyeshadows, lip colors, and cheek colors (each $1), and fill the empty quad ($1) however you wanted to.

Well now it appears that only the eyeshadows are available this way- but they're still at the same really good price, and they've expanded the amount of colors that are available (as you can see from the screenshot above, taken from the ELF website). It was years ago when I first bought mine, and now I remember why I did. The shadows are really pigmented & nice quality. And the palettes could also store your MAC shadows, Coastal Scents hot pots, or anything else of that size! (A magnet on the back of the shadow pan is needed-- these ELF shadows come with magnets on the back).

Again, you buy the palette separately for $1 (which has an excellent mirror inside), and it'll come with four empty spaces. Select whatever shadows you want (they'll come individually packaged), and then pop them into your palette!

My palette is made up of some basic neutral/smokey shades. The swatches from left to right are Ivory, Moondust, Dusk, and Mocha.

For this look (which I did very quickly), I just applied Ivory around the inner corner, Moondust all over the lid, Dusk in the outer corner, and blended Mocha as sort of a transition color just above the crease. Then I used Ivory again under the brow. I smudged Moondust on the lower lashline, and also added Dusk to the outer part of the lower lashline. I used a navy liquid liner on my upper lashline, black pencil liner in the waterline, and finished off with mascara on the top & bottom lashes, along with Salon Perfect Demi Wispies False Lashes. In case you were wondering, I'm wearing the Maybelline Color Whisper in Petal Rebel on my lips.

There you go! The next time I order from ELF, I plan to pick up a few more of these shades. I can either get another ELF compact to put them in, or add them to a Z-palette! I've also run across these singles in Target, but I don't think they carry the full selection of shades. Have you tried the ELF Custom Eyes? Do you have any favorite colors?

Daily Nuggets...
  • I'm vlogging throughout the day today for my vlog channel. As usual, it'll be very random and not terribly exciting. :)
  • Cupcake has finally calmed down after her rampage around the living room.
  • Got caught up on Sunday's Mad Men last night. If I had a dime for every time I exclaimed, "Geez Don!!" during that episode!
  •  Had a strange dream last night that was set back in the Mad Men era (1960's). I was waiting on an elevator and apparently it was my fault that the elevator was taking a really long time and I was getting yelled at and scowled at.
  • Prior to that, I had a dream that I worked at Bath & Body Works, and it was my job to demonstrate the products in a bathtub in the middle of the store. Everyone else thought this was totally normal. I, however, was very embarrassed. LOL!

Get to Know Me: The Beauty Blogger Tag!

Hey everyone!
I was on Twitter yesterday and came across a tweet from fellow blogger Lacey about blog tags! She did this one on her blog, Lacey's Beauty Reviews, and asked if I knew of any other tags. I haven't noticed a whole lot of these on blogs (or I've forgotten to save links from what I have seen), but they seem like fun so if you want to shoot me or Lacey a link of a blog tag to try, feel free! Meanwhile- you should definitely give Lacey's blog a look. She has really in-depth reviews on a variety of makeup products. She knows her stuff when it comes to makeup, but she's also really good at expressing it in her writing. Now let's get started with the tag!

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?
My hair is naturally VERY straight. It's also very fine, so when I do nothing to it, it tends to hang quite flat to my head. My preferred style when I'm just wearing my hair down is to throw in some velcro rollers to add volume.

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
It's just my natural color right now. The last thing I did to my hair color-wise was probably about a year and a half ago, and it was semi-permanent Clairol Natural Instincts... I believe the shade was Ebony Mocha and it's just a tad bit darker than my natural color. I felt like it added some texture to my fine hair, but now that I've gone so long without it, I guess I don't really see the need. Who knows, I might try it again at some point... but I never stray from my natural hair color very much. Fun fact:  I've never had my hair cut or colored in a salon... my mom is a former cosmetologist so she has always handled any of my hair-related needs!

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?
I love changing up my hair. I do have a go-to look (velcro rollers), but I also love throwing it up into a bun, a ponytail, etc. That's part of why I like having long hair- it allows me to have some variety with how I style it.

