Sephora Favorites - Give Me More Lip Set!

Hi everyone!
Whew! You can imagine how my lips feel after trying on ALLLL of those lip colors! (17 to be exact!) This blog post has actually been three days in the making. As I try to hone my skills at being a work-at-home mom, I've been doing videos in the early morning, but struggling to get a lot of blogging done in the afternoons. That tends to be Belle's main "active alert" time. But little by little, this post has come together! :) I must say, this set is right up my alley. It's the limited edition Give Me More Lip sampler. In the past, I've tried the Give Me Some Lip sets, but decided to go big with this one. It's $59 on Sephora's site, and is pretty much the ultimate gift for the lip product addict on your list. While I'm very familiar with some of the products, there are others that I have only tried on once and haven't had time to adequately test their staying power and review them yet. But simply looking at the variety of colors and forms of lip colors that are included in this kit- I gotta say, I'm blown away. It's so much fun!
Inside this gift box, the various lip products are sectioned off into four different color families... nudes/neutrals, pinks, berries, and reds. I can't decide what I like more-- the color variety, or the variety of lip color formats/textures. There are stains, lipsticks, glosses, balms, jumbo pencils... I just LOVE that! If you're looking to branch out, this is a perfect way to do so. And while you're getting lots of smallish sizes, they're still not tiny! I could see these lasting a long time. Below, I'll show each color family on my lips, and give a few observations on their application and appearance. If I already have reviews on any of these products, I'll provide links. You can click any of the pictures to enlarge them for a closer look!
My standout products are marked with an asterisk! *
Left to right: Makeup Up For Ever Aqua Lip Pencil in 3C, Too Faced La Creme lipstick in Naked Dolly, Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Speak Your Mind, Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Blush, Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nude Vinyl.
  • Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Pencil in 3C: Great neutral color, will work well with all sorts of neutral lipsticks or glosses. When worn alone, it has a slightly tacky feel. More comfortable with something on top. Excellent staying power.

  • Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Naked Dolly (Top Left): Very creamy, hydrating feel and nice shine. This light shade goes on a bit more streaky than most of the more colorful La Creme lipsticks that I have, so application can take a little longer to get it even.
  • *Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Speak Your Mind (Top Right): Incredibly smooth lipstick with subtle shine. Applied like a dream... just a great cream formula lipstick. I'd purchase more of these!
  • Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Blush (Bottom Left): Has a deliciously sweet scent, not sticky at all. I like the deep peachy tone.
  • Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nude Vinyl (Bottom Right): Soft pinky-peach color. Feels somewhat thick and tacky at first, but the comfort level actually seems to improve with wear. Pigmented liquid-lipstick type format.

Left to right: Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment in Flush, Too Faced Melted Liquified Longwear Lipstick in Fuchsia, Benefit PosieBalm, Bite Luminous Creme Lipstick in Palomino.
  • Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment in Flush (Top Left): Full coverage reddish-berry color, minty scent. Slightly sticky feel on the lips. Click here for a full review.
  • Too Faced Melted in Fuchsia (Top Right): Strikingly beautiful hot pink. Velvety feel on the lips that has some shine after initial application, but becomes rather matte with continued wear. Applicator isn't quite small enough to make application of this vivid shade foolproof. Click here for a full review.
  • Benefit PosieBalm (Bottom Left): Very sheer, but extremely comfortable on the lips. Has a rosy scent. The natural pigmentation in your lips will play a big role in how this color looks on you. Click here for a review that includes other Benefit Balms.
  • *Bite Luminous Creme Lipstick in Palomino (Bottom Right): One of my favorite shades from one of my favorite lipstick lines!! This beautiful fuchsia has a hint of shine and an incredibly velvety smooth glide on the lips. Comfortable wear and great staying power. Click here for a past blog post showing this and other Bite lipsticks.

Left to right: Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody, Fresh Sugar Berry Tinted Lip Treatment, Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Menace, OCC Lip Tar Matte Test Tube in Black Dahlia.
  • *Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody (Top left): I already own this, and have nearly used it up. It's probably my favorite LipSurgence shade-- a sheer, deep red (which I think is kind of unique in the sheer lip color world). Totally comfortable on the lips, hint of shine.
  • *Fresh Sugar Berry Tinted Lip Treatment (Top right): While I've tried a few balms from Fresh, this is my first experience with Berry and I'm in LOVE. Applies smooth as silk. Makes lips feel pillowy soft (even in the midst of a marathon lip swatching session!) Lemon-y scent.
  • *Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Menace (Bottom left): I adore this color! Really richly pigmented berry/red with amazing shine that just lights up the face. My signature type of shade. Would be an amazing winter/holiday color.
  • OCC Lip Tar Matte Test Tube in Black Dahlia (Bottom right): Interesting product, and will require more experimentation to get a good idea of everything it will do. A sheer application looks more berry and less vampy- and it's also more matte. In the picture, I've applied a pretty thick coat, which appears darker and slightly shiny. Tricky to apply and get a clean line around the edge, but this kit does include a small lip brush, which is appreciated.

