Boots No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow Trios

Hello out there!!
Happy Hump Day to you! Or as Hoda & Kathie Lee would say, it's Winesday Wednesday! I'm still burning that Harvest Coffee candle from B&BW and it just smells DIVINE. In a cute mason jar. Go get one! :) Anyway, today's topic is the eyeshadow duos from Boots No7. I have never heard anyone talk about these, but after having a really good experience with the brand's Beautifully Matte foundation, I decided to explore some more products. These were around $7 at Target (click here to see them on Target's website). Something I noticed right away was that so many of these trios and some other duos were BROKEN in the display. Have you noticed that? At first I just figured customers were getting careless and tossing around makeup, but as I'll explain in this post- the really frosty shades are actually quite fragile! So here's what I have...
Boots No7 Eyeshadow Trio in Faithful
Are you loving the mint!? So pretty! I'm actually loving the way all of these shades come together. I swatched them here without a primer, and as you can see, none of the shades in this kit are super frosty. The lighter shades popped even more in person, but you're getting a slightly pearly mint color, a satiny, iridescent pink, and a deep matte plummy brown. I found these to be soft, super blendable, and performed so well on top of an eyeshadow primer- as you'll see in this look...
I was wearing the Faithful trio in my Try This, Not That: Eyeliner video and figured I'd be blogging about the shadow, so I snapped a pic! I used the mint on the lid (which actually appears almost matte on the lids), and I layered the plummy brown on the outer part of the lid-- I LOVE the way it looks when those shades overlap. I also blended the plummy brown in the crease, and when you sheer it out, even more of the red tones come through. I used the pink under the brow. Overall- two thumbs up for this trio!
Boots No7 Eyeshadow Trio in Cappuccino
Like the other trio, this one is pigmented and I wasn't able to quite capture how pretty it is in the swatch picture! But in this grouping, the shades quite a bit more shimmery. You get a pearly white, a shimmery dusty-lilac color, and a metallic bronzy-brown. That bronze is FRAGILE. OMG. This trio needs a "handle with care" label on it. There was a teeny crack in the top of that shade when I bought it, but I was able to just press it down a bit with my finger and thought I had no problem. Well, when I was talking about this on Beauty Broadcast Live, I simply put the product in my "Face of the Day" basket and a substantial chunk came out and shadow went everywhere! Now- get this... I just now opened the compact and there's now another crack on the right side! What?! I think just snapping the compact closed is enough to fracture this shade. I can't imagine what this would do tossed in a travel bag and taken on a plane. I've tried some soft shadows in my day, but that bronze is way too soft. And thinking back to all the broken shadows in the display... there are other shimmery shades doing the same thing.
Anyway, this was the trio I was wearing on Beauty Broadcast Live last Thursday, and in my YouTube Made Me Buy It Tag video. I forgot to take a still picture, but you can still get a sense of how natural this trio is. You're not going to get any heavy contouring because the bronzy-brown (while pigmented) just isn't super dark. I used the pearly shade on the inner corner and under the brow, the dusty lilac on the lid, and the bronze in the crease. The shadows were pretty and easy to work with, but again, why so fragile? I give this one thumb up.

Have you tried any of the Boots No7 eyeshadows? What has your experience been like? Any favorites or duds? Let me know! :)

  3. I've been meaning to purchase the Boots foundation, but last time I went to Target they didn't have anything near my color. And I actually didn't see these trios, I'm loving both of these! The mint color is gorgeous! Great picks Emily!

  6. You should be able to use a bit of rubbing alcohol to fix the cracks in your powder. I did this a while ago with a beloved powder I use for my brows and it worked wonders! I did find the top dries a little hard but once you get through that layer the shadow is just the same!

Love the mint palette! Thanks for the great review, as always!

  9. The Boots NO.7 is a brand from the UK so maybe that's why you don't hear much about it over in the US! Haven't tried the trios but I do love the No.7 single shadows though, maybe theyre not as fragile? :)

  15. I am so going to BBW after work to get that candle. I have a coupon and I am using it! That 2nd palette reminds me a lot of the Almay Trio for Brown Eyes - I'm not sure if it's the smoky trio or the neutral trio, but the colors are similar. Only in the Almay Trio the purple is darker and more dimensional. That's a great trio for a bronze and purple eye.