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?
Just like I've never been to a salon for my hair, I've also never had my nails done in a salon. I think it's the way I was raised LOL. My mom was always so capable with these kinds of things, I think I just thought everyone out there could be a do-it-yourselfer. Not that there's not a lot of great talent out there in the salons (I'm sure there is)... I'm just comfortable doing it myself. For months I used Mally's at-home gel nail system, and that's probably my favorite thing because of how well it lasts for 2+ weeks. But lately I've been experimenting with some other fun spring colors & designs.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?
When it's just a regular polish, I pretty much have to do it weekly because of chipping. When I use Mally gel nails I'll have it on for 2 and a half or 3 weeks with no problem. The only thing that makes me feel the need to change it then is the fact that my nails grow out a bit.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?
I tend to have them done in the winter, but I switch it up way more in the summer. Sometimes I do the Mally gel nails on my toes! :) All in all, I don't do my toes as often as I do my nails.

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?
If you keep up with my videos you know I was (barely) able to pull it off in 5 minutes... but I prefer to take much more time. I don't like being rushed in general when I'm getting ready! On average, I probably take 35 minutes to do my makeup. Sometimes more if I'm paying special attention to new products or techniques I'm trying, and sometimes less if it's a more low-maintenance look. Either way, it's an enjoyable and relaxing process for me.

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?
I do my face first. I suppose it's just the way I'm most comfortable doing it, and when my face is looking nice and even, I guess it just sets the stage for what I'll do on my eyes. If I started with my face not done, for some reason I think I'd over-compensate and do too much on my eyes. Who knows!

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
This made me laugh out loud :) I'm a collector! Blogging/video making is my life-- I'm always trying new things. For that reason, I don't consider myself a typical makeup user. I do feel like my large collection has really been my education... trying lots of products translates into knowledge and the ability to make lots of comparisons. Sometimes people criticize that, but I look at it this way.... would you be critical of a carpenter who has a lot of tools? (okay... off my soapbox now :)

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
Very often! I'd say I wear them several times a week, and pretty much always on special occasions. I never knew how before I started really getting into making YouTube videos. And it did take me a long time to feel comfortable putting them on and wearing them. Now- it's like second nature. I love big drag queen lashes!

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?
Most of the time, yes. Some days it's a lighter look than others, but I usually have at least something on my eyes, lips, and face.

12. Do you wear makeup when you're home alone or with family?
Yep! My career now kind of revolves around trying out beauty products, so even when it's just me here, I'll probably be wearing makeup! :) It's not a situation where I wear it because I feel like I have to, but because it's really fun for me and I enjoy the process.

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Yes I will, but I don't like to do it often. I'd say it's extremely rare, actually. And it's kind of a two-pronged idea... I like doing my makeup, so it's not a chore for me. Also, when I'm out and about here locally, there are a lot of people who know me from the news. I'd rather them not think, man- that girl looks wayyy different from the way I think she looked on camera! lol. I'd prefer to not cause shock/concern as I run into people in the aisles of the grocery store.

14. How many high-end products do you have?
I haven't actually counted, but I don't have as much high end makeup as drugstore. I'm more likely to have high-end palettes and gift sets (I've always thought they are a better value). I'll be more likely to pick those up than individual high end products. I definitely have more high end makeup than I had when I started making YouTube videos, and I think that's a good thing. I'm able to make more comparisons with the drugstore products and determine what's actually worth the price.

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you're getting dressed?
When I was doing the news and waking up in the middle of the night, I would pretty much always have my outfit picked out ahead of time. Now, I don't tend to do that anymore- unless I'm planning for a special event or traveling. On the average day I'll just pick something out as I get dressed.

16. How often do you change your handbag?
I have one main bag- my Isaac Mizrahi large bag- that I refer to as the mothership. LOL! It houses everything, matches everything, and is a good go-to. I feel like I just grab that one most of the time. But if I want to take a clutch or a different bag altogether (this might happen a couple times a week)- I'll just transfer what I need out of my main bag.

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?
I wake up around 6am and go to sleep between 10 and 11pm. I feel so normal saying that! I used to go to bed at between 6 and 7pm and wake up at 1am for the morning news!

18. How often or when do you workout?
Tyler and I have been getting back into the groove of working out and we're doing it together in the evenings several times a week. We've just been doing it in our house- he's good about coming up with different exercises and it helps me to have a partner (drill sergeant) to stay on task :)

19. Left handed or right handed?

20. How tall are you?

21. Do you speak any foreign languages?
I speak a little bit of Spanish. I took classes on it in high school and college, but definitely can't speak it fluently.

