Review: L'oreal Colour Caresse by Colour Riche

Hi everyone!
Another quick drugstore review for you today! Smooth, lightweight, lip balm-ish lipsticks seem to be the trend among drugstore brands. L'oreal has a couple of versions... something called Colour Riche Balm (tried one of these and wasn't a big fan), and also these more lipstick-like products called Colour Caresse by Colour Riche. Kind of like L'oreal's response to Revlon's Lip Butters. The brand claims that these are glossy lip colors with a lightweight feel. They come in 16 shades, and the ones I picked up are  Pink Cashmere (top two pics), and Rose Taffeta (bottom two pics). Color-wise, I think they're really pretty. You can see these two shades are actually quite similar... Rose Taffeta is just a bit deeper.

While I think these colors look pretty, my one concern is the way they feel on the lips. I was mentioning on Beauty Broadcast Live this morning- they feel kind of greasy. I'm not a fan of overly sticky lip products either, but sometimes when the formula feels too thin and doesn't quite grab the lips... you have to wonder if it's running outside your lip line. When I wear products like Revlon Lip Butters, Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Sticks, Maybelline Color Whispers or even Maybelline Baby Lips... something about those formulas isn't quite as slick. While they have some shine, they don't feel as if they're about to slide off the lips.

Final thoughts...
I really do love the trend of more comfortable lipsticks that can look shiny and feel moisturizing. This line from L'oreal isn't my favorite from the vast array of drugstore options, but they're not terrible either. The shades I have are very pretty, and I must say, Rose Taffeta is really growing on me. Doesn't it seem like one of those super-wearable shades that would work with just about anything? Still, while the shades are light and shiny, they're a little greasy and don't have very good staying power as a result. What do you think of these? Thanks for reading! :)

Daily Nuggets...
  • Been watching the news coverage out of Boston as authorities search for suspect #2. Can't imagine how difficult/frustrating that must be for the many law enforcement officials involved.
  • Got my package of freeze dried fruits & veggies from North Bay Trading Company! Such a good snack... tried the super sweet corn & it's SO good! (got this freeze-dried snack idea from Carrie Underwood!)
  • After a really rainy night it looks like things are drying out here... thinking about all of you who are dealing with flooding!!
  • New video coming tomorrow to my beauty channel! :)

  1. Hi Emily, great review! I'm with you on this product - not my favourite, but not too bad either. Kind of in the middle.

  4. I must say your very inspiring to me on lip colors. I usually wear a nude lip, which I know it gets little boring. But I'm always alittle afraid to wear too much color. Though that is not the case for my eyeshadows lol... thanks for the reviews on this. Just might get me to step outside my comfort zone.

  8. Omg, I thought that I was the only one who felt the same way about these! I am not a big fan of the Loreal Colour Riche balms either bc of the same texture!

  9. Hmm, never tried these before, from the looks of it I think I'll stick to my beloved lip butters and color whispers though :). Great post Emily! Can you bring back the College Girl Beauty series?

  12. The thanks for the review. I wasn't crazy about these lipsticks either, but I didn't think they were too bad. That being said I am not a fan of the lip butters either and don't quite understand the hype. Neither have staying power and since I have fuller lips they seem to smear everywhere.

  13. I am not a huge fan of loreal products but I am getting more into the face products. Think I will skip on these. Thanks for the review tho!!! Personally, I don't think anyone can top the Revlon Lip Butters, those are holy grail for me!!!!
*They did catch/find the 2nd guy/terrorist in Boston last night!!!

  14. I have three shades and though they're quite pigmented they don't last long at all. But I do love Rose Taffeta all I do is line my lips completely with a pink lip liner and that helps the staying power - this shade is my wear to work everyday color!

  16. I love the makeup reviews. My husband thought I was spending a lot of money at Kmart on makeup. Little did he know I was buying Elf eye shadow (BUTTERNUT) ELF eye lash curler and NYC loose powder. When we paid for the makeup my husband was in shock. My makeup bill as never been lower and I couldn't be happier. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

  19. Have I a dumb lipstick question... The makeup bag I carry in my purse pretty much holds all the lipsticks I own, however, it's becoming a bit overwhelming in size. I know you have a TON of lipsticks so I'm wondering do you just pick which one you're going to wear for the day and carry it with you or do you also have a collection in your purse?

  20. Wonderful review! I feel the same way. I keep my Colour Riche in my backpack for school adn use it more like a quick chapstic when I'm desperate. It gives the appearance of my lips but a little better as well, so that's always easy and nice!
