Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection
My fellow Mad Men fans, the wait is almost over!
The season 6 premiere of the hit AMC show is this Sunday at 9/8 central. Not only do I love the show, but I love the old school glamour associated with it. When I realized Estee Lauder had a Mad Men makeup collection, I felt the need to check it out!

First... in case you're not familiar with the show, it's set in the 1960's and is centered around a New York City advertising agency. The acting is phenomenal, the story lines will draw you in, and the outfits and settings take you back in time. Click here for a little sneak peek of season 6.
The Estee Lauder Mad Men collection actually consists of three items- a blush, a lipstick, and a nail polish. I love the description of this collection and 60's time period on the Estee Lauder website. It says...
"Flower Power, Mini Skirts. Pop Art. With sheer, shimmery pastels for lips and nails - seductive yet innocent. Cheek colors so sheer they looked shockingly nude. Luxuriant lashes (real and fake). Starry kaleidoscope eyes."
I opted to buy just the blush ($50) and the lipstick ($30). It was absolutely one of my biggest makeup splurges. But I must say, I didn't buy this for practical reasons. I scoped out the products online, and I really didn't think the lipstick or the blush looked amazingly unique. But honestly, I didn't care what the colors were. I got this because I'm obsessed with Mad Men, and these special retro-themed products tugged at my makeup collector heart strings. I also know that Estee Lauder makeup is top notch quality. (Check out my Estee Lauder 1 Brand Tutorial).
The boxes the makeup comes in and the products themselves are stunning. It was a special experience just opening up these products! The blush even comes inside a golden pouch. This makeup will never live in a drawer. I will always keep it on display! The blush is obviously the most eye-catching item in the collection. The weight of the compact is just so impressive and I love the bright, beautiful design.
The Rich, Rich Lipstick is in Pinkadelic, and the See-Thru Blush is in Light Show (these are the only color options). The lipstick feels very smooth and creamy, and the classic pink shade has a little bit of shimmer. As you can see in the pictures, it doesn't look overly frosty on my lips, but there is definitely is a hint of sparkle. The blush also has a bit of sheen to it, and while it looks like a deep pink, or practically a berry color in the compact, it comes off with a very classic rosy flush on the cheeks.
Here are the swatches of the lipstick and the blush. Obviously the colors are designed to work in harmony, and I think they're beautiful. How much more feminine can someone feel when they're touching up their lipstick from a golden tube while looking into a stunning compact that looks like a work of art? Talk about luxurious.
I paired that lip and cheek color with a very simple eye. For this look, I used the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette, and popped on some Salon Perfect Demi Wispies false eyelashes. Cue the Mad Men theme song! I'm ready for the premiere!
Final thoughts... This is an absolutely gorgeous makeup collection. From the look and feel of the products to their appearance on the face- it's all about a luxurious experience. Even the practical, drugstore makeup lover in me can enjoy that. Could I find dupes for this lipstick and blush? Probably. But for me, that's not what this collection is about. These are truly makeup collector's items, and I realize, that's not everyone's cup of tea. But when I look at the products I own, there aren't a lot of things that I see and think-- I'll have that forever. These are the kinds of items that I want to pass down to future kids and grandkids. Once the lipstick and blush are gone- they'll still have special value. Looking at the quality alone, I can definitely recommend these products. When you take the cost into account, I'd recommend them if you're a makeup obsessed Mad Men fan. As with everything, it's your own decision to make! Here's to another season of Mad Men! And thanks for taking time to stop by my blog! :)