Left to right: Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon, Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Red Armour, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw, Sephora Rouge Infusion in 10 Red Essence.

  • *Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon (Top Left): Amazing liquid stain type of consistency. Totally full color and dries matte. This tone of red is absolute perfection!
  • Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Red Armour (Top Right): A true cherry red lipstick. Smooth application and a shiny finish. Pretty color, but nothing remarkably special about this formula. Still nice, though.
  • *Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw (Bottom Left): Thin, yet amazingly creamy and full color. Dries matte on the lips. Incredibly hard to remove, even after only being on the lips for a few minutes.
  • Sephora Rouge Infusion in 10 Red Essence (Bottom Right): Don't look too close at the lip line here... things got a little messy as I scrubbed off the previous lip color from KVD. This colorful stain type of consistency reminds me of the Hourglass, but comes off just slightly less full coverage on the lips. Will need to wear it more to make a better comparison.

As you can see, I've marked some of my favorite products above with an asterisk! Others may turn into favorites once I have a chance to experiment with them more. Overall, this is a fabulous, fun lip kit for the person who likes to experiment. Whoever was in charge of putting this grouping of products together deserves a raise. They combined such a variety of new and interesting textures, as well as some very classic lipsticks and glosses. The shade range goes from nude to vampy dark berry and everywhere in between. Here are just a few overall impressions (just my personal take!) on each of the color families...
  • Best Products: The Berries. Gorgeous shades, yet each one is its own unique take on "berry". I'm so pleasantly surprised by the Buxom lipstick. Love the balm-like comfort of Tarte & Fresh. And that crazy matte OCC lip tar will be fun to continue to play with!
  • Most Average: The Neutrals. While the Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick really impressed me, everything else in this color family wasn't quite so outstanding. Not bad by any means... just didn't knock my socks off. There were more interesting, unique, and high quality consistencies included in the other color families.
  • Most Familiar: The Pinks. You may have noticed- I actually happen to have reviews on all of the products in this section. All in all, beautiful colors with a few specific drawbacks. The inclusion of Bite Palomino pretty much makes up for any of those issues, though :)
  • Most Surprising: The Reds. I hadn't tried any of the products in this color family yet, and I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency of some of these products. There seems to be a trend toward very thin, stain-like liquids that are full coverage and dry to a matte finish. Exciting!
Thanks so much for checking out my post on this massive lip kit! If you've tried it, I'd love to hear what you think!

Daily Nuggets...
  • Speaking of nuggets... I'm trying to take advantage of her nap time and typing my little heart out. I've missed blogging!
  • I have determined that Belle likes music and finds certain songs on my playlist to be extra calming. Those songs are: Dixieland Delight by Alabama, Love Can Build a Bridge by The Judds, American Kids by Kenny Chesney, A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion, and Mandolin Rain by Josh Kelley - to name a few.
  • Last night after Tyler got home from work, I had a little "me time" at Walgreens. I just feel good being in the Walgreens beauty aisle, what can I say? I came out with some cherry cordial-flavored Hershey's kisses and a few new.... wait for it... lip products! Ugh! I have a problem! LOL. But you knew that already ;)
  • The view out my window is pure fall. Grey skies and a light breeze blowing multi-colored leaves off the trees. It's beautiful!

Baby Broadcast: 1 Month with Belle!

Hi everyone!
Thanks for stopping by the blog! I wanted to take a minute to document some of my observations after the first month of having a newborn in my life. Can you believe Belle is already a month old?! Disclaimer: if you landed on this post looking for a parenting expert- you are not in the right place! Before Belle, I had very little experience with babies. I could probably count the amount of diapers I'd changed on one hand! So that might make some of these observations extra amusing to those of you who've been in the parenting game for a long time! I'm just sharing our experiences. I'm planning to do some vlogs on more specific topics (like breastfeeding, products we love, working at home + baby, anything else you want to see?), but for now- I thought you might find these bullet points entertaining!

