ELF Long-lasting Lustrous Eyeshadows

Hey everyone!
Hope you're having a good day! This morning on Beauty Broadcast Live I mentioned these eyeshadows from ELF, but the webcam never does swatches justice- so I wanted to blog about them so you can really see what I'm talking about! :) These "Long-lasting Lustrous Eyeshadows" are part of ELF's studio line, and cost $3 apiece on ELF's website. There are a total of 7 shades available. They have a very unusual texture- which the website describes as "whipped gel". The product feels very lightweight- almost spongy to the touch. Texture-wise, they kind of remind me of Maybelline's Dream Bouncy blushes only a little lighter & more like a mousse.
The shades I have are Soiree (a pinky-mauve), Gala (shimmery brown), and Party (black with silver sparkle).
Here are the swatches for Soiree, Gala, and Party. As you can see, these are really sparkly products, and they swatch with the full color you'd expect from a cream product. Normally I'd use a cream product as a base for a powder, but these shades have such a dazzling sparkle, I actually prefer to use them to top off different looks. I just tap my finger into the product and it leaves a very pretty effect on the center of the lids. While I very much agree with the word "Lustrous" in the name of this product, the "Long-lasting" claim is pretty questionable. I don't have any problem with the staying power when I lightly tap these onto an existing eye-look (keep in mind, I'm not using LOTS of product with that method), but I do experience creasing if I wear them alone. They don't set to be completely smudge-free, and I feel like the glitter can easily transfer upon contact.

Bottom Line- if you're looking for a pretty way to top off a special occasion look, these are gorgeous! If you plan to use them alone, you may notice some fading, creasing, or glitter transfer. They're not as long wearing as other cream shadows like Maybelline Color Tattoos, or Milani & Jordana shadow sticks. If you look at these as an employee in the office... these shadows aren't the workhorse of the group, but they will hang out and look pretty!

  2. Thanks for the post. I am OBSESSED with the Maybelline Color Tattoos so I will probably stick with those since I do have most of them, including the limited edition ones. Also, I have found some really cute dresses at F21 lately. If you really dig, you can find some nice ones that aren't too short too! I have 2 that I am bringing to a wedding this weekend. Good Luck!

  4. Thanks for this post, Emily! It's interesting to read your thoughts on these. I have them in two shades and actually quite like them, but - as you point out - they're super shimmery! I actually wrote a review of them on my own blog a while back if anyone's interested. Hope you have a great day!!

  7. Coast UK's dresses are something special. Can't say exactly what it is, but they walk the line perfectly between youthful and mature. They're amazing for ladies our age. Check them out at Bloomingdales. http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/search?Keyword=coast&x=-1287&y=-120

  9. I've heard that people have an easier job using their fingers, rather than a brush, to apply the product with full color. Do you find that to be true? Also I was wondering if it's possible to use this product as an eyeliner (can an eyeliner brush pick up the color fully??)

  11. It is so hard to find special dresses! I'm a 32 year old professional person. There's not much that doesn't make me look grandma or teenager!

  12. I use them exactly like you mentioned, on top of my eye look in the center for some sparkle. I love these little gems! I have a similar one from Chanel that cost 12x more and I like these just as much as the Chanel (which have a fairly similar mousse texture).

So true!! I complain about that all the time! My friends and I quote Britney Spears, in that we're not a girl, not yet a woman. (obviously we are women being in our late 20s but it FEELS like we're in that weird in-between phase!)

    Good luck! :)

  18. Hi - We just got home from almost a month in Italy and I just had to sent compliments on to you straight-away. Thanks to you, I loaded up on cosmetics that I hadn't worn in a long time, or products new to me. What fun I had each day putting on something new and wonderful. For several "big date nights" in Florence and Venice I put on all sorts of fun items and just have to thank you for really making this trip extra special and making me confident enough to try and push the envelope with all the fun make-up out there. My husband noticed it all and I had a ton of compliments! Thanks for making it easy. MMR

  19. They definitely remind me of the Maybelline color tattoos, but I find with the Maybelline eyeshadows they dry up pretty quickly! How are these products when it comes to drying up?
