Em Cosmetics Life Palette Follow-Up

Hi everyone!
Hope you're having a good Monday! Just wanted to do a quick post in addition to the video I put up yesterday reviewing Em Cosmetics by Michelle Phan. I talked about a handful of different products from the line, as well as the Life Palette in Career Life. If you haven't seen my review yet, check it out!
One thing that I mentioned in the video was that the large Life Palette comes with a smaller empty palette that you can customize. My package of products sent from the company did not include one of those small compacts, and I didn't let it impact my review-- I just wasn't able to show it. I'm sure if someone were actually placing an order, the would indeed receive that smaller palette, so it's all good. But then a couple of days after I shot and edited my review this past week, I did receive the small palette in the mail. I wanted you to be able to see it, so I thought I'd do this follow-up post.
The idea is that you use the little tool included with the large Life palette to lift shadows from the palette. You'll notice a little notch by every shade- they lift out easily and are magnetic. Each shade has a name, and those names are on the back of the pans.
The smaller compact is about the size of a pressed powder compact, and can whole one fourth of the Life Palette. Like the large palette, this one magnetizes shut, but it seems more sturdy all-around. As you can see, there's also a mirror included.
Here's the compact holding the Career Life look called "Natural Talent". The shadows magnetize in here the same way- none of them seem loose or like they would fall out or anything. You could put an entire look into this travel palette like I did, or you could put together your own combination of shades. Just wanted to make I let you know about that smaller palette, since I wasn't able to do so in the video. Also, thank you to anyone who took time to watch my review. If you watch it, you'll see there are some things I really like from Em Cosmetics, and some things I wasn't a big fan of. As always, these are just my experiences with the products, and I find that every brand I try has hits & misses. Thank you to those who left respectful comments toward Michelle... of course we'll all have differing opinions on makeup from time to time, but there's no reason to take personal jabs at someone. We're all human beings with real feelings. Thank you! :)

Daily Nuggets...
  • Having a weird puffy/dryness on my eyelids-- my lips are super dry as well. I'm think it's probably a reaction to a product I used... I also did a lot of outdoor work yesterday- who knows! Could've been skincare related as well. Either way, I'm going makeup free today just to give my face a break!
  • Woke up to a little bit of rain this morning... the weather has been incredibly dry here lately!
  • Got the house decorated for fall yesterday! One of my favorite times to decorate. If you're interested, I could do a post about that :)
  • Back to doing 50 kettlebell swings a day- really gets the heart rate up and works the whole body. What are some of your favorite exercises?
  • One more thing! To those who asked- yes I ordered the Laura Geller Today's Special Value on QVC! It's the Baked Innovations set & contains a new kind of foundation from LG. :)

  3. I loved your Em Cosmetics review video, and this post is great, too! Thanks for letting us see the smaller palette. And I love your point about how we're all real people with feelings. I think too many people forget that sometimes when leaving comments on YouTube, and it's disappointing.

My favorite workout is Pure Barre!! The classes are kind of expensive (and the studios aren't in every town, so you might not even have one in your area), but you can get Pure Barre DVDs online. I like to do them in my living room when I can't make it to class. It's a tough workout - you should try it! :)

  11. Thank you for the Em Review! I heard so many negative reviews and the ones that were positive kinda seemed fake lol I can always count on a true and honest review from you! Keep up the great work! YOU ROCK!

  12. Did people think that since Michele is a YouTuber you would automatically give the line a five star rating? I think it is great that you maintained your integrity when reviewing this line and letting people know your honest opinion. My personal observation from the review is that the line doesn't appear to be that special or unique so I will probably skip it.

  16. Looks great Emily, I think it would be great to mix and match the shadows for a custom palette! I stick to NO RULES!!

  17. Hi Emily,

Since you mentioned that you have a problem with the powder fallout, i feel like you could just depot all the lip gloss and lipstick pans into the smaller palette, and then the grains of eye shadow or blush wouldn't be stuck in your lipstick/lipglosses.

  23. I'm a newbie to your website and videos, but love'm all! I use NYX and the video on using 1 name brand was awesome.

If you do a post on your Autumn decorations that would be super. Thanks for such great reviews and how-to's - saves $$$ and since I don't usually wear a lot of make-up, has been a real learning curve for me.

  33. I am behind on YT videos due to a vacation so I am interested in seeing this review. I did receive a paper sample from Em cosmetics in my Ipsy bag too, not enough to really judge the brand though. ALso, yes please do a fall decor post!

  34. I was awaiting your review because I knew it would be honest. I posted my honest thoughts to the website after purchasing and even though my review was filled with both positive and negative ( eyeshadow fallout and the fact that I had to build the blushes to get any color), my review was deleted TWICE. I didn't say anything negative against Michelle, nor would I. Thanks again for your great review. Looking forward to Laura Gellar review! ! I do a combination of Pure Barre and Pilates to stay in shape and I love them! As a former gymnast, I have to keep my core strong to support my back and both forms of exercise lengthen your muscles, keep you strong, flexible and do wonderful things for the shape of your legs and arms! ;-)

  35. The only reason to fear aging is when we realize we haven’t spent the time cultivating anything beyond our looks. We much choose to always strengthen our mind, become more knowledgeable of the world we are curious about and living in as well as constantly respectful of our bodies and presence. Style is something which is a choice that one cultivates and embodies each and every day. And true beauty as defined above coupled with style is a magnificent unbeatable pairing.

  36. That should solve the fallout problem stopping eyeshadows from escaping into the lipsticks. If they are the same size you could just separate them all. Fabulous concept though! Love your blog and videos! Xx