  • My most-worn hairdo: hair clipped up in a bun. Even if you see my hair down in a video, it's not usually staying that way for long.
  • Outfit priorities: comfort & ease of breastfeeding.
  • If someone asks if the reason I look rested in pictures is because I have an "easy baby", it's not. It's makeup! My stash of concealer is plentiful and very full coverage.
  • In addition- my "new mommy glow" is also makeup.
  • Any guesses as to what created the pregnancy glow?
  • I'm obsessed with the length/thickness of my newborn's eyelashes.
  • They say babies love studying your face, but I'm convinced that Belle is especially entertained by my funny faces when I'm wearing a bright or dark lipstick. I suppose she's able to pick up on the contrast more.  She's mesmerized!
Stuff Baby Does...
  • Baby facial expressions are both hilarious and adorable! It's hard to look away!
  • A freshly bathed baby is the best scent.
  • When a certain someone is having a tantrum, I start to feel like my cat really has her act together.
  • ALL baby bodily noises are cute. Hiccups, burps, and yes- even when she toots. It's cute!
  • Cats will enjoy a baby play mat just as much, if not more, than the baby.
  • Babies change FAST. Seriously, it seems like every couple of days I notice some little difference in her appearance.
Stuff We Do...
  • I'm always surprised by all the repetitive songs/phrases Tyler and I will come up with while soothing a crying baby. How many times have I said "she's ok!" or "she's a good girl!" Over and over and over...
  • You can tone a lot of muscles while walking around bopping a crying baby.
  • Sometimes the baby talk voice finds its way into regular, non-baby related conversations.
  • Poop (amount/color/consistency) is openly discussed without any awkwardness.
  • The same can be said for nipples.
  • I can't begin to count how many times I've kissed Belle on top of the head.
  • When soothing a crying baby, some random thing that you do will make you believe you have the magic touch. Until the baby cries again, and it doesn't work anymore.
  • Googling "is it normal if..." happens a lot.
  • The 4th hour of the Today show (with Kathie Lee & Hoda) re-airs in the middle of the night on NBC. (At least it does in our TV market... does this happen where you live?) I LOVE KLG & HODA, so this is awesome. Say what you want about them, but I believe they have some of the best chemistry of any TV hosts I've watched.
  • I've heard so often that breastfeeding is not painful. However, I'm convinced that there is a phase early on for some people (a.k.a. me), where the nipples are very sensitive to this new task... particularly because I have a "little snapping turtle" on my hands with a very aggressive sucking tendency. It only makes sense that there would be a period of time where the nipples have to get used to this. After a month, I'm finally starting to round a corner and am experiencing less sensitivity/pain. The initial latch might hurt a bit, but it definitely subsides.
  • Breastfeeding makes you thirsty.
  • Before you start a session of breastfeeding, have everything you might need in the near future within reach, especially if you're alone (water, burp cloth, phone, remote, etc.)
  • Make sure your nursing bra is big enough! One that's too tight is both uncomfortable, and could cause problems with plugged ducts.
  • Leakage is real. Get some Ultra Soft nursing pads from Lansinoh. The Lanolin ointment is also a must.
  • A breastfeeding app is handy for remembering what side you fed the baby on last, and to keep track of how long he/she has been feeding. I use the Baby Nursing/Breastfeeding app from American Baby. You can track tons of things on there if you want to (diapers, pumping, doc visits, etc.)
  • If you're a visual learner, this video and this video offer some great breastfeeding tips. Even after taking a breastfeeding class, I found these videos super useful.
And one final observation... a DIY photo shoot with a newborn that involves any sort of complex outfit is about as easy as dressing your cat up for Halloween (I'll admit, I tried that once). But I really wanted to get pics of Belle in this adorable outfit that Jennifer Hickey sent from Adora Bella Boutique! The onesie says "Our Princess Belle Has Arrived" and Jennifer also sent the cute tutu and headband! The stuff is absolutely darling. We may re-try this photoshoot again at some point (and maybe consult the help of a professional!) But for now I have a couple of pictures! :) The tears started flowing pretty fast, but I promise that's when the pictures ended! Thank you, Jennifer, for the insanely cute outfit!!
Bottom line: I cannot BELIEVE how much Tyler and I have learned in the past month. Things that weren't even in our vocabulary before are now part of everyday life. There are challenges... those moments where you've tried EVERYTHING but the baby is still crying. Or you're so tired you could almost fall asleep standing up. But there's one thing that comes very easily-- and that's the love we have for this little baby. We love her with every ounce of our being. And looking into those wide eyes during a calm moment and realizing that this little life is in your hands... it's just amazing. I'm so glad I get to be Belle's momma. She's brought so much to our lives in one short month- I can't imagine what the future holds!

