Look what I found! The Maybelline Baby Lips "Electro" Collection. I picked mine up at Wal-Mart for around $3 each. I was kind of surprised to find them nestled in with the regular Baby Lips collection instead of in a special display. I'm not sure whether these are limited edition or not. There are six total shades in the line... in addition to what I picked up, there's a purple, a yellow, and a green. Not knowing how much color would actually show up on the lips, I decided to go with the shades that would be most wearable for me. Turns out, the shades I have give off quite a bit of color! Like the original Baby Lips line, these claim to provide 8 hours of moisture and contain Shea Butter and Vitamin E. Unlike the originals, these don't contain SPF.
Left to right: Oh! Orange!, Strike a Rose, and Pink Shock
Here are some sheer swatches of the colors in the same order they appear above. While the regular line of Baby Lips seems pretty sheer overall, these are more buildable and have the potential to look rather bright! In the pictures below, I've layered on the colors a bit more to show the maximum amount of color they can give off. One tip for applying these- the rounded lip balm-like shape of the sticks makes for a less precise application. With these brighter colors, you have to be a little more careful with that shape... I don't know if I'd want to apply these without a mirror!
I like how this shade doesn't come off as a totally neon orange- it's actually kind of peachy and seems pretty wearable to me! It's also playing well off of the orange-toned shadow look I'm wearing. Like I mentioned above, I'm showing these shades on my lips with the maximum color I could get out of them... that amounts to a couple layers of this shade. This one has a bit of a citrus scent.
Strike a Rose
This is a beautiful pink that actually came off a little deeper on the lips than I expected. All of these shades have a little bit of shine, which I think is really pretty. Something about this color just comes off a little softer than a lot of the hot pink lipsticks on the market... might be a more wearable way to sport that trend for some people! It also smells kind of like Sweettarts.
Loving this fuchsia/berry pink shade! It's probably my favorite of the bunch. It kind of reminds me of the Sorbet lip butter by Revlon. Again, just because it's shaped like a lip balm doesn't mean you can just throw this on without thinking... I had to be really careful with this color because it came off with so much intensity. The scent on this one makes me think of raspberries.
Final thoughts: I'm a big fan of Maybelline Baby Lips- they were Emily Award winners this past year for Best Drugstore Tinted Lip Balm! I love how moisturizing they feel on the lips, and they're just very handy for on-the-go use! (I especially like the Peach & Cherry shades from the original line) It's nice to see that the line is expanding with some more colorful options... although keep in mind, they don't have the precise shape of a lipstick so you might find the application slightly more tricky. Still, I really enjoy each of the colors I have, and the color in these lasts longer on my lips- even after the shine fades. I haven't noticed problems with these feathering outside the lip line, but if you do tend to have that issue, perhaps a lip primer might be good to use underneath. Hope this review was helpful for you!
- I've had a headache most of the morning... I think I need to hydrate more.
- No joke- I just took a drink and spilled water down the front of my shirt!
- Yesterday evening Tyler was doing some work outdoors and came in for a shower... the prankster in me went and hid in his closet and shrieked when he opened it. I got him good!!! So funny.
- In less exciting news from last night (haha)- we did laundry. Have you ever tried the Downy Unstopables In-Wash Scent Booster? We have the pink kind. OMG. Tyler and I both think it's making the laundry smell AMAZING!