22. How many pets do you have?
We have one cat- Cupcake! =^..^=

23. How often are you on Blogger?
I'm usually putting a blog on here 5 days a week, but even when I'm not posting myself, I'm probably reading a post on here almost daily!

24. Do you read comments posted on blogs?
I don't usually read what's posted on other people's blogs, but I do read what's posted here on mine! Although it can be hard to keep up with the comments that are coming in on older posts.

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?
I do have sort of a mental list of things I'd like to try. Sometimes I put it on my phone if there's a lot.

26. How did you come up with your blog name?
It's just named after my YouTube channel! The idea of Beauty Broadcast came about because I was involved in TV news broadcasting... so it just kind of made sense to me. My YouTube channel/blog are like my own little broadcast- about makeup! :)

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?
I use a Kodak EasyShare camera for my pictures, or sometimes even my iPhone.

28. How often do you clean your house?
I've learned that cleaning the whole thing all at once is too much work. So I have different parts of the house that get cleaned on different days throughout the week. So the whole thing is cleaned pretty much weekly, with clutter straightened up as-needed.

29. What's your favorite color?

30. Do you swear?

31. What are you doing with the rest of your day?
Writing another blog post that'll go up later this week on the Ladies Home Journal Gloss Daily blog, shooting one, possibly two videos, and editing! And I was reminded to clean as well!

Whew! That was a long tag! I tag anyone who's interested in doing this for their blog. I think it's great if you're new to blogging to let people get to know you better, but even if you've been blogging for a long time- this covers some questions I get asked a lot. Have a great day everyone!!

Daily Nuggets...
  • Tyler is not feeling well this morning :(

  • Do you have a fun night out coming up? Check out my latest video
  • Just ate scrambled eggs, salsa, and a piece of toast for breakfast.

Classic Neutral Eyes with Wet n Wild Comfort Zone

Hello friends!
Do you ever forget how much you love a particular makeup product?
Today I was using Wet n Wild's Comfort Zone palette as I was getting ready for Beauty Broadcast Live, and I feel like I fell in love with it all over again. I was saying on the live show that I normally think of this as a green palette and forget that the other half is filled with equally gorgeous neutral shades. I used my go-to shadow application format with this look. I'll share the details in a minute- first let's talk about what's on the face!

Face products...
-Too Faced Air Buffed BB Creme (Cream Glow) - dislike! Claims to be "complete coverage"... it's not.
-Revlon Colorstay Concealer (Light)
-Bare Minerals Well Rested (to set concealer & brighten undereyes)
-Makeup For Ever Pro Finish Powder (128 Neutral Sand)
-Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzer (Sunny)
-The Balm Instain Blush (Houndstooth) -review is coming!

Eye Products...
-Sigma Eyeshadow Base (Persuade)
-Wet n Wild Color Icon Palette (Comfort Zone)
-Milani Ultrafine Liquid Liner (Black Vinyl) - upper lashline
-Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil (Zero) - waterline
-L'oreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara - upper lashes
-Maybelline Lash Discovery Mascara - lower lashes
-Salon Perfect Demi Wispies False Eyelashes - not pictured
-Anastasia Beauty Express for Brows & Eyes (Brunette) - not pictured

How I got the look...
-Prime the eyes with Sigma eyeshadow base
(all shadows I'm referring to in the Wet n Wild palette are from the left side)
-Apply the Browbone shade under the brow and around inner corner
-Apply Eyelid shade all over the lid
-Apply the dark brown Definer shade on the outer corner of the eye, lightly in the crease, and smudge it on the lower lashline
-Apply the medium brown Crease shade just above the crease to soften the look and add some warmth
-Extend liquid liner just past the lashline
-Apply black pencil to waterline
-Click here for my tutorial on false eyelashes

Lip Products...
-Too Faced La Creme Lipstick (Nude Beach)
-NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss (Crystal Soda)

Hope you enjoyed the look! This is definitely my go-to shadow format, and I enjoy it because of the way it frames my eye and give it a bit of a lift. All of these shades have some shimmer, and normally I might try to throw a deep matte shade in the crease, but I actually think all of these colors blend really well without looking "muddy". The Wet n Wild shadows are so rich and soft, and I love how it only takes a little bit to get the look you're after. The lashes are definitely key also. I love the thickness that the Demi Wispies give!