Tarte Kiss & Belle LipSurgence Lip Set

Hi everyone!
Hope your week is off to a great start! I've been busy trying out lots of different 2014 holiday palettes and gift sets-- you can expect to see lots of reviews here, on my Express channel, and also on my main channel. Today I'm chatting about a set that shares a name with my daughter! :) The Kiss & Belle set from Tarte retails for $34 on Ulta's website. (This kit was sent to me by Tarte, by the way.) It seems every year Tarte comes out with a set of mini LipSurgence lip colors, and this one seems to offer the most variety that I've seen... you're getting several different finishes and textures, and I also think the overall color selection is more varied compared to kits in the past. Here's what you're getting...
  • 2 LipSurgence Matte Lip Tints (Eternal & Fancy)
  • 4 LipSurgence Lip Tints (Dreamy, Alluring, Innocent & Dainty)
  • 2 LipSurgence (Kiss & Belle)

FYI: This is a limited edition set- so these are new colors that aren't already part of Tarte's line.
Left to right: Eternal, Dreamy, Kiss, Alluring, Innocent, Belle, Dainty, Fancy
Something to be aware of with the LipSurgence line is the scent. The little twist-up sticks (both the mattes and the tints) have a very minty scent and cool feel on the lips. Personally, I enjoy it, but I know some people really aren't a fan of minty lip products. As for the glosses, they have a very sweet, almost vanilla-type scent.
(Left: Eternal, Right: Fancy)
I LOVE Tarte's Matte LipSurgence products. They aren't the least bit drying on me, and have such full color compared to the traditional LipSurgence tints. The staying power is awesome as well. In fact, Fancy has been on my lips since this morning and now at 3:40 in the afternoon, it's still going strong! While you know I love a good berry shade, I also enjoy Eternal as well. It's such a flattering coral color!
(Top left: Dreamy, top right: Alluring, bottom left: Innocent, bottom right: Dainty)
The regular lip tints are more like tinted lip balms. I have many of these in my collection, and I find that this format of LipSurgence can really run the gamut in terms of pigmentation. Some are quite sheer, while others are just as full color as a classic lipstick. The feeling on the lips is more lightweight and shiny compared to the matte version. While these tend to feel more moisturizing, I find they don't last as long as the mattes. I think Dreamy, the bold fuchsia, is the strongest of this bunch. I also really like Alluring- it strikes me as the kind of shade that would look good on anyone, for any occasion (FYI: for some reason the outer packaging of this one says it's matte... clearly it's a mistake, and it's not classified as a matte on Ulta's site). Innocent is a soft pinky-nude, and I found it to be pretty sheer, while Dainty is a classic pink.
(Left: Kiss, Right: Belle)
I think it was a great idea for Tarte to incorporate a couple of their LipSurgence glosses in this kit. In the past, it seems like it's one or the other-- either you're getting an entire set of LipSurgence sticks, or an entire set of glosses. Here you not only get two kinds of finishes in the sticks, but also a couple of ultra shiny glosses. Kiss is a sheer pink with golden sparkle. I really think it's showing up extra pink in this picture because my lips were somewhat stained that way after trying on the other colors. Belle (fabulous name! ;) is a creamy berry gloss with no shimmer. I think it's absolutely gorgeous. These glosses are a little tacky, but overall, I find them to be less sticky than the brand's older Maracuja formula. Frankly, I like a gloss to be just a little tacky because it improves the staying power and prevents the gloss from drifting outside my lip line.

If you keep up with my videos, you already know I'm a fan of LipSurgence. I had a pretty good idea that I was going to enjoy this kit before I even tried it-- but I was still eager to see if the overall color selection would be better than LipSurgence kits from the past. I truly think this is one of the best yet. Brights, nude, pink, coral... there's a nice variety in this set- plus a couple of glosses to add to the mix! If you're a total lip product junkie, you know you don't REALLY need a bunch of full-size lip colors... let's face it, you just won't use them up. Here you get a nice sampling of products that are still generously sized. Well done, Tarte! And thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I really like reviewing larger lip sets on here because I think you can scroll through the pictures and easily get a sense of the color selection.