  17. I just picked up the new Sephora Disney collection 4 pan palette- the current princess is Aeriel- and I was mostly attracted to the GORGEOUS mint green! Oh my god to die for! I have purchased all of the 4 pan pallete from the Princess collections, haven't been able to bring myself to drop the almost $60 on the larger "story book" palettes. I have been so impressed!! My favorite so far has been Jasmine... But this new Aeriel is just stunning. Check it out!!

  18. Great review as usual! :) I haven't tried anything from Boots yet, but have heard great things about their foundations and I'm excited to try one! I can't wait to try that candle, I'm a sucker for anything coffee scented! I read about the Carrie Underwood collection the other day on a blog (forget which one), they said there's going to be a really pretty gold color in the collection, which I think is so fitting since it seems like Carrie really favors gold dresses for awards events!

  19. Great post, thanks for posting a blog on the Boots stuff. Ive always been curious . Emily how about doing a video on coloured eyeliner . you could perhaps divide them in categories like basic - black brown dark green dark navy blue and purple giving us both high end and drug store alternatives , smudgable and long wearing waterproof options for each category and or dupes also to go with this .

  23. If you have chunks of a powder product coming off, reseal it by putting a few drops of isopropyl alcohol in it! Hope that helps!

  26. Gorgeous! I love nice pigmented shadows that compliment each other - it's the bst thing for when you don't have time to think of what to pair with what and find them within the ever growing collection :)

I too am influenced by advertising. Too much, says my wallet :D

  27. Em! I'm a No.7 Beauty Consultant here in London (UK) and I'm so excited you love these trios! As I mentioned to you before, they are going to be in all Walgreens from now on because the two companies have merged together :D Huge No7 kisses!!

  28. That is such a gorgeous combo and it's such a flattering look on you. You've inspired me today so I tried to recreate it with whatever dupes I had on hand.Took the mint color from Wet'n'Wild : Blue had at hello, with a browny eyeshadow from Benefit and since the color wasn't exactly on the plumy side I paired with a very beautiful brick color from Inglot....and ohh my ...the result is pretty darn exceptional...Ohh well in my opinion anyway but thank you for the inspiration and thank you for all the videos, you are well loved and appreciated and all the tips you shared with us helped me a lot. xx

  29. Hi Em! Boots is a huge pharmacy company that started here in the UK in 1849! It is everywhere in the UK (and Ireland) with its own department stores and local stores, and it's a very reliable company that does not test on animals. The Boots own brand range of products includes skincare, medicines, healthcare products and many other things - it is HUGE!

In 2006 Boots merged with another large high street pharmacy company Alliance UniChem and now Walgreens bought 45% of that company so that Boots brands get exposure in the US and Walgreens in the UK (hurrah!).

No.7 is just one of the own brand line of cosmetics that includes the brands 17 and Naturals, but Boots also sell the other major brands like Maybelline, Max Factor, L'Oreal, Bourjois, etc. - it's where we Brits go to buy makeup on the high street!

Have a look at the boots.com website to see how big a company it is!

I've got a couple of these trios and I end up going back to them time after time. ;)

BUT I am SO annoyed that you can buy them for $7 in the US, yet in the UK I have to pay £9 which is $14! Where is the logic in that? Grrr!

  30. You look so pretty in both of those pictures! I'm very excited about checking these out the next time I'm at Target. I've slowly started getting into more colorful eye shadow, and I think either of these quads would be nice for slowly easing in to using greens or purples.

  31. I found these in my target, and honestly I usually go to target for Elf, so I never paid this. Line much attention until you and Melmphs mentioned it. I did notice most of the shadows were broken which would prevent me from even buying it lol....its a shame because they look pretty!

  32. That green look is stunning on you Emily! :)

  33. The brown in the Cappuccino trio looks like the brown in my Almay intense I-color trio 413 for hazel eyes, but the Boots looks more pigmented.

  34. I always love all the products of boots no 7 especially wrinkle cream. I have always been a skeptic with advertising, especially when it comes to skin care. But I fell for the Boots no 7 and am very happy with the result. It has turned my skin into younger looking skin. As for lines and wrinkles they are now diminish almost. http://www.consumerhealthdigest.com/wrinkle-cream-reviews/boots-no-7.html
