My L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadows

Hi everyone!
I thought I'd throw together a blog post about a great line of drugstore shadows I've been collecting. They are the L'oreal Infallible eyeshadows, and they're sold singularly. It seems like most of the shadows in this line are shimmery, but I do have one that's fairly matte. I love how pigmented these shadows are, and the staying power is great as well. They're an interesting texture... almost like a loose pigment that's been pressed- but not as solid as most eyeshadows. The L'oreal website actually describes them as a "powder-cream texture"... and I can kind of see where they're coming from. The shadows feel very dense and rich, not at all dry or chalky. These retail for around $8, so it's a little more pricey than most drugstore singles.

In case you're not familiar with these shadows, they come with a little stopper that keeps the shadow packed down. Don't dispose of that! I have seven shades so I thought I'd split them up into light, medium, and deep families and show you some swatches.

Left to right: Endless Pearl, Blinged & Brilliant, and Liquid Diamond

Endless Pearl is the one shade that seems to have a matte finish- and unfortunately, in this picture it's totally blending in with my skin. I don't consider that one to be a total must-have-- there are just a lot of other matte highlights in my collection (for example, Wet n Wild Brulee) that can do the job & cost less. Blinged & Brilliant is gorgeous, and I think this might be a limited edition shade. It reminds me of a light rose-gold. Liquid Diamond is a very reflective silvery shade, and I feel like it contains a bit of blue as well. It's really nice for a pop on the lids when you're doing a grey/black smokey eye.

Left to right: Amber Rush, Bronzed Taupe

I absolutely LOVE both of these mid-toned shades. They're great for a one shadow look! Amber Rush is a classic rose gold and I just think it's stunning. It's a little deeper and more colorful than Blinged & Brilliant, shown above. And I also love Bronzed Taupe (this may be showing up in my next Best in Beauty video... :) It seems to work great alongside any other makeup shades you want to wear! Just a perfect neutral. To wear these as a one shadow look, I like to pat the shade on the lid for a more concentrated, metallic finish. Then use a fluffy brush to buff the shadow into the crease. It practically looks like you've worn two different shades, when you're really only using one!

The only shadow I'm wearing here is Bronzed Taupe- applied in the manner described above. I also smudged it a bit under the outer part of the lower lashline.

Left to right: Bottomless Java, Smoldering Plum

How awesome do these shades look? Bottomless Java is a new shade to me, so I haven't haven't played with it a whole lot just yet. I love the golden tones in it, and I think it'd be great paired with Amber Rush or Bronzed Taupe. Smoldering Plum was actually the first Infallible shadow I ever purchased, and it reminds me a lot of MAC Beauty Marked. I love that instead of just having a silver shimmer in it, it actually appears to have a purple/berry toned sparkle. I remember using this shade in a video for a plum smokey eye and it worked great.

When you can't open up and touch these drugstore products, I feel like blog posts showing swatches are always helpful! My favorites from the bunch are probably Amber Rush, Bronzed Taupe, and Smoldering Plum... although I think I'm going to enjoy Bottomless Java the more I use it. The light shades are pretty too, but I just don't feel like they're quite as versatile as the others. The mid-toned shades can give an easy one-shadow look, and the deeper shades also double as liners. If I'm paying $8 for one shadow, I like that it can multitask! :) What are your favorite shades of these Infallible shadows? As you can see, I have a lot of neutrals. What colorful shades would you recommend? Thanks for reading!

  5. Is Amber Rush similar to the second color of Maybelline's Copper Chic, as well as Bottomless Java compared to the fourth color of Copper Chic?

  6. I legit have almost every single infallible that exists and I cannot get enough of them. They are SO rich! I honestly apply these to the lid with my finger. It gives a TON of color! Bottomless Java I love using as just a one shade smokey eye, same with Midnight Blue, Perpetual Purple and Eternal Black. Sultry Smoke is a matte grey that works well in the crease, particularly with the darker shades to help blend out a simple smokey eye. Endless Sea is a great teal color that is awesome for a pop of color under a simple smokey eye with Bottomless Java. Glistening Garnet is a super interesting color that I think you would have fun with, knowing your love for mauvey tones. This is a much brigher shade but it is definitely interesting. Makeupgeektv did an AWESOME look with Amber Rush, Smoldering Plum and Glistening Garnet that I used for Valentine's Day. Keeping in mind I have the entire permanent line by now, the rest of the shades I have were LE so I didn't mention them...but the new shades are awesome! The purple one, which I unfortunately forget the name of, is definitely a dupe for Urban Decay's Fishnet. You should try more shades, you'll love them!

  9. Amber rush paired with the shade Iced Latte (must have imo) is my go-to summer/spring look. Iced Latte on the inner half of the eye and blend Amber Rush on the outer half. The two blended together make the most beautiful gradient.

    1. Most people just use their fingers. It's more pigmented that way. And then you can use a blending brush in the crease. to soften any harsh lines.

  22. This is a great post first off! I tried a Color Tattoo one because they seem similar and are about a dollar cheaper. Could you compare the products? Is there really a difference in product? If so, which do you prefer?

  23. I just bought my first one of these yesterday, Cherie Merie. It's a GORGEOUS coral. It's the first one I've really wanted (I'm a sucker for coral or orangey shadows) and I had a heck of a time finding it. It's from the Miss Candy collection. I highly recommend it to anyone who can find it! Thanks for the swatches!

  28. I LOVE Iced Latte on the lid for a bright-eyed wide awake look. It's even great in the inner corner. By far my most used. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a use for Glistening Garnet. GORGEOUS color, but I have to find a way to make it work on my super light skin tone. Your swatch of Smoldering Plum makes me want it so badly!

  29. Thanks Emily you are absolutely right how helpful you are giving us swatches. Impossible to tell shades in drugstores. Plus getting to read all the comments and then I can make an educated choice. Drugstore is much cheaper ONLY if you end up using the product.

  30. I love using iced latte as an all over the lid color and Maybelline color tattoo in the taupe color as my crease shade! makes for a simple smokey eye :)

  31. I just bought Amber Rush from Ebay because it is not available in Canada. Wow, it is by far my favorite. I have also noticed that Canada's 002 Hourglass Beige is the exact same as US 888 Iced Latte. And this colour is a a dupe for Stila's Kitten. Bonus!

  32. i just got mine today and cant wait to try it! btw, its only $6.99 at Target plus 5%off if you have their red card!

  34. How do you recommend applying these? I have one and use my finger because they don't seem to want to apply with a brush. Tips?