Daily Nuggets...
  • First- Hi Tyler! (He tells me he'll click on my blog, look at the pictures, and scroll to the nuggets :)
  • Belle is being awfully sweet today. I swore she said "ma" while on the play mat earlier. Could just be a fluke. Or maybe she's a genius!! :)
  • So much sun shining through the windows... Cupcake is in sunbeam heaven.
  • Why couldn't the Cardinals make it to the World Series??
  • We went to the mall over the weekend- momma needed to get out of the house. While Belle was definitely behaving, I couldn't help but feel like she could start wailing at any moment. It was a VERY efficient trip to Ulta & Payless. I found a pair of light brown flats in record time!

Quick & Simple FOTD- Brightening Tired Eyes!

Hi everyone!!
It feels great to be blogging again! I'm in the process of slowly getting back into all my beauty "stuff", while also enjoying all the fun and challenges that motherhood brings! It really brings tears to my eyes as I look at this picture of me holding Belle in my makeup chair. Technically, she's been my little makeup companion for 9 months... but now this little nugget is in my lap! Still doesn't quite seem real. I love her so much, I can't even explain. What an incredible gift to our lives!

After feeding Belle in the mornings, she tends to take a good long nap, and I have a Pack-n-Play up in the makeup room where she can sleep as I do my makeup! Some people have asked me how or why I'm doing my makeup with this new little baby in my life. My answer is-- I love doing makeup! It never feels like a chore to me. While all things Beauty Broadcast have become my "job", I actually STILL find the act of doing makeup to be quite fun, and frankly, relaxing and therapeutic as well. Having a baby brings SO MANY changes to a person's life. When possible, keeping a little chunk of my morning routine alive makes me feel renewed and refreshed (even when I don't look it!) So yeah... I am blessed to truly love what I do. Thank you for enjoying it along with me!
Today's look was quick, basic, and pretty natural... while still covering up some dark circles and brightening my tired eyes! So I decided to set aside the products I used and snap a few pics for this "Face of the Day" blog post! The face products act to mattify and even out my skin, as well as correct my dark circles, and the eye products come together to create a VERY quick, no-brainer look!
  • Cover Girl Ready, Set Gorgeous Foundation #210 Medium Beige
  • It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under eye Corrector in Medium (yet another great salmon-toned solution for dark spots/dark under eyes!)
  • Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Oh So Radiant! Powder in Creamy Natural
  • Flower Beauty Blush/Bronzer Duo in Gloriously Golden

  • Mally Evercolor Shadow Stick in Dusk (blended all over the lid/crease with Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush)
  • Rimmel ScandalEyes Liner in Nude (to brighten lower inner rim)
  • NYX Two Timer liquid/pencil liner (liquid on top, pencil smudged on outer part of lower lash line)
  • Mally Volumizing Mascara (I was reminded how amazing this mascara is- especially after 2/3 weeks of use!!)
  • Milani Easybrow in Natural Taupe
  • Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Deep Brown

  •  Hard Candy Plumping Serum Lipstick in Infamous (something new I'm trying... not so sure that it plumps, but it does look pretty & has good staying power)

The biggest keys to looking awake? A couple of the little details that I think absolutely can't be skipped are the salmon-toned concealer to correct your circles, and a nude liner on your lower inner rim. These things might seem like small details, but they make a world of difference. I think those are the can't-miss steps, but adding some color to the face with blush and lipstick definitely polishes up the look! :) Hope this was helpful to anyone running low on sleep and/or time in the mornings!

Daily Nuggets...
  • Belle makes the CUTEST faces/squirmy movements when she wakes up from naps! omg. Somebody should've warned me about the cuteness of that moment.
  • Another random observation... the act of breastfeeding makes me SO THIRSTY. I can't believe how much water I've been taking down lately!
  • Tyler and I shot our "Birth Story" vlog yesterday! It was 45 minutes!!! So when I have a decent chunk of time to sit down and edit, I'll do that! :)
  • Tomorrow there will be a new review on my Express channel! Meanwhile, today I posted a new video on my main channel that I shot a couple weeks ago when I was waiting on Belle! :)
  • Wipe warmer... the kind of item that might seem like an unnecessary luxury where baby stuff is concerned, but it TOTALLY makes a difference when changing a baby! I'm a believer.
  • Warning: If you start eating chewy Sprees, you will have a hard time stopping.

Whose Nursery Is It Anyway?

Hi everyone!
I just finished up the day's editing tasks and thought I'd write up a quick blog post. I meant for it to be makeup-related, but when I was walking down the hall and spotted a certain someone hanging out in the nursery, I snapped yet another picture and thought this would be a good time to share Cupcake's nursery obsession. In case you're not familiar with Cupcake a.k.a. "the cake" a.k.a. Baker a.k.a. Bean a.k.a... you get the idea-- she has lots of nicknames... she's our first baby. We adopted her from a shelter back in 2010, not long after we moved into our first house. She was only a few months old at the time. She is such a sweet girl and has been so good with all the adjustments of moving to a new home. But it seems that the place she feels the most "at home" in this house is the nursery.
From the very beginning (back in June) when the room was just a lavender-colored landing spot for bags and boxes, she became infatuated with a new phenomenon... skylights. Large, uninterrupted rectangles of sunbeams to lay in?! She was in love.
Once we actually started assembling baby stuff in "her" room... she was there to let us know where furniture was NOT allowed.
Oh, you've added a Pack-n-Play? Thanks for the additional spot to enjoy the sunbeams.
I suppose I can hang out in my tunnel... until the sunbeams come out again.
A new glider?! Don't mind if I do!
Now there are blinds... I believe these are meant for creeping on the neighbors.
The window seat is so much better now that you've added a comfy blanket! Thanks mom!
My sweet Cupcake loves the nursery! Most afternoons when I'm working on videos, she's in there lounging the day away. I wonder what she'll do when she realizes she has to share?
For now, we're all getting plenty of rest until Belle makes her arrival! Well, some of us more than others ;) I'm now 38 weeks along, and continue to see the doctor on a weekly basis. I know anything can happen at this point, but I think he figures I'll be back in for another appointment this coming Tuesday. I'm such a mix of emotions as the days tick closer to my due date - September 17th! I'm a little nervous, scared, excited... but most of all, so grateful. I'm about to embark one of the most exciting phases of life... isn't it strange how I won't know exactly what day everything will change? One thing is for sure... Tyler and I already have so much love in our hearts for this little person who we've yet to meet. And I think there's a four-legged big sister who knows something big is about to happen, too. =^..^=

Two Pretty Summer-to-Fall Transition Lip Colors

Hi everyone!
It's been awhile since I've explored the lipsticks in Maybelline's Color Sensational line, and there's no good reason for that. The lipsticks that I have from this line are pigmented, creamy, and feel good on the lips. So the last time I was at Ulta, I spent way too long looking over the various shade families, and ended up focusing on the "Red" collection. I found a couple of gorgeous new shades that I'm loving! I think they're great colors that aren't too light or too dark... making them beautiful options as you transition your summer looks to fall! :)
Peachy Scene (left), and Summer Sunset (right)

Peachy Scene has a bit of shimmer... I'm not normally a fan of shimmery lipsticks, but I think this one is so pigmented, the shimmer doesn't overwhelm the look. I think the tone is so beautiful! And I'm also kind of obsessed with Summer Sunset. It reminds me of a color that I used to love from this line called "Blushing Brunette" - but it's no longer available. Summer Sunset has the teeniest bit of shimmer (it's just barely detectable on the lipstick itself, but I can't see it on the lips), and has such a pretty soft red look on the lips. This would be a great option for people who want to try a red that isn't as "in your face" as most classic red lipsticks. I love it! On an unrelated note- I'm developing an obsession with matte lip colors as well. Look for a video on that in the near future! :)

Daily Nuggets!
  • I need to get groceries.
  • We have 2 new gliders in this house and Cupcake is usually in one of them during the morning, and the other at night.
  • Bobbi Brown's "Beach" scent continues to grow on me.
  • I saw this clip on Morning Express with Robin Meade today- CRACKED ME UP!!! And when the bulldog flops over- it kinda reminds me of myself trying to get out of bed.
  • Today marks 36 weeks pregnant!

Bath & Body Works Home Stuff Haul

Hi everyone!
This past weekend involved more nursery prep! More on that in an upcoming vlog, but as we were out & about picking up some of the last baby-related items, Tyler and I stopped in to Bath & Body Works for a few things. It's becoming the most irresistible time of year for me where their home scents are concerned... I LOVE the fall stuff! And according to one of the nice ladies who works there, more pumpkin-ish scents are expected in the coming weeks! It seems like fall should be way off in the distance, but when it comes to fall scents, I don't waste any time :)
I was tempted to go nuts on the candles, but reminded myself of the insane amount of candles I had to pack up when we moved recently, and opted for just a couple of the smaller mason jar candles. Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding is the STAR scent, in my opinion. If you love the sweet/warm/cozy smell of banana bread, you will love this scent! I asked Tyler which of the other scents he liked, and he chose Blackberry Bramble Tea (don't tell anyone, but I think he enjoys Bath & Body Works more than he wants to let on). It's a really yummy sweet berry scent- a great choice! I honestly don't know what the heck "bramble tea" is, but I like the concept. Speaking of Tyler, he also picked up his much-loved strawberry hand sanitizer for the office. Click here to see his review/hand sanitizer thief story!
I have six spots where I use Wallflowers in the new house! Conveniently, there's a special deal if you buy six, so that's nice. If you're not familiar with Wallflowers, basically you twist these pods of scented oil into the Wallflower plugs that go straight into your outlets. Some of mine have cute night lights on them! They heat up the scents and then you have a fabulous-smelling house. Some scents end up being stronger than others, and I think it also depends on the size of the room you place them in. Anyway, all of the scents I picked up were in a special fall Wallflower display, although not every scent is brand new for this season. I got two of the Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding... I LOVE IT. I also got Vanilla Chai, Autumn Mums, Farmstand Apple, and Mahogany Teakwood. All of these scents are new to me, except Mahogany Teakwood. I loved this scent last season... makes me think of a dude's cologne. As for the others-- I'll have to test them in the outlets to see how strong the scents come through.

Have you explored the new fall Bath & Body Works scents lately? Any early favorites?

Daily Nuggets...
  • Not sure how many of you saw last week's Beauty Broadcast Live, but I had explained that my dad had gone in for a procedure to get rid of his prostate cancer earlier that week. Now it's been exactly one week since that happened, and he had a follow-up with the doc today. Of course he'll continue to be monitored periodically for some time, but as of now, the doctor says he's very pleased with how the whole procedure went & how he's progressing! What a blessing. Sounds like it won't be long before he's back on the golf course :) Dad was in a good place at the time of the treatment-- the cancer was caught very early and had not spread. Prostate cancer is also known to be extremely common, but fortunately very treatable among men his age. Still, as I said on BBLive, Dad has a long life still ahead of him and nipping this problem in the bud was the best course of action. So many of you have messaged/tweeted/commented such kind and supportive things to me over the past week, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate that. My family is very thankful for your prayers!
  • What kind of daily nugget can possibly follow the first one?!
  • We went to our final baby-related class last night. It was part 2 of "Life with Baby" and we got some great info on how to install infant car seats. We also learned infant CPR and how to respond to a choking baby. Of course we hope to never be in situations where those skills are required, but it's best to be prepared!
  • It's a 2-video day... there will be a Beauty Broadcast Express review and a tutorial on my main channel! I'm so, so excited about how the tutorial turned out! It's a very coordinated face/eyes/lips thing.
  • Blast from the past craving I've had recently... chocolate Teddy Grahams!
  • I did so much cleaning on Sunday... I believe that's what they call "nesting". I'm eager for the nesting instinct to kick in when it comes to unloading the dishwasher.

My Favorite Sunscreens!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to do a quick post to answer a question I got today on Beauty Broadcast Live. Several people were asking about favorite sunscreens, including one for the face that wasn't too sticky or heavy.  I said- I have a product that totally qualifies! I've been swimming a lot lately, and before hopping in, I take off all the day's makeup and makeup sure I'm covered in sunscreen. Here's what I use!

  • Neutrogena Clear Face Break-Out Free Liquid-Lotion (SPF 30) - I love that this is a face-specific sunscreen that's oil-free. It's very light and blends into the skin quickly- it's not at all sticky on the skin. It's also water-resistant for 80 minutes. I haven't noticed any breakouts or skin issues since I've been using this, so I'd say it's living up to its "Clear Face" name. Oh, and most importantly, I haven't gotten a sunburn since I've been using this, and I've been swimming a lot!
  • Coppertone Clearly Sheer for Beach & Pool (SPF 50) - This is probably the most light-weight sunscreen I've ever used. It's a spray, so it's very quick to apply. But don't get cocky like I did at first and try to apply it TOO quickly. You know how it is... you're feeling all cool with your spray-on sunscreen, but then you miss large patches of skin and end up burning. Take your time and take a couple passes over your arms, for example, and it DOES seem to provide the protection I need. Like the Neutrogena, this claims to be water resistant for 80 minutes. It claims to have a "light, clean scent" - and I'd agree with that. I particularly like the spray-on style when it comes to re-applying it. Even when I'm being careful and making a point to get everywhere, I can apply this in much less time than it would take to rub a lotion all over my body.
What are your must-have sunscreens? I'd love to hear about them! :)

Daily Nuggets...
  • I'm wearing a bright coral shirt with parrots on the front.
  • I just posted a review on a travel hot roller set. Spoiler alert- it's awesome.
  • This week has FLOWN by.
  • Breastfeeding class last night was fun & very informative. I feel much less intimidated by the process. Until I saw the handout that shows what a breastfed baby's poo will look like...

#Electric Challenge Day 5: Purple Haze

Happy Friday!
It's the 5th and final day of the Electric Challenge! Thank you SO MUCH for the nice feedback on the looks I've done throughout the week, and there are now more than 100 #ElectricChallenge pictures on Instagram- how cool! The idea of this challenge is to use the Urban Decay Electric Palette every day for a week, and you have to make sure you work in all of the different shades by the time the 5 days are up! Click here to see all of my Electric Challenge blogs from this week. It's been so much fun to get up each day and map out my eye looks, and I've really enjoyed seeing how these intense shades can transform so easily when you blend them or incorporate other eyeshadows entirely. I think the purple in this palette is one of my favorite shades, so I made that the primary focus of this look, with a blue pop! I think it's a great way to make brown eyes glow!
Today's Electric Palette shades are Chaos and Urban.
Urban is a stunning metallic purple that takes on different tones depending on whether you apply it very concentrated or sheer. Chaos is an intense royal blue with a satin finish- but in application, it seems pretty matte. In addition to these colors, I worked in some classic neutrals from my Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. That's a very handy thing to use alongside Electric!
  1. For my base, I applied a matte white cream shadow stick from Jordana all over the lid and around the inner corner. I dabbed over it with my finger to remove any excess product.
  2. Next I added a few neutrals- from the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette, I used Venus (shimmery white) on the lid, Faint (cool matte brown) in the crease, and W.O.S. as my creamy highlight under the brow.
  3. I patted Urban on the lid, starting at the outer part and working inward halfway. I went more intense on the outside, and then used a lighter touch so the purple would start to fade into the white. I also blended Urban on the outer part of the crease and just above it. So we end up experiencing 3 tones from just one shade... intense purple (outer corner), lilac (center of lid), and a pinkish purple tone as the color fades up.
  4. Then I lined my upper lashline with black liquid liner (FYI- I'm using black liquid a lot with these looks because it sets to a matte finish & gives me the intense definition I want with these bright colors!), and I used a blue liner from NYX on my lower waterline.
  5. With an angled liner brush, I applied Chaos along my lower lashline- it's a great match for the blue eyeliner... just get it wedged right in there between all the lashes. Then I used a smudge brush to do a double line with Urban- underneath the blue.
  6. I finished the look with mascara on my upper and lower lashes, along with a strip of falsies on the upper lashline.

 I'm also wearing...
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Face & Body in Creamy Tan
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Warm Light Medium
  • Wet n Wild Color Icon single eyeshadow in Brulee (set undereye concealer)
  • Makeup Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder in Neutral Sand
  • Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer (contour)
  • Coastal Scents Forever Blush in Sweet
  • Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki (highlight)

  • Jordana 12 Hr Made to Last Shadow Stick in Eternal White (base on lid)
  • Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (Venus, Faint, and W.O.S. as noted above)
  • Urban Decay Electric Palette
  • Jordana Color Envy Liquid Eyeliner in Black Envy (upper lashline)
  • NYX Slide On Eyeliner in Sunrise Blue (lower waterline)
  • Rimmel ScandalEyes Rockin' Curves Mascara (upper & lower lashes)
  • Too Faced Brow Envy Kit
  • Red Cherry #415 False Eyelashes

  • Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner in Perfect Spice
  • Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Naked Dolly (how cute is this sample size?!)

Thanks again for checking out this post! I really believe that a 5-day challenge is a great way to push your creativity and get out of a makeup rut! :) Whether it's something you're a little scared to use or just a palette that's not getting much use in your collection... deciding that you'll make use of it for 5 straight days really causes you to dig a little deeper for new ideas as opposed to just using the same shades over & over (I'm guilty of that!) Something I realized about the Electric Palette is that it's a great companion to the many basic neutrals I own. I've learned to look at these bright shades not as a palette that I have to be confined to... but rather as individually great shades that can be nice accents to a more muted look. If I can get all my editing done in time, I'll have an Electric Palette review posted on my main channel tomorrow! :)
